Season 1: Diana Crevan.
Phase 1: Boiling Islands.
Episode 1: The Lying Witch and the Warden.
A young girl with light green hair and tanned skin appears on the screen, holding a magic staff. She somersaults and jumps onto a cliff. She looks at a huge purple snake. Purple Snake: (threateningly) Silly girl! I'll swallow you whole! (he said to her and hissed) Azura: Do not underestimate me, Golden Serpent, for I, the Good Witch Azura, am a warrior of peace! She quickly squats down and points her staff at the snake. Azura: (screams) Now bite me, sucker! She shoots straight at the snake, and it begins to hiss in pain. Purple Snake: (screams) No-o-o! My only weakness! I'm dying! ?: This is the end. The screen shows a fourteen-year-old girl, and she looks like this. She has short dark brown hair, tanned skin, light brown eyes, and classic round black earrings. She's wearing a blue and white sweatshirt, leather shorts, black leggings, and white ballet flats or something similar. The girl's name is Luz Noceda, and she's in Principal Hal's office with an Azura doll and a live snake. A woman resembling Luz appears on the screen. Her hair is pulled back into a bun, and she's wearing a light blue T-shirt and matching pants. It's Luz's mother, Camila Noceda. Camilla: (confused) The end of what? (addressing her daughter) Luz: (smiles) My essay. The green snake bites the Azura doll. Luz: I think I did it right the first time. Hal: You came about your essay. Everyone looks out the window. Outside, children are running away from snakes that are trying to bite them. Luz: (smiles) Oh. So that's where the extra snakes went. Camilla (setting off fireworks): What were you going to do with them? (she asks again). In this scene, a twelve-year-old girl walks out of class. She has long, straight gray hair that hangs loose around her shoulders, and her long bangs are pinned back with two clips to keep them hidden. She has yellow-green eyes, but her vision is very poor, so she wears classic clear contact lenses. She's wearing a school uniform: a white blouse, a black skirt, white knee socks, and black sandals, but she's never liked this outfit. This girl's name is Diana Crevan, and she's Luz Noceda's best friend. She turns around and sees one of Luce's classmates running screaming from a snake crawling on his head. At the sight, Diana breaks into a smile, revealing sharp teeth, and giggles softly. Diana: (touches her lips with her finger) Hee hee, my classmates are so funny, afraid of ordinary snakes. After all, they're not poisonous. (She said this with a wide smile.) She turns again and walks toward the principal's office, where her best friend, Luz Noceda, is. Diana approaches the door, presses her ear to it, and begins eavesdropping on the conversation. Camilla: (walks up to her and squats down) My daughter, I appreciate your creativity, but it's going beyond what's acceptable. (her gaze turns serious) Do you even remember why you were called to the principal's office the last three times? (she asks sternly) Luz looked down in embarrassment, and Diana giggled again, smiled, and rolled her eyes tenderly. Diana: (thoughtfully) It was both funny and sweet. (she thought and started remembering, just like Luz)Memory #1.
Luz auditions for a role in Romeo and Juliet, holding a fake fork. Luz: Oh, blade of happiness, grant me death! She plunges a fork and spoon into her stomach and then rips her dress, causing several sausages to spill out. Everyone else on stage screamed and ran away. Diana sat on a chair, watching the scene with interest and smiling, but when the children ran away after seeing what Luz had done, she burst into laughter, got up from her chair, walked over to the stage where Luz was standing, and helped her up. Diana: (smiling) Luz, that was amazing. (addressing her) Luz: (cautiously) Really? But they didn't seem to like it. (she said, watching her classmates run away) Diana: (she touched Luz's shoulders with her hands) What are you talking about, friend? That was so great, but they don't get it. (supporting her) Luz: (smiling) Thank you. Diana ruffled Luz's hair, and she giggled and blushed.End of flashback #1.
Memory #2.
Luz sews a dove's head onto a squirrel's body on a platform labeled "baby griffin." Luz: And now, for anatomical accuracy, spider breath. She opens the model's beak. Numerous spiders crawl out and slither all over her and the table. People scream in horror and throw things around. Diana hints to Luz, who smiles and picks up the griffin model. Diana takes a photo of it, then runs up to Luz, extends her hand, and, smiling, takes a photo of herself and Luz.End of Memory #2.
Memory #3.
Footage of the cheerleading tryouts, where a girl successfully performs a backflip. The rest of the students applaud. Luz tries to impress everyone by turning her eyelids inside out. Everyone else screams and runs away, and it looks like at least one person is choking. Diana stood by the door, sighing in disappointment. Diana: (thoughtfully) Our cheerleaders are so weak. (She thought for a moment and crossed her arms.)End of Memory #3.
Camilla: We all love the way you express yourself, but if you can't tell fantasy from reality, you might have to spend the whole summer here. (she told her) At these words, Diana's smile vanished, and her yellow-green eyes grew cold. Diana: (coldly) I don't get it? (whispering through clenched teeth) She steps away from the door and then kicks it open, startling Principal Hal, who clutches his heart. Camilla flinches, and Luce turns to her happily. Luz: (happily) Diana! Diana quickly approaches Camille and picks up a brochure labeled "Reality Camp." She glances at the brochure and then at Hal, fixing him with a cold, murderous gaze. Diana: (in an icy voice) Was this your idea? (she asks him) Hal: (gulping) Well... (he is interrupted) Luz: (carefully) Diana... it's okay... I'll go. Diana turned to Luz and looked at her with concern and confusion. Diana: (throws the brochure on the floor) Are you sure? Camilla cleared her throat, getting the girls' attention, and they looked at her. Camilla: Diana, I understand that you wish my daughter the best, but she lives in a fantasy world, not the real world. And you... (interrupts) Diana: (crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow questioningly) And? Camilla: (sighs) You're way too interested in studying human anatomy, animal anatomy, and so on. I talked to your mom, and she said you and Luz are going to this camp. (explains to her) At that moment, Diana remembered something.Memory.
The camera switches to Diana in the nurse's office, picking up a syringe. Diana: (smiles widely, revealing sharp teeth) Well, let's begin. She turns to her classmate, who is strapped to a hospital bed, his mouth taped shut. Diana: (soothingly and softly) There, there, what happened? Don't worry, little one. I'm just going to draw some of your blood into a syringe for testing, that's all. Her classmate looked at her like she was crazy and started twitching.End of flashback.
