Amara met Chijioke outside the lecture hall, a slight smirk on her lips. "Well, 'shy guy,' you certainly surprised me today," she said. "Running to help Ada like that was very brave."
"It just... happened. I didn't really think, I just acted," Chijioke admitted, his face flushed.
"Exactly! Less overthinking, more doing," Amara affirmed, leading him to a secluded campus garden. He followed, trying to shake the rumors: Amara was the "IT girl," successful and intimidating. Why was she spending time with him?
She settled onto a stone bench and pulled out a small, worn notebook. "Here's the twist," she announced, her voice dropping. "I want to help you, but not just out of the goodness of my heart. I'm secretly obsessed with psychology, and I’m doing a personal project on social anxiety."
Chijioke's shoulders slumped. The brief flicker of romantic hope was extinguished. "So, I'm... an experiment?"
"An 'experiment' with mutual benefits!" she corrected, winking. "I get to practice my future clinical skills, and you get to stop being 'the shy guy.' Think of me as your personal, non-judgmental social coach."
His curiosity won over his disappointment. "And what does this project entail?"
"Simple: Observation, lessons, and practical tasks. First task: Go over to that group of girls and ask them for the time. And I mean, use your actual voice, not that muffled whisper you use."
Chijioke swallowed hard, his stomach twisting with panic. This was it. His first step into the unknown. He looked across the garden at the small group of laughing students. He was about to risk public embarrassment just to ask for the time.
But when he looked back at Amara, he realized her sharp, professional gaze had softened, and she was watching him not just with clinical interest, but with genuine, quiet hope.
