Chapter 21

Settings
Neil was in his office, trying to call Laura. He had left her numerous messages on her phone, but she hadn't answered any of them. She hadn't answered his calls for days, and he hadn't been able to reach her. His worry only grew as he began to wonder if something had happened to her. Neil lit a cigarette and sighed, "Where the fuck is she..." Desperate for answers, Neil turned on the news on his laptop and heard a report of devastating events in the city. Monsters were attacking, and the wall protecting the city was being blown up from multiple sides. Black smoke was rising from the end of the city, making it hard to see the streets or the people who lived there. A cult was being blamed for everything. The city was in chaos and panic.Neil leaned back in his chair and looked out the window, trying to make sense of it all. He was grateful to be safe in his office, but he couldn't help but worry about Laura. Neil tried calling her again. There was no answer. Suddenly, he received a call back and quickly picked it up, hoping to hear his sister's voice on the other end of the line. But instead, a male voice answered. "Your sister will never come back to you," the stranger laughed smugly. "Can you please not call again? It's so annoying..." Neil was filled with rage. His hands clenched into fists, his teeth ground, a low growl escaped from his throat. Never in his life had he been so angry. "Where is she?!" "Why are you shouting?... You'll find out everything in the city center!" "Are you kidding me?!" The stranger hung up and Neil slammed his fist on the table. "Bastard!" Neil called his agents, shouting orders with urgency and venom. He instructed them to mobilize to pursue the suspicious stranger, directing them to the city center. A little later, Neil walked out of his office, leaving an ashtray with a burning cigarette on the table.