Diana: (snorts) I just wanted to know what her blood type is and if she's healthy. (clicks her tongue) And by the way, there was a physical at school, and Fiona didn't want to be examined by the nurse. (explains to her) Camilla: (sternly) I know, but you shouldn't have tied her up. (sighs again) Diana was about to say something, but Luz stopped her. Luz: Don't worry, Mom. I won't let you down. (stands up) Enough of this weirdness! The snake in Luz's hand suddenly leaps out and bites Principal Hal. He falls to the ground screaming, and the snake hisses. Diana: (thoughtfully) Nice snake. (smirked) Luz: (hesitantly) That doesn't count, does it? Diana's house. The camera cuts to Diana, who is getting ready for camp. Without telling her mother, Diana had brought black nail polish, stud earrings, and two of her favorite Stephen King horror books: Pet Sematary and It. "Are you ready yet, dear?" - Diana heard her mother's pleasant voice. She turned to see a woman with yellow hair pulled back in a ponytail, gray eyes, and a mole under her right eye. She was wearing a thin white knit long-sleeved sweater, dark blue jeans, and black shoes. She wore her wedding ring on her left hand, which she hadn't taken off since her husband's death. At night, she removed the ring and placed it in a jewelry box, which she then tucked away in her nightstand drawer. This woman's name was Isabella Fernandez, Diana Crevan's mother. The mother gave her daughter her late husband's surname, Crevan, but kept her own surname, Fernandez. Diana: (picking up her backpack) Yes, Mom, but are you sure I need to go there with Luz? (she asked) Isabella put her hands on her hips and looked at her sternly. Isabella: (sternly) Of course, I understand. I understand your interest in anatomy, but this is too much. You'll only be at this camp for three months with your friend, and I hope you come back a normal kid with new friends. (she told her) Diana: (whispering) I'll try, Mom. Isabella: (smiling) Okay. I'll wait for you at home. (With these words, she left the room.) When Isabella left, Diana bared her teeth, revealing sharp teeth, and her yellow-green eyes gleamed ominously. Diana: (whispers ominously) Of course, I'll come back from camp, but a different person. Luz's house. Luz stands disappointed in front of the house, and a moment later, Camilla approaches her. Camilla: Oh, my child! (Hugs her.) Don't worry. Summer camp will only last three months. You'll be so busy grading notebooks and learning... to respect public radio that the time will fly by! (Tries to cheer her up.) Luz was about to protest, but Isabella and Diana approached them. Diana ran up to Luz and gave her a quick hug, then let go. Luz blushed slightly, and Isabella simply smiled at Camilla. Isabella: Hey, Camilla, how are things at work? Camilla: (smiles) As usual. (She quickly replies.) Isabella: (She looked at Diana.) I'm going to work, and you wait for the school bus with Luz. (She asked her to do so and left.) After Isabella left, Camilla looked at Luz. Camilla: What did you want to tell me? Luz: (explaining) I don't like any of this. I like editing anime to music and reading fantasy novels with unexpected plot lines. (She pulls a copy of "Azura, the Good Witch" from her bag.) Diana: (she decides to speak up) And I like watching movies and reading books in the horror and thriller genres. (She pulls out Stephen King's "It") Camilla: (first looking at Luz) My daughter, your fairytale world is only getting in your way. (then looking at Diana) And your dark world doesn't suit you. (now she looks at them both) You've been best friends since childhood, and that's great, but do you have other friends? Real ones. Not imaginary ones, not drawn ones, not reptiles, and not that plastic skeleton in the closet in biology class? (she asked them) Diana: (Frowning and putting the book away) What's Petya's fault? He's a good skeleton. (She turned away, offended.) Camilla said nothing, and Luz walked over to the trash can with her favorite book, while Diana turned away, a flicker of hatred for Luz's mother in her gaze. Camilla: You'll have a chance to make friends at summer camp, but you'll have to try. Can you do it? Luz: (sadly) Yes, Mom. Luz, with a sad expression, tossed "The Good Witch Azura" into the trash can. Diana glanced quickly at her sad friend and clenched her fists. Diana (to herself): She doesn't understand that this book was a gift from Uncle Manny and her most precious treasure, and now she's forcing my friend to throw away what makes her happy. (She has a complicated relationship with Camilla.) At that moment, Camilla's phone rang. Camilla: Oh. I have to go to work. (She approaches her daughter and kisses her on the cheek.) Your bus with Diana will be here soon. Text me when you get there. Take care, dear, it will do you good. (She says this and leaves.) Luz: (sadly) Bye, Mom. After Camilla left, Diana walked over to Luz and quickly glanced around. Diana: Luz, she's gone, and you can have your book. (She told her.) Luz smiled at her and started searching for her book in the trash, but the smile immediately vanished. Luz: (panicked and confused) Diana, my book isn't here. Diana: What do you mean... (interrupted) At that moment, they heard an owl hoot. They both turned toward the sound and saw the owl holding a bag of various things in its beak, and inside the bag was Luce's book. The owl then ran off with the bag. Diana: (interested) It's a tame owl. Luz: (shouting) You little thief! Diana and Luce quickly ran after the owl, which was heading toward the house behind them. The girls stopped. Luce looked surprised, and Diana raised an eyebrow, eyeing the house and the owl suspiciously. Diana: (thinking) This house has been abandoned for a long time. (she pauses in thought) Luz runs into the house first, and Diana is about to follow her, but suddenly we see a pattern resembling a black spiral under the hair on her neck, which begins to glow faintly yellow-green. Diana suddenly feels a slight tension in her neck and reaches back to touch the place where the black spiral had been. Diana: (thinking) That's weird. There don't seem to be any mosquitoes. (shakes her head) Okay, maybe I imagined it. A moment later, she runs to the door to catch up with her friend, but the front door slams behind her, and everything inside begins to glow, illuminating the windows and holes in the roof. In another world. The camera pans inside the tent: the door splits into three parts before opening. A small owl flies in, and a second later, Luce appears in the tent and stops, followed by Diana. Diana: Luz, you caught... (She, too, falls silent.) Luz: (looking around in surprise) Wow. Listen, Diana, I thought we were the only ones with weird things at