Chapter 13

Settings
Jay’s lips gently brushed against mine, kissing me tenderly and unhurriedly, giving me warmth and affection without demanding anything in return. I reached out to hug him and pull him closer, but… I couldn’t because of the IV needle still in my hand — something I had completely forgotten about. Wincing from the unpleasant sensation, I whispered sadly into his velvety lips: “Jay…” “What is it, sweetheart?” he murmured almost soundlessly, trailing soft kisses down my chin. “Take the IV out, please.” He froze, then pulled back and frowned, shaking his head. “That’s out of the question, Bambi.” “Why?” “There are medications for your heart in there, little one. You need them right now.” One single sentence instantly brought me crashing back down to earth, brutally reminding me of the harsh reality I was now living in. I pressed my lips together, doing my best not to cry. “You’re the only thing my heart needs, and with this thing in my hand I can’t even hug you properly,” I complained about this cosmic injustice. Unable to hold it back, I sniffled like a little child. His gaze softened. He tenderly kissed my temple and whispered with a smile: “Don’t worry, baby. If that’s the only problem, I’ll hug you, kiss you, and stroke you wherever you want.” I sighed, forced to accept this compromise, and let him embrace me. Still, I asked suspiciously: “You’re not going to leave again, are you?” Jay chuckled quietly and buried his nose in my neck. “Where would I go? You’re my main patient now, sunshine. And on VIP status, no less.” “And you’ll stay with me again… until morning?” I whispered hopefully. He leaned over me, gently stroking my cheek with feather-light touches, and breathed softly: “I already told you I’ll be with you the whole time, kitten. Don’t worry about anything.” Tears rolled down my cheeks again. I bit my lip and squeezed my eyes shut, trying to hide them from him, but he pulled me closer and whispered soothingly: “Shh… Shh, my love… please don’t cry. I can’t stand watching you cry… What can I do to make you feel better?” “Just… don’t let me go,” I breathed almost inaudibly. “I’ll never let you go.” Jay gently cupped my chin, turning my face toward him. He left a tender kiss on my lips, then lay down beside me again. He stroked the arm with the damned IV, slowly running the pads of his sensitive fingers from my shoulder all the way to my wrist, breathing quietly against my neck. I gradually calmed down and involuntarily relaxed — as I always did when he brought out the heavy artillery of his touches and the magic of his hands. For some time we simply lay there, wrapped in each other’s arms, listening to one another breathe. Then he got up and walked over to the IV stand to check how much medication was left. “Well, my darling, your suffering has finally come to an end,” he said with a tender smile. “Really?” I exhaled in relief as he carefully removed the needle from my hand, pressing a cotton pad to the spot and assuring me: “Really, my love. And by the way, you’re such a brave girl. You endured everything and barely complained at all.” I smiled, wearily closing my eyes. Jay returned and lay down beside me again, possessively pulling me under him. Smiling, he kissed my forehead and whispered: “There we go, Bambi. Now you can hug me until morning if you want. I’m right here, my sweet. So close your eyes and don’t worry about anything else. Are you happy now?” I smiled, blissfully running my fingers through his soft, dark silk-like hair, and pulled him closer. Breathing against his smiling lips, I whispered: “Not completely.” Hearing that, he raised an eyebrow in surprise, looking at me with laughing eyes. “Seriously? And what else does my capricious little fawn need for complete satisfaction?” I sighed, closed my eyes for a moment, then drowned again in the warm gold of his tender gaze and quietly repeated the phrase he himself had once said: “What about a goodnight kiss… so I don’t have nightmares?” Hearing this blatant blackmail, Jay arched his brow and smiled slyly. He leaned over me, immediately joining the game called “who will kiss the other first.” “So those twenty minutes earlier weren’t enough, and you want me to kiss you again?” Even though his voice was quiet and seductive, the gold of his enchanting eyes melted and burned, leaving me no chance of escape. I nodded and bit my lip, staring at him spellbound. He leaned down until he was almost touching my lips and whispered with a teasing smile: “How?” “Just kiss me the way you know how…” I whispered, almost breathless from the wild desire to feel his soft lips on mine again — a desire that refused any control. But of course, Jay wouldn’t be Jay if he didn’t ruin such a beautiful and unbearably sensual moment. With a cheeky, completely hooligan grin, he blurted out: “With tongue?” All the pink haze instantly vanished. I squeaked indignantly and smacked him on the chest: “Oh, screw you! Your long tongue always ruins everything!” The shameless brunette had an answer for that too. “I don’t remember you ever complaining about the length of my tongue when I was using it to pleasure you, sweetheart…” he purred hoarsely into my ear, deliberately emphasizing the last word. He leaned in, lightly catching my earlobe with his teeth, then kissed my neck. I tried to push him away, instantly flushing and hissing in outrage: “Shameless! How can you say something like that to a decent girl?!” But Jay clearly wasn’t familiar with the concept of decency. He only laughed softly and purred teasingly, wiggling his dark expressive eyebrows: “Now that’s a big question — which one of us is more indecent, Bambi.” His accusation