The corpse continent series book 1: The boy named Dragon

After surviving an up close encounter with an leviathan the arcane gang they returned and gained the power over water and planned to use it to restore the shared land of the Anansi and Chiron by placing water runes in certain spots where they can create a a massive bubble around the land and infront of Anansi craftsmen and children they showed them how runes are made so they can recreate them when the initially runes die out like always First they needed the elemental ink after getting that they mixed it with a special solution that when left alone for about an hour it hardens and crystalizes and once cracks form you know it's complete and once the first water rune was ready they tested it out and once these runes were submerged in water they created an attracting force that pulled the water towards it causing the water to spin in a vortex and when two runes are close to each other a space was made within the vortex they just needed to place large enough in the right spot to create the wall of water To find the right spots Dragon gave himself gill tattoos around his neck and the side of his ribs and when he jumped in the water the magic of his tattoos allowed his lungs to extract the air from water and breathe underwater and the first person he went to show was Hela who walking in the shallow side when she felt a hand grab her ankle and when she looked she saw Dragon completely submerged in water looking like he wasn't even trying hold his breath which peaked her interested and dived into deeper part of water and saw that Dragon had given himself new tattoos that seemed to be granting him the ability to breathe underwater After their little swim Dragon tattooed her and the others with gill tattoos allowing all of them to breathe underwater and search for the perfect position to place their water runes and while they did that the Anansi craftsmen got to work on the largest water runes they could make for after some time they had plotted out the places to set the water runes and with that done they headed back to see if the Anansi had made enough runes for what they were planning When they got back they found the craftsmen Anansi resting after making about fifty giant water runes and now with the runes and the blueprints on where to place them they had everything they need and didn't waste a second on getting to work being the only ones that can breathe underwater Dragon, Hela and the others took the runes and swam them out to where they needed to be and once they got them their the runes worked their magic the water parted from the shore and what was submerged was now back as it was and the Anansi and Chiron were ready to celebrate in other words it was time to party After hundreds of years separated the races of Anansi and Chiron were finally able to meet again, their reunion took place in the ruins of the very city they both once called home and at first neither side knew what to do but than the elders of both people approached each other and greeted each other in the manner their grandparents showed them while telling stories of their past and soon the younger ones followed soon after and quickly everyone forgot how to be awkward and began acting like they've been friends for years that had only been apart for few days The Chiron children were running around with their new Anansi friends on their backs while the adults were comparing and trading crafting advice and their elders/leaders were looking over the festivities and discussing how they would repair this city and restore it to former glory and as for the arcane gang everyone's attention was on them for they were the heroes of the hour they restored the city and they enjoyed the celebration they ate they drank they danced and when night fell everyone went to sleep When Dragon and Hela woke up they found the elders having a discussion about how to make their repairs to their city and decided to join in on the conversation and when they did this is how the conversation went Anansi elder: I'm surprised you two are up this early we'd had expected you two to share a bed for a little longer Dragon: We got hungry, we were looking for food and that's when we found guys Hela: And judging from what we overheard we can help you with your restoration plans Chiron elder: You've help so much we have no way we can we repay you for what you already done how can we repay for helping us rebuild? Dragon: We don't expect or desire payment at all we just do whatever we wish and we wish to help you Anansi elder: Your kindness will never be forgotten by both our races Chiron elder: That's for certain After this conversation they shared what they were planning they wish to build a new roads that takes you closer to where they placed the water runes both for scenery and to see get a clear view of the glow from the runes to alert them that they needed to be replaced soon when they see the glow begins to dim which Dragon offered to help build it while they also planned to build boats just in case of a failure to replace the runes in time Aaron could easily help with that and Hela decided to train some Anansi and Chiron how to replace the runes and even helped them create special armor infused with runes to help anyone who wears them not die from drowning and as for Tiamat and the others would help in the repair and restoration of the buildings and taking the first step to returning their home