home. (grabs the strange doll by the collar.) But this... this is impressive. (she says.) Diana: (looks at the strange, ugly doll and squints) Nice design, but I've seen better things, and this one is dirty. (she shares her opinion with it.) Luz: Maybe you're right. ?: You're finally back. Hearing the woman's voice, Luz nearly fell over in surprise, but Diana deftly caught her under the shoulders, and their gazes met. Diana: (smirking) How are you, brown-eyed? (she asks) Luz blushed and quickly jumped away from her, still blushing. Diana giggled and, taking her embarrassed friend by the hand, walked with her. Then Diana pulled back the tent flap, revealing the woman's back. Woman: Let's see what you brought. A small owl perched on the woman's staff. She unfolded it, and the owl transformed into the wooden part of the staff. Luz gasped, and Diana's eyes sparkled with curiosity. Woman: (grabs things and tosses them aside) Trash, trash... trash. (Puts on glasses with plastic lenses) This is driving me crazy. Diana giggled softly, looking at this. Woman: (pulls out Luz's book) And this... Oh, this will make good fuel. (prepares to burn the book) Luz wanted to run over and grab her favorite book, but Diana did it for her: she quickly ran up and snatched "The Good Witch Azura" from the woman's hands. Diana (in a serious tone): Excuse me, madam, but that's my friend's book. Diana takes a couple of steps back, but stops, turns to the woman, and smiles, revealing sharp teeth. Diana: Those joke-shop glasses are cheap. (she says) She smirked, curtsied like a princess, and ran off, leaving the shocked woman behind. Diana quickly grabbed Luz's hand, and they ran to the door, but it closed before they could get through, and it was gone. The camera pulled back, revealing a middle-aged woman with a key and an eye—the same one on the door. Woman: (threateningly) You're not going anywhere. Luz winced, and Diana put the book in Luz's bag and gave the woman a finger. Diana: Yeah, right, in another life, an old woman. (She said this, sticking out her tongue.) They both burst out of the tent. Diana and Luce run and stop a few centimeters from the cliff. They're clearly not on Earth: the city before them is made up of many arms and teeth. A dragon flies past, and one of those arms grabs it. Cut to a shot of the city's inhabitants going about their business: a cloaked figure holding an ice cream cone, from which someone is eating, the legs of something resembling a giant chicken, a centipede-like creature opening its mouth to release a winged creature. The last two kiss before parting. Diana was mesmerized, her eyes filled with admiration. She ran her tongue over her lips, licking them. Diana: (thoughtfully) How cool. (she thought) Luz: (lets go of Diana's hand and starts to panic) Oh no, no, no, no, no! What's going on? She sees a cute fairy and freaks out. Luz: (nervously) Oh, hello, little fairy. You're telling me this is all a magical dream, right? (asks) Fairy: (opens her mouth, revealing large teeth) Give me your skin! At that moment, Diana grabs the fairy and throws her aside. Diana: (disdainfully) Now I understand why I don't like fairies. (She turned to Luz.) Luz, are you okay? (She asked, her gaze instantly softening.) Luz: (Looking at her in panic) I don't know. And I don't know where we are. Are we dead? Are we in hell? At that moment, the gray-haired woman squeezed Luz's shoulder, causing her to flinch. Diana and Luz looked at her. Woman: In your dreams. Luz sits down in fear, while Diana stands next to her, glaring at the woman with hatred in her eyes. Luz: (begging her) Forgive me! I just wanted my book back! Are you going to eat my skin? Just do it quickly! (extending her hand) Right now! At that moment, Diana quickly scoops Luz up in her arms, then lowers her to the floor and holds her behind her back, surprising the woman. Luz blushes, still standing behind her friend. Diana: (threateningly) Listen to me carefully, old woman. If you lay a finger on my close friend, you'll be left without... (interrupted) Woman: What do you mean? I'll hurt her? You're both... potential buyers. (She said this, smiling at them.) Diana was surprised, and Luz, who appeared from behind Diana, was also surprised. Woman: (Showing them objects from their world) Can I offer you a human leg with holes in it? A piece of green human candy? (She picks up a television and shows it to them.) How about a black box with nothing but sadness in it? Luz and Diana burst out laughing, surprising the woman. Diana: (Laughs) I've never heard anyone call our ordinary things so funny. Luz: That's not all she can do. Let me see. She takes batteries from a box labeled "Human Candy." Luz inserts the batteries into the TV, and it turns on. Luz: Well, that's it. Suddenly, several monsters hear music coming from the TV. Monster #1: What is that? Monster #2: That sound... it's so adorable. Monster #3: I'll pay 40 slimes for a screaming box! Monster #2: I'll give you a hundred! Can I eat that little person inside? Woman: (smiling and looking at the girls) What are your names? Luz: My name is Luz. Luz Noceda. Diana: (crossing her arms and smirking) My name is Diana Crevan. Woman: (accepting money from customers) Well, Luz, that was quite clever... for a human. (she looked at Diana) And you seem rather cheeky... for half-human. (turning to her and winking) Diana: (raising an eyebrow) What do you mean, "half-human"? And who are you? Woman: Oh, my child, I'm nothing like you and your friend. She removes her bontana, revealing pointed ears. Ida: (standing on the table) I am Ida, the Owl Lady, the most powerful witch of the Boiling Isles. Luz: (surprised) A witch? Diana: (thoughtfully) I wonder if witches' blood is different from ours and how their organs are structured? (Her gaze was filled with genuine interest.) Ida: (explaining) I am respected, I am feared... (she interrupts him) One of the guards smashes the television with his fist, and all the patrons run away screaming at the sight of him. Monster: (screaming) Run! It's the guards! Guard: Eda, Owl Lady, you are wanted for misuse of magic and crimes against demons. (pulls out a poster with Eda's photo) Luz: (surprised) Wow! A criminal witch! Diana: (pondering) So, she's like an apostate? (she thought) Guard: Am I ordering you to come with me to Conformium? (grabs her wrist) Eda jerked her hand back and glared at him. Eda: Guys, maybe you should stop following me around? (she said, crossing her arms over her chest) The guard grabs Luz by the hood, and he gasps in surprise. Guard: And you and the girl will be taken away too for being friends with a criminal. (addressing her) Diana didn't like this and started searching for something in her backpack. Luz: (wrapping her arms