Journey of a leaf.
And then our leaf politely asked the wind to take it on a long journey. He agreed. The leaf flew high, sometimes falling to the ground. There he saw a bunch of unfamiliar leaves. I saw that some were still green, but many had already become yellow and dry. The grass also turned very yellow, and in many places there was no color at all. The earth turned black from moisture and dampness.
Not far from the place where our leaf lay there was a large swamp. Toads and frogs lived there. They croaked loudly. Willie didn't like their croaking. He remained politely silent. After some time, a small frog jumped up to him. Since I was very curious, I asked:
" Who are you? You are lost?"
He replied:
“I'm Willy and I travel the world.”
Suddenly the frog saw the worm and instantly ate it. Then he offered a leaf of friendship. He agreed. The little frog began to tell Willie about life in the swamp. He spoke very interestingly. The leaf listened to him. Then there was a commotion in the swamp. The little frog quickly ran off to find out what happened there. He was horrified to see a striped snake crawling along the shore. The little frog, like his relatives, immediately hid in the water and everyone fell silent. There was silence. Meanwhile, the leaf watched what was happening. Then he saw that the snake was unable to catch anyone and, hungry, crawled away for other prey.
Then a strong wind rose again and carried the leaf far away. The latter looked sadly at the frog’s new friend. He jumped after him and cried pitifully:
“Come back! We just became friends! And you leave immediately!”
He tried to catch the leaf, but it flew too high. Then the little frog became very sad. he returned to his swamp.
At that moment, a leaf flew over a large field. Many people stood there and worked, but the leaf did not understand this. Then he flew over the road. Willie saw cars driving along it. He remembered that conversation with the sparrow. He mentioned big iron monsters that emitted bad odors. Leaf recognized them as machines. They were of different colors and sizes. Suddenly the wind stopped blowing for a while. Willie fell right in the middle of the road. He lay and looked at the sky. Dark and stormy clouds were visible. Thunder was heard somewhere, then lightning flashed. A light rain began to fall. The leaf was happy because dust and dirt were smeared on it. He immediately began to wash himself. I washed off all the dirt and was already very clean. Suddenly a car appeared from afar. She was getting closer. The leaf got scared and began to think what to do. But when the car quickly drove past the leaf, a strong gust of wind threw the leaf to the side. The car passed by without hitting Willie and disappeared around the bend.
Meanwhile, the leaf again rose high into the air with the help of the wind. He flew over the forest and saw various birds and animals that flashed on the ground and in the air. Later, Willie fell in the forest on damp ground. It was dark and cold there. He looked around. Suddenly he noticed a worm crawling on another leaf. Willie greeted him. At first, the worm curled up into a ball out of fright. Willie apologized for scaring him. He asked the worm to tell about his life. He agreed.
“I belong to the earthworm species. I live deep in the earth. There we hide from enemies. We eat nutrients and the smallest insects. At night, when it rains, we crawl out of our holes and look for food. When the enemy appears, we either hide or disguise ourselves.”
The worm wanted to say something else, but suddenly a cuckoo landed on the ground. The worm immediately curled up into a ball and stopped moving. The bird, of course, saw him. But I thought that he was sleeping, so I didn’t touch him. But she started looking for other insects. She began to sort through dry leaves, twigs and straw with her paw. Seeing a bunch of small bugs, the bird instantly swallowed them and flew away about its business. The worm lay motionless for a while, then he felt hungry. He said goodbye to our leaf and slowly crawled away.
