Jackie made arrangements for their journey, ensuring that everything was set for Pemuya's comfort and safety. The thought of introducing her to his world was both thrilling and terrifying. He knew the chaos of the city would be a stark contrast to the serenity of the jungle, but he was determined to make it work. The day of the flight arrived, and Jackie could see the apprehension in Pemuya's eyes as she looked at the towering airplane. He took a deep breath and whispered reassurances, reminding her of their shared strength and the promise of a new life ahead. As they boarded the plane, he held her hand tightly, guiding her through the narrow aisles. They settled into their seats, and she looked around the cabin with wide eyes, taking in the unfamiliar sights and sounds. The roar of the engines drowned out the last whispers of the jungle, and Jackie felt his chest tighten with a strange mix of excitement and fear for what lay ahead. The flight was long, but Pemuya's curiosity kept her distracted from the discomfort. She watched the world shrink below them, the vast expanse of green giving way to cities and oceans. Jackie pointed out landmarks, explaining the concept of civilization beyond the confines of the jungle. Her eyes sparkled with wonder, and he felt his own excitement growing, eager to share his life with her. When they finally touched down in San Francisco, Pemuya looked out the window at the sprawling metropolis with a mix of awe and trepidation. Jackie could see the fear in her eyes, but also the hope that this new world offered. He took her hand again, promising to keep her safe. They exited the plane into the bustling airport, the cacophony of voices and the blitz of artificial lights overwhelming her. Jackie led her gently, his arm around her waist, shielding her from the chaos. He had called ahead, arranging for a private car to take them straight to a quiet, secluded house he had found for them. The drive was a blur of concrete and steel, the city sprawling out before them like a labyrinth. Pemuya clutched Jackie's hand tightly, her eyes wide with wonder and fear. He tried to keep the conversation light, pointing out different sights, but the gravity of their situation weighed heavily on both of them. The house Jackie had found was a small, cozy retreat in the suburbs, surrounded by lush greenery to ease her transition. As they pulled into the driveway, she took a deep breath, her gaze sweeping over the unfamiliar surroundings. It was a stark contrast to the vibrant, living jungle she had known, but there was a peace here that spoke to her soul. Inside, the soft hum of the central heating and the scent of unfamiliar cleaning products filled the air. Pemuya's eyes took in the plush sofa, the shiny kitchen appliances, and the bed piled high with pillows. The first thing she did was getting rid of her dress she had to wear during the flight. Wearing clothes was still too much discomfort for her. Jackie watched her, his heart heavy with the knowledge of the challenges they faced. "Pemuya," he began, his voice gentle. "We need to talk." Her eyes met his, filled with quiet understanding. She knew their lives were about to change again, but she was ready. They sat down on the sofa, Jackie's arm around her bare shoulders, providing comfort and support. "I know this is all new to you," he said. "But we'll face it together, okay?" Pemuya nodded, leaning into him. Her trust in him was unwavering, a beacon in the sea of uncertainty. "I'm tired," she murmured. Jackie nodded, standing up. "Let's get you to bed. But first I'll help you to take a bath." He led her to the bathroom, the warm light casting a comforting glow. Pemuya looked at the bathtub with curiosity, having never seen such a contraption before. Jackie filled it with steaming water and added some bath salts, creating a soothing aroma that filled the room. He helped her in, her skin shivering from the sudden warmth. As she sank into the water, a sigh of relief escaped her lips. Jackie watched her, his heart aching with the weight of his promise. He knew the world outside the jungle would be a challenge for her, but he was determined to make it a safe haven. He took a seat on the edge of the tub, his hand reaching out to touch her cheek gently. "I'm going to visit my relatives tomorrow," he said softly. "I'll have to leave you here for a couple of hours. Is it okay?" Pemuya nodded, her eyes still on the flickering flames of the fireplace. She was getting used to the sounds of the city, but she missed the soothing whispers of the jungle. Jackie leaned in and kissed her forehead. "I'll be quick," he assured her. "And I'll bring back something nice for you." Pemuya's eyes searched his, finding comfort in his warm smile. She nodded, understanding that he had to take care of their future.