in fear) W-what? This is not cool! Ida: (pretending to give in) Okay, your... (she doesn't have time to finish her sentence) Diana finds pepper spray in her backpack and sprays it right in the guard's eyes. Diana: (screaming) Don't you dare touch her! The guard felt a terrible pain in his eyes and, with a scream, released Luce, who fell to the ground. The guard began rubbing his eyes with his hands. Diana anxiously approached Luce and checked to see if she was okay. Diana: (concerned) How are you? (she asked, extending her hand) Luz: (extends her hand, and Diana helps her up) Yes. Diana turned to Ida and saw her surprised, slightly curious look. Then she crossed her arms over her chest and smiled. Ida: You have good reflexes, young lady. (she noticed) Diana: (twirling pepper spray in her hand and grinning) I always carry pepper spray, just in case. Ida smiled, then picked up her staff, spun it around, and slammed the base onto the ground, sending all her belongings flying. Diana picked up Luz's book and handed it to her, then put the pepper spray back in her backpack. Ida: (rummaging through her hair, searching for the key to the magic door) Oops. I can't forget this. (she found the key) She presses the eye to open the portal. Ida clenches her fist and covers all her belongings with the tablecloth. Ida: (pushes the staff through the bundle) Follow me, humans and demihumans. (she said to them and ran) Diana and Luz ran after her. Luz: (running) This is crazy. If I die here, Mom will kill me! Diana: (running) Luz, Aunt Camille won't lay a finger on you as long as I'm alive. Speaking of my mom, I'm not sure I could survive if she found out where we are! (addressing her) Ida: (looking at Luz first) Ha! I won't let them harm you or your friend. A living person is much more valuable to me than a dead one. Now she looked at Diana. Ida: (looking at her) And by the way, Diana, you look so much like your father, Adrian Crevan, nicknamed the Undertaker, both in appearance and personality. And you inherited your sharp teeth and the other half of your personality from Yana Toboso, my best friend. (she explained to her) Luz: (confused) Wait. What do you mean... (she doesn't have time to finish her sentence) Diana: (confused) What do you mean? My parents' names are actually Isabella and... (she doesn't have time to finish her sentence) Ida grabs them, they fly into the air, and the guard's eyes stop hurting so he can catch up with them. Guard: You won't get away with this, Owl Lady! Yeah, right. But you managed to escape. Get away scot-free. She got away scot-free, guys! (leaves disappointed) Typical. Luz. The camera switches to Luz, who closes her eyes in fear and clutches the book to her chest. Ida: You can open your eyes now, human. Diana: Listen to her, it's so beautiful here. Luz opens her eyes and sees them flying on a magical staff. She nearly fell in fright, but Diana pulled Luce close with one arm, holding her to her chest while holding the staff with the other. At that moment, Luce's face flushed, and she swallowed. Luz: (stuttering) D-Diana... can you... let me go? Diana: Just hold on, like me. (She took the book from her and released her embrace.) Luz quickly grabbed the staff with both hands and took a deep breath, her blush fading. Luz: (chattering rapidly) Flying staffs, crazy monsters, and you're also a witch... What is this place? (she begins) Diana: (continuing) Now it's my turn. My parents' names are Isabella Fernandez, not some Yana Toboso, and my father... (interruption) Ida: (explaining) I'll answer your friend's question first, and yours when we get to my house. Diana looked at Ida suspiciously, then sighed. Diana: (giving up) Okay, tell me what this place is. Ida: (explaining) These are the Boiling Islands. All your human myths are based on our world slightly infiltrating yours. They notice a huge griffin and scream. Luz: Griffin! Griffin bleats like a spider. Luz: (happily) I knew it! Diana: (grins) That's just our style. Ida: Yeah. Griffins, vampires, giraffes... Luz: Giraffes? Ida: Oh, right. We banished those guys. (They descend to the ground) Bunch of weirdos. Ida jumps off the staff, but her hand stays in place. Luz notices that Eda's hand is moving on its own. Diana grabs her hand and examines it closely, baring her sharp teeth and peering at her with eerie interest. Diana: (pondering) I wonder if human limbs have a life of their own. (she pauses for thought, then snaps out of it) Ida, your arm. (she turns to her) Ida: (screws her arm back on) Oops. That happens sometimes. Luz: Well, I've had enough adventures for today. This definitely isn't the 12th fantasy world I always dreamed of, so could you help us get home? (turning to her) Diana: (looking seriously at Ida, hands on her hips) What about someone named Yana Toboso and someone named Adrian, who shares my last name? Will you tell me, or have you forgotten? Ida: (leaning toward them) Only if you help me. (She chuckles and starts walking.) Ah, well then, let's go, human and demihuman. Luz gasped and Diana rolled her eyes in annoyance at Eda calling her a half-human. The camera zooms in on a tower, where an owl with an oddly humanoid face perches on top, clucking. The owl swoops down, revealing the Owl House, which Eda, Diana, and Luz are approaching. Eda explains that the Owl House is protected by her security system, Hootie. Diana's curious look returned, but she restrained herself, and Hootie opened his mouth wide to allow them entry. Then the three entered, and Hootie burped. Ida: (snaps fingers) Welcome to... the Owl House. Candles are lit. A fire flares in the fireplace, a cauldron begins to bubble, and a broom sweeps the floor. An image of an owl-like creature begins to circle overhead, emitting a loud screech. Ida: (explaining) This is where I hide from the hardships of modern life. And from the police. And from ex-boyfriends. Luz: (puts the book on the table) It's so beautiful here! (she tells her) Diana looked at the ceiling, which had a painting of an owl-like animal on it, and whistled. Diana: Ida, your ceiling is magnificent. (looks around.) And your house is cozy. (looks at Ida.) Do you live alone? (asks with interest.) They heard loud footsteps, and the house shook slightly. Eda (crossing her arms): Actually, I have a neighbor. Diana grabs Luz's hand and pulls it behind her back, then pulls out a can of pepper spray and holds it out, ready to spray it at Eda's dangerous neighbor at any moment. ?: (in an ominous voice) Who would dare stop me... Suddenly, a small demon the size of a stuffed animal enters the room, wearing a bright towel and cap, holding a rubber ducky. King: (now in a friendly tone) The Demon King himself? Seeing him, Diana dropped the pepper spray, and Luz's