At this time, as always, a strong wind blew and Willie flew away. He did not fly for long and fell into a stream that flowed downwards. Having fallen there, the water immediately carried the leaf in an unknown direction. He was not at all afraid and began to look around. I saw a deer calmly crossing the stream. His horns were very branched, beautiful and large. There were white patterns and spots on his fur. then the deer became very thirsty. He stopped and began to drink water from the stream. Suddenly a black panther jumped out of the large bushes. She rushed towards him. The deer immediately took off running. He ran fast. The panther got tired and stopped, and the deer quickly disappeared from sight. The leaf saw all this. He was afraid for the deer, but everything ended well. Then the water threw Willie on the shore. He lay on the sand on his side and continued to watch everyone. Many beautiful flowers grew not far from the stream. The leaf looked at them with delight. A large striped butterfly sat on a flower and drank nectar. Then she flapped her wings and flew through the air. She met another butterfly, which was yellow. They said hello and went their separate ways. Small hummingbirds appeared and also wanted to drink nectar. They quickly flapped their wings. And so they hung in the air and at the same time drank nectar. Then they disappeared from sight. Various midges and bees flashed by. The fish swam up to the leaf and carefully touched it with their fins and swam away. So they played with him. Others blew bubbles from their mouths. They rose to the surface of the water and burst.
Evening came. The wind stopped blowing and he calmed down. Willie was still lying on the sand. The water flowed past him and he moved easily, but did not swim away. A whole family of wild boars came to the stream. Little piglets ran funny behind them and grunted. They pushed, tumbled, ran to the side, and also ran around their parents. Their tails were twitching. Then they all began to cool with cold water. One little pig threw our leaf into the air several times. Then he got very tired of playing with it and the leaf itself fell to the shore again. Later this family went back to the forest. Various animals came to the stream and drank water and left. At night all kinds of living creatures flew and hunted.
Suddenly, in the middle of the night, a leaf saw a little bear cub who came up and sat down near the stream. He was very thoughtful and sad. Willie asked him:
“What happened, bear? Who hurt you? You are lost?"
he replied:
" Yes. I wandered far from my mother and I got lost.”
“Don’t be sad and don’t worry, bear. Your mother will always be there. You just have to find it by smell.”
The little bear stopped being sad. He stood on his hind legs and sniffed. The wind was blowing. Then the bear exclaimed joyfully:
“I smelled my mom! She is very far from here! But I can find her!”
And the little bear happily jumped on the spot. He thanked the leaf and quickly ran along the scent. Willie continued to lie on the bank of the stream. Later he fell asleep.
He dreamed of his own friends. It was as if the leaf had arms and legs. He ran, jumped and had fun with his friends.
In the morning our leaf woke up. Very small waves from the stream gently and carefully washed him. Willie remembered yesterday's incident with the bear cub. He began to think:
“Did the bear find its mother or not?”
Then he remembered that the bear smelled his mother and ran to her. The leaf calmed down. By noon, the sun appeared for a while from behind the dark and gloomy clouds. It began to warm the damp earth. The golden rays of the sun fell on our leaf. They began to warm him up. After some time, Willie dried out from the drops that were on him.
The rays sparkled very beautifully between the leaves of the trees and bushes. The clouds disappeared again. From time to time the sun was covered. It was playing hide and seek. Then it completely disappeared from view. It began to get dark again. The leaf still lay in place and watched nature. He listened to the rustling of leaves and the quiet splash of the stream. He really liked their sounds. The leaf quietly fell asleep.
By morning he woke up. Seeing an unfamiliar squirrel sniffing an acorn near him, Willie greeted him. He looked at him with curiosity and surprise. Then the squirrel ran away. Then a strong wind blew again. The leaf continued its journey.
Flying into a wide river, he saw bears fishing. The leaf fell into the river. A strong current carried him along. Willie continued to see the world around him. Then the leaf accidentally fell into the whirlpool. It got sucked in there and the leaf went under the water. There he saw miracles. Since the river was very deep, many different algae and other aquatic plants grew at its bottom. There were stones of different sizes and colors, beautiful fish swam by. Seeing a leaf, they circled around it.
At that moment our joyful sparrow flew in. He sat down on a maple branch. He was sure that his friend the leaf would still be there. Sparrow looked at the branch on which there should have been a leaf. He realized with horror that he would never see the leaf again. His mood immediately dropped. He became very sad and hung his head. Sparrow remembered all the fun moments associated with the leaf. Then he said to himself:
“The bad thing is that we didn’t have time to say goodbye to each other. But I will never forget you, friend.”
Then the sad sparrow flew back to the city. Rarely did he fly to the maple tree. And for the rest of the time he was in the city, among his relatives. They looked for food for themselves so as not to starve.
