Phase 4: Sparks. Chapter 2

After the kidnapping and that terrible attack, Sofia had changed. She was no longer the energetic and confident woman she had been just a few weeks earlier. A deep sense of fear and vulnerability had settled in her heart, and even the strong will that had always helped her lead the Order of Lightning began to weaken.
Sofia became withdrawn, often sitting in her office, lost in thought, making important decisions in silence.
That day, Luca came to see her.
“Sofia, we need to talk,” Luca began as he entered her office.
Sitting behind her desk, Sofia looked up, but her eyes lacked their usual determination. She simply nodded, inviting him to speak.
“The clan is getting worried,” Luca said carefully, choosing his words. “Some are starting to question your leadership. You’ve been spending too much time alone, and we need a strong, decisive leader.”
Sofia didn’t answer right away. She just stared at him, her gaze distant, as if she were far away from the conversation.
“I understand,” she finally said, her voice soft, tinged with bitterness. “It’s just… hard to be the person I used to be.”
Luca sat down across from her, watching her with quiet understanding.
“That’s understandable,” he said gently. “But we have to move forward, Sofia. You’re not alone. We all stand with you, and together we can face anything. But leadership isn’t only about decisions — people need to trust you. They need to see your strength, your resolve. Otherwise… they’ll start to doubt.”
Sofia remained silent, thinking over his words. Then she looked at him and spoke again.
“I know. But what if even I have doubts sometimes? What if I’m afraid I can’t protect everyone?”
Luca walked closer and placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder.
“That’s normal,” he said. “No one is free from doubt. What matters is how we fight it. You have strength inside you, Sofia. You’ve already been through so much, and your people believe in you. Don’t forget that.”
Sofia met his eyes, and a faint, but genuine smile appeared on her lips.
“Thank you, Luca. You’re right. I need to pull myself together.”
Luca stood and headed for the door.
“And don’t forget — we’re with you,” he said before leaving. “You’re not alone, Sofia.”
When Luca left, Sofia remained alone with her thoughts. She couldn’t deny that his words had touched her heart. She knew she had to change — she couldn’t let her fears win. She was a donna, and her clan expected strength.
But what if she failed?
Sofia rose from her chair and walked to the window. Her gaze swept across the night city — once so familiar, but now strange and threatening.
---
Sofia stood before the members of the Order of Lightning. Her expression was calm, though her eyes still carried a trace of unease. She waited for everyone to gather, and when the doors closed behind the last guard, she finally spoke.
“I know there have been doubts about my leadership lately. And if any of you believe I’m not fit to lead the Order, I’m ready to step down,” her voice was steady but weary. “If you think you need new leadership, I won’t stand in your way. The choice is yours.”
Silence filled the room, heavy and suffocating. Every glance, every movement was tense. But then, from the back, a familiar voice spoke up.
“Sofia, we’re all here with you,” said Maximilian firmly as he stepped forward. “If anyone has doubts or complaints, let them speak now. You’re not alone in this.”
Luca stood beside him, his gaze sharp and unwavering.
“You remain the donna of the Order, Sofia,” he said. “And those who can’t follow your lead are free to leave — just like Lorenzo Riccardi.”
Tyler and Marianna, two of Sofia’s most trusted allies, moved closer. Tyler spoke first, calm but firm:
“This isn’t about strength, it’s about trust. And we’re here because we trust you.”
Marianna, who rarely spoke openly, added quietly but confidently:
“You’ve led us through worse. We’re staying with you. Anyone who doesn’t like it can walk out.”
Elena, standing in the shadows, simply nodded in agreement.
The room fell silent again. Those who had doubts felt their courage slipping away, and one by one they realized — the Order would not fall apart over a few whispers.
At that moment, Sofia felt peace return to her heart. She looked at her allies, realizing how much this unity meant.
“Thank you,” she said softly, her voice filled with genuine gratitude. “That means a lot to me.”
Everyone nodded, and it was clear — now more than ever, their unity was real.
Maximilian glanced around the room before speaking again.
“If anyone still questions Sofia’s leadership, they can leave the Order right now. There’s no place here for weakness or doubt.”
“I agree,” added Luca, his tone resolute. “We move forward together — because strength lies in unity.”
Those who remained understood: this was their last chance to challenge her, and none of them dared.
Sofia took a deep breath, realizing that her people still stood beside her — and that she was ready to protect them, no matter what lay ahead.
---
Later that night, Luca quietly approached Javier’s mansion. His figure was barely visible in the darkness, but he knew exactly where he was going. His goal was clear — to speak with Javier.
In the living room, Javier was sitting on the couch, reading through some papers. He immediately noticed Luca as he entered.
“Luca,” Javier said, setting the documents aside. “Did something happen?”
Luca wasted no time. He sat down opposite Javier, his face serious and tired.
“It’s Sofia,” he began. “She’s not herself lately. I’m worried about her.”
Javier leaned forward, listening carefully. His instincts told him there was more behind Luca’s words.
“What do you mean?” Javier asked.
“She’s changed,” Luca said quietly. “She’s not the strong, stubborn woman we knew. I can see how she’s breaking inside. And now she says she’s ready to step down as donna. This isn’t just doubt — it’s something deeper.”
Javier was silent for a few seconds, thinking. He couldn’t allow Sofia to lose her confidence — it would endanger not only her, but the entire organization.
“You want me to talk to her,” Javier said, raising an eyebrow.
“Yes,” Luca nodded. “You’re one of the few she truly trusts. Maybe your words will help her see that she can’t give up now. If she does, everything we’ve built could fall apart.”
Javier studied him thoughtfully. He knew it wouldn’t be easy, but it had to be done.
“All right,” Javier said, standing up. “I’ll talk to her. But you know as well as I do — not everything can be fixed with words.”
Luca nodded, hopeful yet worried.
“Thank you, Javier. This means a lot to all of us.”
Javier gave a small nod in return. His expression remained serious, his mind already focused on the challenge ahead. He knew that if he didn’t help Sofia now, it might soon be too late — for her, and for the Order.
