Summers were short in Alaska, and ours was coming to an end. I hadn’t seen Brynn in weeks. I wondered if she would’ve asked for my assistance on more cases if I hadn’t been with Carol. Fall was setting in when I moved in with Carol. I gave up my tiny, dumpy studio to join her in her spacious cottage by the waterfront. Shortly after, Carol and I were having lunch at the diner when Brynn showed up. She joined us, and I was happy to learn she was seeing someone named Jenny. Since Carol had treated us last time, Brynn treated us this time. We agreed to get together as couples soon. About a week later, we had Brynn and Jenny over for dinner. We all hit it off well and seemed to get along easily. Jenny was a shy but cute redhead. She and I talked a lot while Carol and Brynn chatted on their own. Eventually, the subject of moving came up. Brynn’s houseboat was getting old and having too many problems to be worth fixing. Also, Jenny’s roommate was getting married, and it would be tough for her to swing the rent alone. Alaska was expensive, so sharing a place helped—assuming you got along. Since Carol and Brynn went way back, I felt more comfortable with the idea of them joining us. I trusted Brynn’s choice of girlfriend and the fact that I felt comfortable around both of them. We got together a couple more times in public and on Brynn’s boat before the move became final at the end of the month. So now I had a hottie for a girlfriend, another hottie for a roommate, and another roommate with a very easygoing personality. How lucky was that?