eyes lit up, and she blushed at how cute the demon looked. Luz: (runs up to him and hugs him) Angel! Yeah, he's so cute! Who's so little? Who's so little? Is it you? Is it you? The king was about to break free, but Luce handed him to Diana, who looked at him with her mouth slightly open. Luz: Diana, come on. Hug him too. (she says) Diana closed her mouth and joyfully ran to Luz, picked him up, and hugged him. Diana: Oh my god, this is the cutest thing imaginable. She stopped hugging him and looked at him intently, while the king himself looked confused. Diana: (looking at him with an attentive, tender gaze) You look a bit like a wolf cub. Your head and muzzle resemble a skull. No, you look more like a cute puppy than a wolf cub. (she says, hugging him again) King: (he couldn't resist and started to struggle in Diana's embrace) I'm not a wolf cub, I'm not a puppy! Ida, who are these two monsters? (he asked her in a panic) Ida grabs Diana, who reaches out to hug him again, but Ida stops her. Ida: (explaining to him) First up is Luz, a human. And this is Diana Crevan, she's half-human. King: (wide-eyed) Crevan? She has your friend's husband's last name? And I was wondering why she looked... (he doesn't finish his sentence) Ida: (grinning) I'll explain it to you a little later. But they're both here to help us with our... situation. (releasing Diana) King: (happily) Oh! Hooray! Luz: (confused) Wait, wait, wait. I don't like the sound of that "situation." Diana glared at Eda—both because she'd called her a half-human again and because she couldn't understand her connection to these two strangers. Eda: (drawing a magic circle) Just... let me explain. The King was a powerful demon lord until his crown of power was stolen and he turned into... this. Luz: (hugs the King) You mean this little bundle of joy? Ida: (continues explaining) The crown is now in the possession of the evil Wrathful Overseer and is trapped in a magical field that only a human like you or Diana can pass through. (magic circle disappears) If you help us get his crown back... (she looked at Diana) I'll tell you about Adrian Crevan and Yana Toboso. (then she looked at the two girls) And we'll send you to your kingdom. (she lifts the king) Besides, who could refuse such a cute little one? King: (shouts) No! Don't encourage them! Eda: (drops King, Diana walks up to him and carefully picks him up) I mean, we're, like, your only way home. (she told them) Diana walks up to Eda and offers her a hand, holding the King with her other hand. Diana: I agree, but keep your word. (She said this to Eda, and Eda shook her hand.) Luz: So I have no choice, right? Eda: (grabs Luz's hand) No. Let's go, let's not waste time. (After saying this, she leaves.) Diana and the king followed her. Luz: (asks) Where are we going? Ida: (explains) Somewhere really cozy. A gunshot from the Conformer, thunder rumbles. Ida: (explains) A correctional facility is a place for those deemed unfit for life in society. Diana: (thoughtfully) This prison looks like St. Olga's School for Wayward Princesses from Star Princess vs. the Forces of Evil. (Crosses her arms.) Luz: (takes a poster) Wow. Looks like those guys have their eye on you. Ida: Yeah, but they've never caught us because we're so nimble. King: (on Diana's head) Try catching me while I'm still covered in fat. I'm a nimble little fellow. (jumps off her head) You and I will make our way to the top of the tower where my crown is kept. Ida: And I'll make sure the warden is distracted. Luz: (smiles) Do I need a disguise? Ida (looking away): Uh-huh. Luz: I've been waiting for this moment for so long. (puts on a hood with cat ears) Meow-meow. Diana: (smiles and gives a thumbs-up) Great disguise, my friend! Your future boyfriend will definitely love it. And he'll definitely fall in love with you. (she winks at her.) Luz: (embarrassed) Future boyfriend? (smiles softly and looks down) But I haven't met anyone yet. Eda: Okay, let's get started. Eda taps the end of her staff on the ground, creating a circular, glowing platform. She steps away from it. The platform rises and hovers in the air right in front of the tower window. Suddenly, it disappears, forcing Diana and Luce to grab the edge of the platform, and the King to grab Luce's legs. Meanwhile, Eda lowers her staff and sits casually as the platform rises. The King groans and climbs the ladder to the window. Diana sighs and pulls herself to the window, then falls to the floor, then stands up and helps Luz up. The three are amazed by the number of prison cells in front of them. They are all occupied by shadow creatures of varying shapes and sizes, but their eyes all glow in the dark. ?: Hey, Catwoman and the young female version of Adrien, aka Undertaker, how did you both get out of those cells? They notice a young witch with fangs in the cell. Luz: (explaining) No, no, no. I'm not a cat. (removing her hood) And my friend and I are not criminals. Diana: (rolling her eyes and pinching the bridge of her nose) Oh my god, another one. (she said irritably and sighed) Yeah, we're not criminals. (she replied) Witch Girl: Not yet. Like the rest of us. That stupid warden likes to lock up people who don't fit into the system. (She takes out her book.) For example, I write fanfiction about different foods falling in love with each other. I like food, I like love... Just let me write about it. Monster: I'm here because I enjoy eating my own eyes. Tinella Nosa: We're agents of the Freedom of Disguise! They'll never silence us! Witch Girl: Yeah, she's obsessed with conspiracy theories. Tinella Nosa: (screaming) The world is a simulation! We're just toys for a higher being! Luz: (disgruntled) Wait. But those aren't crimes. None of you have done anything wrong. (She looked sadly at the poster.) You're all just a bunch of weirdos. Like Diana and me. Diana (sympathetically): Luz... They hear muffled footsteps that catch their attention. They are Wrath's. Luce and Diana run into the open cell and slam the door. The footsteps continue until the door swings open. Wrath calls to them. Luz is on the verge of tears with fear, and Diana puts her arm around her shoulders. Wrath notices a poster of Eda and vows to find her. He peers into the cell, where Diana, Luz, and the King are huddled in the corner. After Nosa encourages Luz and Diana to fight, Warden Wrath approaches her cell and opens it. She watches the door open. Warden Wrath grabs Tinella Nosa, squeezing her in his fist. He lifts her up and points at the other two prisoners. Angry tirades about how dissenters will be punished. Suddenly, Diana glared at Rath, so full of anger and hatred that her yellow-green eyes glowed bright yellow-green for a few seconds, and only the King and Luce noticed. Luz: (pondering) Are her yellow-green eyes glowing? (She looked at her in surprise, as did the King, and then her eyes stopped glowing.) He squeezes her tighter, and Tinella Nosa squeals again. Overseer Wrath leaves, crumpling the wanted poster as he goes and slamming the door. Diana opens her cell and walks out with Luce and the King. Diana clenches her fists in rage, then slams her fist against the wall, causing several cracks to appear. Diana (through clenched teeth): How dare he? She's a living being and wants to be herself. (She takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly.) Okay, Luz, let's get them out of here. (She speaks in a calmer tone than a few seconds ago.) King, Luz, why are you looking at me like that? (Her gaze is a mixture of surprise and question.) Diana noticed Luce and the King's surprised looks, and then Luce shook her head. Luz: It's okay. Luz: (grabs the lever) Don't worry, I'll get us out of here. (She can't lift the lever.) No! My weak, stupid hands! (She looks at Diana.) Can you lift the lever? (She asks.) Diana: (shakes her head) No, I can't. I'm weak too. Luce and the King looked at her as if to ask, "Are you serious?" Witch Girl: Just get out of here, guys. Enjoy your freedom for us. (She sadly walks deeper into the cell.) Luz left disappointed, and Diana quickly peeked into the witch's cell. Diana: (Thinks) Luz and I will definitely free you. (Determination was evident in her gaze, and she ran after Luz.) Diana and Luz were walking down the hallway when Eda flew up to them. Eda: I found you. The Overseer will be busy torturing a tiny creature. He'll be leaving soon. (she said) Luz passed by Eda, and Diana glanced at Eda with displeasure. Diana: (displeased) She's a living being and feels everything. (she said and passed by Eda) They approach a tall door marked "Smuggling." The King runs to the door and grabs the handle, which is as big as he is. Eda: He's so cute when he's trying to gain his power. Luz: (begins with sadness in her voice) They're unfair here. Diana: (continued, clenching her fists) They just want to be themselves. Luz and Diana: (They looked at Eda simultaneously) Why does everyone think being weird is so bad? (They said unisen) When Luce realized she'd said the same thing as Diana, she blushed and turned away, and Diana just smiled knowingly. The King grumbled. The doorknob fell to the floor. The King, giggling, flung the door open and ran inside, but found himself behind a barrier. Luz, Diana, and Eda followed him. Diana approached the King, picked him up, and carefully and tenderly examined him to make sure he was okay. Then she hugged him and gently lowered the slightly surprised King to the ground. Eda and Luz smiled at the sight. Eda (whispering so only she could hear): She's so much like them. Luz: (whispering so only she can hear) Are you talking about Adriana and Yana Toboso? (She clarifies, and Eda nods.) Diana: (She looked at Eda.) Okay, I'll stay with the king, and Luz will go get his crown. (She looked at her friend.) Does that suit you? (She asks, and Luz agrees.) Luz takes a deep breath. She presses her hand to the column before walking through it. Inside are piles of what can only be described as junk: from books and skulls to dead fish in an aquarium. At the top of the central column lies a glowing crown. Luz takes the paper crown from Burger King and looks very upset. King: (He happily extends his hands, and Luz hands him the crown.) My crown! (He places it on his head.) Yes, yes! I feel my strength returning! (Note the stuffed bunny.) Hey, you. Nightmare animal. (lifts him up) I will name you François, and you will be my servant in the army of darkness. (says this and laughs) Diana crossed her arms over her chest and looked at him with understanding. Luz: The crown doesn't give him any powers, does it? Eda: (smiling) Hm, no. (Then sadly) Look at us, Luz, Diana. The king and I don't have much in this world. We only have ourselves. (Then she smiled again.) So if this stupid crown is important to him, it's important to me too. Anyway, weirdos like us need to stick together, you know? (She explained to them.) Luz smiled shyly and blushed, and Diana put her hand on her shoulder. Eda: Okay, we owe you. Let's get out of here before the warden finds us and loses his head. At that moment, Wrath appears behind Eda. Wrath: Too late. (He said this and chopped off Eda's head.) Luz clutches her head and screams, and Diana looks at Eda's head with interest. Eda: (displeased) I hate it when things like this happen. And then Luz screamed even louder, and Diana's gaze became even more interested than a second ago. Then she smiled predatorily, revealing sharp teeth. Diana: (thoughtful) How interesting. (she thought) Luz: (frightened) Eda! Are you okay? Eda: (explaining) Yes. That's what happens when you get older. Luz: Really? Diana: (smirking) I see. Wrath: (approaching them) So, I cornered you, Eda, Owl Lady. (He takes the crown from the King.) My guards couldn't catch you, but I knew if I took your pet's toy, you'd come running. (He breaks the crown.) King: (shouting) No! My power! (He says, falling to his knees, almost crying.) Diana and Luce looked at Rat with displeasure. Ida: (disgruntled) What do you want from me? I've never broken your stupid laws... in front of you. Anger: I want you... (kneels down and takes out flowers) to go on a date with me. Ida: (confused) Wh... What? Luz: (also confused) Wh... What? Diana simply covered her mouth and giggled softly. Guard #1: (supportively) Come on, boss! Guard #2: (supportively) You can do it, boss! Wrath: You've always eluded us. You've always been able to escape. I find that charming. Luce: (disgusted) I don't like what you're saying now. Diana: (grinning, revealing sharp teeth) Hee-hee-hee, excuse me, mister, but Ida might be married, have you considered that? (she said mockingly, crossing her arms over her chest) Anger: (throws the bouquet and transforms her hand into tentacles) Don't interfere! He grabs Diana and Luce and makes them hover above the ground. Wrath: Well, what do you say, Owl Lady? (grabs her by the hair) The most powerful witch of the Boiling Isles and the fearsome Guardian of Wrath. We could be the strongest couple in history. Well, I mean, we both know you can't refuse now. Ida looked first at the girls, then at the king. Ida: (pretending to give in) Alright, boss. You win. But now I have something to tell you. Come closer. Just a little bit more. Just a little bit more... Yes, that's it. (says and spits in his face) Guard Wrath screams and drops Luz and Diana. Luz screams, and Diana falls to the floor in a Super Spider-Man stance with a smirk on her face, then straightens up and helps Luz up. Wrath wipes Eda's drool from her mask. Eda