made me practically rear up, reminding me of Bambi 1.0 — the version that constantly huffed at him and couldn’t stand him, before this charming bandit had tamed her and turned her into Bambi 2.0, who was crazy about him. “What exactly are you implying?” I demanded, glaring at him fiercely. But the closeness of his strong body, pressing me into the bed and enveloping me in warmth from head to toe, consistently made me weak, and continuing to be indignant was extremely difficult. Jay knew this perfectly well and skillfully used it to steer everything in the direction he wanted. Right now, he leaned closer, instantly stealing my breath, and purred seductively, almost touching my parted lips with his: “Well… it’s not me who’s been keeping you in his bed for the second night in a row and demanding more and more affection.” What a statement… My eyes widened in shock, and I hissed indignantly: “Jay, you are just…” “What?” He raised his eyebrows, looking at me with a teasing smile while I literally choked with indignation and couldn’t find the words. At least not the polite ones. “Well, what, princess?” He chuckled softly and rubbed his nose against mine, but I huffed angrily and hit his shoulder again (though he didn’t seem to even notice). “You are so…” I began, but he already knew how the sentence ended and rolled his eyes with a quiet laugh. “Shamelessly shameless? I know, baby… sorry…” he purred affectionately into my neck, leaving a long apologetic kiss there. He knew exactly how to calm the indignation he himself had caused. It was another forbidden move from his arsenal that always worked flawlessly, but this time I wasn’t going to give in so easily. “I won’t forgive you! Everything comes too easily to you just because of your pretty eyes!” I grumbled, turning away from him. Jay laughed softly, sliding his hand to my waist and gently squeezing it. He purred quietly into my neck: “Sorry, darling… I just can’t resist teasing you. You’re impossibly adorable when you’re angry, my little fierce kitten… But I see I went a bit too far and you’re genuinely upset, huh? Forgive me, baby… How do you want me to kiss you, hm?” “Not at all! I don’t want to kiss you anymore!” I continued to stubbornly resist, even though I knew perfectly well he wouldn’t leave me alone now. True to form, Jay chuckled cheerfully. Paying no attention to my arms crossed over my chest or my stubbornly pressed lips, he began planting feather-light kisses upward from my collarbones to my jawline and higher, until he left a tender kiss on my temple. With a teasing half-smile, he asked: “Really? Not at all?” “Not at all,” I grumbled, turning away again, even though the feeling of his warm, soft lips on my skin made me want nothing more than to purr like little Jedi sleeping in the armchair. Meanwhile, the full-sized Jedi was doing nothing to strengthen my resolve to refuse his kisses. His shameless lips began the return journey, slowly descending from my temple down to my chin, kissing everything along the way. “Not at all, baby?” he purred again, leaning in and leaving a weightless kiss at the corner of my mouth. I immediately pressed my palm to his impudent lips, huffing and pushing that arrogantly grinning face away from me, which only caused another wave of warm, deep laughter. But Jay was stubborn and extremely persistent, and I shouldn’t have forgotten that even for a second — something I was reminded of just a moment later. “Bambi…” came an impossibly tender voice right by my ear. “Come on, stop sulking… I know you’re not really mad anymore.” “I am mad!” “No, you’re not.” “Yes, I am!” “No.” “Jay…” I groaned in defeat, realizing I couldn’t out-argue him, and covered my face with my hands to at least express my protest that way. But the cheeky brunette wasn’t going to tolerate it any longer. He gently wrapped his warm, strong fingers around my wrists, kissing the backs of my hands, and whispered in an unbearably tender voice: “Look at me, love.” When I stubbornly shook my head, he added — as expected and not the least bit threateningly: “Otherwise I’ll kiss you to death, whether you want it or not.” There it was — threats already. How low you’ve fallen, Dr. McFell… Still, my lips twitched into a smile. I finally lowered my hands from my face and met his warm, laughing eyes. I grumbled reproachfully: “Aren’t you ashamed of threatening your own patient, Dr. McFell? Although, what am I saying… You’re the biggest hooligan, bandit, and manipulator I’ve ever known!” Jay chuckled mockingly and raised an eyebrow, asking with an incredibly annoying half-smirk: “And did you know many hooligans before me, baby?” I huffed indignantly, wordlessly letting him know exactly what I thought of him, and turned away demonstratively again. It didn’t help, of course. His warm fingers gently gripped my chin, turning my face back to him — also wordlessly making it clear that I wasn’t going anywhere. With a quiet smile, Jay leaned in and whispered, tenderly touching the corner of my lips with his: “Sweetheart… please forgive me… I didn’t mean to upset you… You know that, right? There’s nothing more important to me than your happiness… And if all it takes is my kisses, I’ll kiss you until dawn… Come on, give me your lips…” His tender, slightly hoarse whisper woke up every butterfly that had been sleeping inside me at this late hour. I sighed softly and surrendered — as I always did. Resisting his tenderness was simply impossible. I closed my eyes and wrapped my arms around this shameless man’s neck. He smiled in satisfaction and whispered: “That’s it… my good girl…” before covering my lips — which had already parted under his caress — with his own.
