a story from the sparrow's perspective.
One spring morning I hatched from an egg. I couldn’t see anything around, since I was still completely blind. But I could feel the world around me. I felt warmth, feathers that stuck to me, a light breeze, a soft nest, I heard the rustling of leaves, the squeak of other chicks. Stop! Who is this? my brothers and sisters? Did they hatch, just like me? Then I got very hungry and started squeaking. I opened my beak and asked for food. Someone put small insects in my beak. I ate them with pleasure. Then I felt someone carefully cover me with their body. I calmed down and fell asleep in the warmth. In my dream, I felt other chicks swarming around me. But it didn't bother me at all.
Days passed. We began to see what was happening around us. I saw how our parents took turns flying out to get food and flying back again. They continued to feed us. Gradually we got stronger. We grew feathers. I could already cautiously look out of the nest. Saw other birds, insects, ants, snails and many living creatures. The time came when our parents began to teach us to fly.
Several weeks have passed. I was already very good at flying. He flew from branch to branch and back. Our parents told us about the city, about cats and dogs, that when you see them you have to immediately fly away quickly, otherwise they will be caught. Also fly away from birds of prey. They also talked about people who walked the earth. According to the parents, some people were good and kind. In winter they took care of the birds. I learned and remembered a lot of interesting things. Then our parents taught us to catch different insects. Later we grew up and our parents left us. I understood this and was a little sad. My sisters and brothers and I began to adapt to living alone without our parents. We got used to living without them.
When I was already a little adult, one day I flew to explore the surrounding area. Sitting down on the maple tree, I began to clean my feathers. Then I saw a green caterpillar. She slowly crawled towards the leaf. And just when she was about to bite off a piece of the leaf, I instantly flew up to her and swallowed her. The leaf thanked me. Then he asked me to tell him and the flower about the big world. I agreed and began to tell them about trees, flowers, birds, insects, animals and most importantly about people. I saw them listening very carefully. When I finished telling the story, I started preening my feathers again. Then the leaf invited me to be friends. I happily agreed. Asking him for his name, he said his name was Willie. I answered:
"You have a beautiful name".
He thanked me and asked what the people looked like. I was a little scared, but didn’t show it and said:
“People are dangerous creatures that destroy nature. Time will pass and you will see them.”
I told the leaf a lot more. Later I saw my relatives who flew past me. I cheerfully said to the leaf:
“I will fly here every day and tell you interesting stories.”
Chirping loudly, I flew after my brothers and sisters. We flew from place to place and met other birds. I flew to Willie every day. And I didn’t want the leaf to be sad and lonely. I flew to see him for a few hours. We talked peacefully on various topics. The rest of the time I was with my relatives. We argued almost endlessly, then quarreled among ourselves, or fought over insects and grains. also every day I flew into the city for a while. Since I was born in the city, in a park, I was used to living there. I really liked this wonderful city.
One afternoon I was sitting in the park on the green grass. Then I saw that an old woman was sitting on a bench nearby. She had a large loaf of bread in her hands. Her bag lay on the bench next to her. There was something there. The old woman began to crumble bread to one pigeon, who looked at her with great curiosity. He immediately began to greedily peck at the bread crumbs. I instantly found myself next to him and also pecked at the crumbs. Then other pigeons and sparrows began to fly. We took pieces of bread from the pigeons and ate them ourselves.
Suddenly a large black dog ran straight towards us, barking. We got scared and scattered in different directions. Since I was already very full of crumbs, I became thirsty. Flying up to a small fountain, I drank some water. Then I began to think about what I should do next.
Later I decided to find out what other sparrows and doves were saying. That's exactly what I did. flying from place to place, I learned a lot of interesting things from them. Every day I listened to them talk about different topics.
Spring has passed. Summer has come. It became very hot. The sun was very hot. Everyone was very thirsty. I visited many different interesting places. I wasn't bored at all.
One day I flew far away to the city. I have already begun to encounter places and different living creatures that are unfamiliar to me. Having flown into one strange large courtyard, I looked around in surprise. Several children were playing there. They threw the ball to each other. I quietly sat on the balcony and began to watch them. Then one little girl noticed me. She called her friends and everyone started catching me. I got very scared and started chirping loudly and tried to fly up, but it didn’t work. The children made so much noise that a woman came out of the house. She saw that the children had caught me and became very angry with them. She scolded them and told them to let me go. The children reluctantly released me. I was glad to be free and quickly flew away from there.
Summer passed slowly. My relatives and I had as much fun as we could all summer. Later I saw that all the flowers on the trees began to fade. Then I realized that cold autumn would soon come. I was a little upset. But I knew that there would be spring and summer again. I saw how the birds began to prepare for autumn. It was no longer as hot as before. I saw how all the animals were preparing for the cold. They collected a lot of food for themselves.
And then autumn came. A cold wind began to blow. Almost all the birds flew to warmer regions. Only crows, pigeons, sparrows and magpies remained in parks and cities. We made nests for ourselves in hollows, attics and other places. We saw how people made special houses for us. They hung them on trees and near windows. We also made feeders. People there crumbled bread and rolls for us every day.
I still flew to the leaf. I saw that he became very sad. I encouraged him. There are already a few leaves left on the maple tree. The rest were carried away by the wind. They all turned very yellow and dry. By mid-autumn everything became very sluggish. The wind became too icy and unpleasant. It rained for a long time every day. There were small and large puddles everywhere. The earth did not dry out and a lot of dirt formed. We were very cold. We kept asking people for food and they gave it to us.
One afternoon I flew to the leaf again. But, with horror, I saw that he was no longer there. I felt very sad. After all, I didn’t even have time to say goodbye to him. I said:
" I will never forget you"
And flew back to the city. Only rarely flew to the maple tree. I remembered all the wonderful moments. I continued to live.