laughs and dismisses him. Wrath threatens to kill the girls, but Luz hits him over the head with Eda's staff. Wrath falls to the ground with a thud, and Diana looks at Luz proudly. Ida: Cool! Two guards approach Ida's head. She glares at them, comes up behind them, and pulls their hoods over their heads. Luz runs up and grabs Ida by the head. Ida's body frees the king from the guard's grip, Diana grabs Ida by the waist, and together they climb onto the staff. The owl spreads its wings and hoots. Luz: Magisium... Let's go! Ida notices Rat starting to come to. Eda: Quick, wand! (she said, striking her staff.) Guardian Wrath rises to his feet with a crash. His arms transform into bundles of tentacles, which he uses to grab the staff. They rush past the prison cells, with Warden Wrath hot on their heels. They spot a staircase leading to the cell of a witch who writes fan fiction about food. Diana and Eda take Luce's hands. They open the cells of the three prisoners Diana, Luce, and the King had spoken to earlier. Everyone looks agitated. They burst through the outer door of the tall Conformium in the center, Luce screaming and then collapsing. Guardian Wrath appears right behind them and slams into a column. The staff and Wrath fall to the ground. The Guardian of Wrath extends one of its tentacles and strikes the back of the staff, knocking Eda, the King, Diana, and Luz back. They roll on the ground, and the Guardian of Wrath stands before them, its hand once again transforming into a blade. Eda throws her head back and pulls the portal key from her hair. Ida: Luz, Diana, return to the human world. (She hands Diana the key.) Diana: (Raising her voice slightly) What are you saying?! We won't abandon you! (She says this and stands up.) Ida: I don't want Adrian and Yana's daughter to be harmed. (She starts running.) Listen to me, and don't be mistaken. (She screams and runs away.) When Ida and the King ran away, leaving Diana in shock, Luce was also shocked, but not as much as Diana. Luz: (Recovering from her shock.) D-Diana? (She calls out to her childhood friend, worried.) Diana: (Whispering.) My friend's daughter? Adrien is Yana's husband? I'm a copy of Yana's husband, Toboso. (She puts these facts together and says them out loud.) Am I... adopted? (She says this, and the unexpected truth hits her like lightning.) Luz, overcome with emotion, hugs Diana. Diana: (Shaking out of her stupor and brushing away a sudden tear.) I'm okay, Luz. (She sighs.) Luz releases Diana, who whispers something in her ear. Luz likes it, but she's still worried about Diana. They sit on the staff, and Diana hesitantly runs her hand over the owl's head, as if afraid of hurting her. But the staff rises and they fly towards the prison. Ida creates several magic circles, from which flames erupt. They hit Wrath directly and bounce off the wall. Wrath stands up, waving his blade-like arms, and lunges at Ida again. Three prisoners peer out from the hole he made in the wall. Luz: (flies up to them and jumps off her staff, like Diana) Why are you just standing there? This is your chance to escape! Monster: The warden will catch us. Again. Witch Girl: We're here forever. Tinella Nosa: Self-doubt is a prison from which there is no escape. Diana: Don't you dare say that. All three of you are special, just like Luz and I. I don't know who created this prison and forces the inhabitants of this world to sit in cages because you want to be yourselves. He's just a terrible person and a psycho. (She voiced her opinion, but it sounded like a speech.) Witch Girl: Why are you helping us? (Her gaze showed surprise at Diana's words.) Diana and Luz: (simultaneously) Because weirdos should stick together. (Diana sits on her staff, like Luz, and Luz pulls up her hood.) And no one should suffer just for who they are. (They said this in unison.) The three prisoners were impressed by their speech. Luz: Now, Diana, let's go save Eda! All three follow them. At Eda's. Ida is thrown to the ground, and a second later, the King falls into her arms. Guardian Wrath looms over them, threatening. The King whines and buries his face in Ida's chest. The prisoners rush at Wrath, screaming. Luz and Diana fly after them. The prisoners subdue Wrath, extolling the virtues of their quirks. Tinella Nosa joins the witch who writes fan fiction about food to immobilize Guardian Wrath, while the Prisoner Who Eats Eyes grabs his arms and ties them. Wrath: (angrily) You! Who do you think you are? Luz and Diana descend from the staff. Diana smirks and crosses her arms. Diana: (beginning) Don't underestimate us, Guardian Wrath. I am Diana Crevan, half-human. (She looked at Luz.) Come on, friend! (She turned to her, bowed, and took a step back.) Luz: (continues) And I am Luz, a human, a warrior of peace. (then she throws a firework and slams her staff right into Wrath's mouth) Now bite this, weakling! (she screams) The firework in Wrath's mouth exploded, and fireworks began to explode in the sky, while Wrath himself ran off somewhere, crying. King: Actually, that was one of her best breakups. Ida: (looks at him) Not a breakup. Anyway, let's go before some other monster falls in love with me. (she says) Diana: (raises her palm, as if hinting) Can I have a few seconds? (asks Eda, who nods) Diana looked at the witch who writes fan fiction about people in love with food. Diana: (shouting to be heard) Hey, by the way, what's your name? The witch looked surprised, then smiled. Katya: (shouting to be heard) My name is Katya. So, you're Diana? Diana nodded and smiled at her, and then they all flew together to the owl house, where an important conversation and a difficult choice awaited Diana and Luce. In the owl house. Ida: Well, that's a deal. (Sighs, then looks at Diana.) Let's start with the fact that you actually... (She doesn't finish her sentence.) Diana quickly grabs her backpack and pulls out a thermos of hot tea and a container of homemade cookies shaped like skulls and dog bones. Diana: Ida, can you get the teacups? (asks her.) Ida: (surprised) Of course. The camera switches to Diana, who pours the tea into cups and sits down with Luz on the couch. The King sits on Luz's lap, and Eda sits on the chair in front of them. Diana: (takes a sip of tea) Well, go ahead, explain. I was adopted, right? (she begins calmly) Ida: (sighs again) Your eyes are yellow-green... (begins) Diana: (raises an eyebrow) I already realized I'm a carbon copy of my biological father. So what does this have to do with my biological father, that you're suddenly calling me half-human? (she asks) Ida: (explains) Diana, you're half-human because your father, Adrien Crevan, is a Grim Reaper, and Grim Reapers are sometimes called Shinigami, gods of death. (she said