Phase 4:Sparks. Chapter 1

Settings
Sofia walked down the street, enjoying the cool evening air. Everything was calm, and for a brief moment, she almost forgot about the constant tension that followed her life. She was on her way back to her mansion, thinking about the new matters she had to deal with. But suddenly, without warning, two men emerged from the shadows. One of them grabbed her arm roughly, while the other struck her on the back of the head so hard that she didn’t even have time to react. The world went dark, everything blurred, and she collapsed into unconsciousness. When Sofia came to her senses, her head was pounding, and it felt as if barbed wire had been wrapped around her skull. She was lying on a cold concrete floor, tied up. Darkness surrounded her, with only a dim light seeping through a small window above, barely illuminating the room. “Who are you?” she asked, trying to gather her strength. The men nearby chuckled. “I’m Ricardo,” one of them said, stepping closer, “and this is Mateo. We’re from the Crown of Fury.” Sofia couldn’t believe what she was hearing. They were from Alicia’s gang? That explained a lot—but why had they kidnapped her? “Are you out of your minds?” she said boldly. “Do you really think you can break me?” Ricardo only laughed and nodded toward Mateo. “Don’t worry, we’re not going to torture you. You’re just here to have a little chat with Alicia. She wants to speak with you, Reyland.” Sofia swallowed her anger, refusing to let them see her fear. They would have to do much more to truly frighten her. For now, she needed to think — fast. Mateo turned toward the door. “Don’t worry,” he muttered. “She doesn’t look that dangerous, does she?” Hearing that, Sofia knew their arrogance would be their downfall. The moment Mateo turned his back, she kicked his legs out from under him, sending him crashing to the floor. Her heart raced, but she had no time to hesitate. She pushed herself up, ignoring the pain from her bound hands. Hiding in the dark corners of the basement, Sofia could hear Ricardo and Mateo moving around, searching for her. “Where is she?” Ricardo shouted angrily. “She’s just a girl,” Mateo replied, scanning the shadows impatiently. “She won’t be hard to catch.” “That girl just kicked your ass,” Ricardo snapped. “So start taking this seriously!” They kept searching, but Sofia remained silent and hidden. After several tense minutes, when it seemed they’d given up, she decided to act. Taking a deep breath, she glanced up at the small window—it was her only way out. --- Sofia examined the narrow window. It was barely wide enough for her shoulders, but she knew it was her only chance. Gathering all her strength, she climbed up, squeezing through the gap. Within moments, she was outside, breathing the cold night air. She looked around—no one had seen her. Without wasting time, she ran through the deserted streets, her footsteps echoing softly. She didn’t know how long she had before Ricardo and Mateo realized she was gone. Her heart pounded with fear and adrenaline. She darted through dark alleys, moving farther and farther from where she’d been held. After several turns, she finally recognized the familiar outline of Javier’s mansion gates. Relief flooded her chest. She pushed herself harder, though exhaustion was setting in fast. Each step brought her closer to safety—and hope. Breathless, Sofia reached the large wooden doors. Her hands were still tied, her body trembling. She kicked the door weakly, almost collapsing from exhaustion. A few seconds later, the door swung open, and Javier appeared. “Sofia!” he exclaimed, rushing toward her. He caught her before she fell. “What happened? Are you all right?” She tried to speak through shaky breaths. “They kidnapped me... Ricardo and Mateo, from Alicia’s gang... I escaped, but they’re still looking for me...” Without another word, Javier wrapped an arm around her and guided her inside. He didn’t ask more questions—he knew she needed calm, not interrogation. He sat her down in the living room and carefully untied her wrists. When the ropes finally fell away, Sofia sighed in relief. Her muscles loosened slightly as she looked up at him. “Thank you... I was so scared...” she whispered. Javier rested a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “You’re safe now, Sofia. I promise,” he said softly but firmly. Her trembling slowly subsided. For the first time since the attack, she felt safe. But deep inside, she knew something had changed forever. Seeing her still shaking, Javier quietly went to the kitchen and returned with a cup of hot tea. He placed it on the table beside her and sat down. “Here, drink this. It’ll help,” he said gently. Sofia nodded, though her hands still trembled as she lifted the cup. Javier noticed—and without saying anything, he wrapped an arm around her shoulders, drawing her closer. She rested her head on his shoulder, letting herself breathe again. They stayed like that for a while, in silence. “Thank you, Javier... for everything,” she whispered finally. Her voice was weak, filled with both gratitude and pain. “You don’t need to thank me,” he said quietly, his hand resting on her back. “I’ll always be here when you need me.” For a long time, they sat together in silence—a silence that held understanding and comfort more powerful than words. --- Sofia remained in his arms, her breathing finally evening out. Javier’s gentle touch on her back gave her a feeling of safety she hadn’t felt in a long time. Somehow, being next to him made the world feel less cruel. “I can’t let you leave like this,” Javier said softly. “You need to rest.” Sofia lifted her head, meeting his gaze. His eyes were calm, full of resolve. She nodded weakly. “Can I stay here for a while?” she asked quietly. Javier paused for a moment, then said, “Stay as long as you need. You’ll always be safe in this house.” It wasn’t just a polite promise—it was genuine, protective. He already felt something deeper awakening inside him, something more than partnership. Sofia gave him a small, tired smile. “Thank you… You’re amazing, Javier.” He shook his head slightly, as if to say it was nothing. They sat together in silence, surrounded by peace that slowly began to mend her spirit. After a while, she turned to him and whispered, “You’re a true friend… you’ve done more for me than I could ever ask for.” Javier looked at her, his expression tender but serious. “Maybe. But it’s not enough, Sofia. You deserve more—and I’m ready to give it.” Sofia wasn’t sure she fully understood what he meant, but she didn’t need to. She simply felt it—the quiet spark between them growing stronger. Their paths were now intertwined more tightly than ever before.
