She finally finds the courage to confess her love, carrying a letter meant to reach him before the darkness did. But when she arrives at his apartment, she discovers he has taken his own life. Now she clutches the unread letter like a ghost, tormented by the thought that her words might have been the one thing that could have kept him here.