this, expecting a reaction) Luz choked on her cookie, and Diana choked on her tea at the unexpected announcement, but the king wasn't surprised; he'd known about it for a long time. Luz and Diana (shocked): WHAT? Ida: (changes the subject slightly) That's right. You had good eyesight until you were five, and then everything changed, am I right? Diana: (inhales and exhales) So... about my eyesight, it's true. I had good eyesight until I was five, and then it gradually deteriorated so much that I started seeing the world blurrily, like in a thick fog. My mother... (she suddenly paused and bit her lip) Luz: (continued for her) Because of that incident, Aunt Isabella gave her my mother's glasses, the ones she wore as a child. (she looked at her friend) Am I explaining this correctly? (she said, and Diana nodded) Diana: (continues explaining) So, when I was ten, I asked my... adoptive mother if I could wear colored contacts, and she didn't mind. (sighs) But when I put in the blue ones, I went blind, and when I took them off and put my glasses back on, my vision was clear again. Then I decided to try clear lenses, but it turned out they fit me perfectly, and I can see just as well as with glasses. (finishes explaining) Ida: (Bites a cookie and takes a sip of tea.) No wonder all Reapers have poor eyesight, and their distinctive feature is their yellow-green eyes. Any other questions? (Smiles and speaks.) Diana: (asks) What about Yana Toboso? She's human, right, like your friend? Ida: (Explaining.) Yana is human, but she's a powerful kunoichi from another world called the Shinobi World. She was almost twelve when she accidentally ended up in the fourth world, where your biological father lives. There, they fell in love, and then you were born. (She finished.) Luz: (Confused) The Shinobi World? The Fourth World? Diana: (Surprised) What do you mean? How many worlds are there? Ida: (Explaining) There are only four worlds: the human world, the Boiling Islands, the Shinobi World, and an alternate England. (She said this while sipping tea.) Luz: (Impressed) Wow. (She looked at her surprised friend.) Your family has Reapers and powerful kunoichi. And these worlds... (She waved her hands.) So cool! Diana: (pretending to leave) Everything's back to normal. Now, Eda, take us back. (addressing her) Eda: (snaps her fingers, and the key flies toward her) Good. (she presses the eye, and a magical door appears and begins to open) Luz and Diana approach the door. Luz hugs herself, then looks at the King, who sadly lowers his gaze. Luz: (approaches him) Before Diana and I go... (removes the crown from Azura's doll) I know she's not like that, but... a king without a crown isn't a king. (gives him the crown) King: (places a small crown on his head) Okay. Hey, you plant! You obey me now. At that moment, something clicked in Ida's head, and she remembered something. She quickly ran up the stairs and returned a couple of minutes later with a large box. Diana: (blinks) What is this? Ida: (smiles) It was a gift from your biological father, and Yana left it in my trust. It's as if they both sensed that you would come to me and take his gift. Diana: (incredulous) Are they alive? Ida: Of course they are, and by the way, reapers are immortal. Luz: (happily) Diana, hurry up and open it! I can't wait to see what's inside! Diana knelt down and began to open the box. What she saw inside surprised her. It was a scythe, and it looked like this: it had a sharp blade, and the handle was black with white, gold, and purple patterns. Diana picked it up, and the scythe felt comfortable, light, and perfect, as if it had been made especially for her. Diana: (mesmerized) It's so beautiful. It's... Ida: (explaining) This is the Death Scythe. Every Grim Reaper has their own Death Scythe. And by the way, your father, Undertaker, made it himself to please you. Snap your fingers. Diana did so. At that moment, the Death Scythe transformed into a smaller version on a silver chain, which fell into Diana's palm. Diana puts it around her neck with a smile and thanks Ida. Eda (handing the book to Luz): Oh, don't pay attention. Luz looked at the camp brochure, then at her favorite book, and then at the human world. Luz gasped and held the book up to her face. Luz noticed that the characters in this book resembled her, the King, and Eda. Diana: (to herself) 3, 2, 1. (counting and smiling tenderly) Luz: Anyway, I know you got your head chopped off today and now we're, like, on the run, but it was still the most fun day of my life. Eda was surprised and confused. Luz: I'm not like people. You're not like those creatures. So maybe if Diana and I... (she doesn't have time to finish her sentence) Diana: Luz, be brave and tell her you want us both to stay on the Boiling Isles... (she looked at Eda and smirked) As her students... (now she looked at her friend) Is that what you meant? Luz: (smiles) It's like you read my mind. Eda: What? Hm, that's nonsense. A human and a half-human can't become witches. Luz: Maybe because no one's ever tried? If you teach me how to be a witch and Diana how to be a strong kunoichi, I'll do whatever you want. King: (tugging at the fabric of her dress with his paws) Let's leave them alone! Diana's cookies are so delicious. Eda: (lifting the King) Well, I could use a free hand to save the cabinets from that idiot. Fine. I'll teach you how to be a witch, and you, Diana, will become a kunoichi. But before you learn magic and martial arts, you'll have to work for me. (extends her hand) Deal? At that moment, Luz approaches Eda and hugs her. Eda is stunned. Some time later. Luz, in her pajamas, jumps onto the sleeping bag. Luz and Diana will be living and sleeping in the attic, just like Eda told them before bed. Luz picks up a photo of herself cuddling with Camilla. At that moment, Diana approaches her in her pajamas—a black T-shirt with a white skull, white shorts with a purple pattern, and white socks with green snakes. Luz: Diana, you came... (She pauses and covers her mouth with her hand, either from excitement or joy.) It turns out Diana had pierced ears—stud earrings with a gold stone and a black triangle. Diana: (Tucks a strand of hair behind her ear.) I decided to start being myself today. (She said with a soft smile.) At that moment, they simultaneously received texts from their mothers, each asking, "How was your first day at camp?" They were about to reply, but at that moment the King appeared with a stuffed rabbit and asked permission to join them. Diana lay down on the second sleeping bag and gestured for the King to sleep with them, and he did so. They simultaneously texted their mothers how much they loved it there and fell asleep. To be continued in the second episode of the first season.
