POV Lance “WHAT?!” I cried out. “WHEN?! WHY?! WHO?!” I asked with a slight sulk. "Son, calm down," said my mother. "The wedding's not for another month. You're marrying Princess Macy. Her father hasn't said yes yet, but we're working on it. She's the only one worthy of you.” “But....” “No "buts."” Dad said in a commanding tone. “You get married and the matter is closed.” “Don't you want to ask me what I want?! Not only did you send me to a knight academy instead of an acting academy, but you're going to marry me without my consent?! I already have the love of my life and I'm not going to change it for another! I'm not a little kid anymore and I want to decide my own fate! If you have nothing more to say to me, I'm leaving.” I run out of the hall, hearing the scolding in my wake. I run out of the courtyard, stop at the gate and call Clay. “Hello.” “Hey. Listen, why don't you stop picking me up?” “What's up, babe?” “I just want to be alone, walk to fortrex.” “Did you have a fight with your parents?” “Uh-huh. I'll tell you what happened sometime.” “Please be careful. You didn't bring a weapon.” “Don't worry. Everything's gonna be okay.” I hung up and ran toward the woods. I don't know why I went that way. Maybe because my parents wouldn't think to look there. As luck would have it, it started to rain, a storm even. Salty tears mixed with fresh drops flowed down my cheeks again. "Why doesn't anyone care about my opinion? Why don't my parents care about anything? Why is the world so cruel and unfair? "Mother, father, it's not fair. IT'S NOT FAIR!" I've been running for what seems like hours. My eyes are already sore from crying so much, my legs are stiff, and my stomach is twisted from the pain of leaking. And then I trip over a tree root and fall into a puddle, getting a small gash. I don't even try to get up. I curl up in a ball, trying to dull the pain. Why didn't I go to Fortrex? I'd be in a warm bed with someone I love, someone who could help. I continue to lie there, hearing the sound of engines in the distance. END POV Lance POV Clay After Lance hung up the phone, I immediately realized that he was unlikely to go to fortrex, but decided to leave him alone. The others called and said they were already back and had some not so good news. I quickly make my way back to fortrex and enter the game room. “What's wrong? You said it was urgent.” “Yeahaaaaa....” Macy was upset. “We were at the castle today and my dad said that Lance's parents want me to marry him, but my dad hasn't agreed yet. He wants my opinion on it, but I think the Richmonds will do anything to keep Lance with me.” The whole world has fallen apart...... “We tried so hard to get you two together, and now it's all for naught.” It's the first time I've seen Aaron upset. “What do you mean you tried to bring us together?” “Well...” Macy began, "Merlok told us everything about your illness, your friendship, and more. So, we came up with a plan to get you back together, but things got out of hand when you didn't show up for lunch two months ago. Good thing there was a plan "B" and it worked. Knowing that Lance was about to go into heat, we hid the suppressors and added some stimulant to your drinks...” “WHAT?!” I yelled. “Sorry! We were just so sick of you guys fighting that we didn't know what else to do to get you to stop...” Looks like Aaron was a little pissed. “Thanks.” They obviously expected me to yell at them because they looked at me like I was a retard. “And you're not going to yell at us?” Macy was confused. “What was the point?” I felt a tear roll down my cheek. “I think I know how to save your relationship." She came over to me and put her hand on my shoulder. “I'm listening to you.” We discussed the plan for a few hours, and then I realized that Lance never came. It's raining hard outside. What if the monsters got him? We have to find him. I went to the main hall and asked Ava to track my boyfriend's signal. The signal was somewhere in the woods. We quickly packed up and drove to the coordinates. We got there about ten minutes later. Fortrex was not far from the forest. We didn't walk long, because my ears picked up some strange sounds. I went to the sound and saw Lance curled up in a ball, muttering something to himself. Quickly walking over to him, I sat up and spoke: “Lance?” He slowly straightens up, lifts himself up on his hands and crawls into my lap, resting his head on my legs. I brush his wet hair away from his face and gently kiss his forehead, checking his temperature. “Crap. You're burning up." he mumbled: “Parents are so cruel....” “Even so, what are you doing?” I said, lifting him up in my arms. “Let's go to Fortrex.” I felt his heavy, ragged breathing. “How could you go into the woods in this weather?” I guess Lance heard what I said, because he slapped me lightly on the back with his fist. We went back to the fortrex. I put the guy on the bed and dial the doctor's number. I hear a few beeps and then a voice: “Hello. Can I help you?” “Hi, I have a friend who's sick.” “Does he have a fever?” “Yes. 39 and 7.” “Have you given him antipyretics?” “No, but I don't think he can take his own medicine.” “Alpha, omega or beta?” “Omega.” “The fever could be caused by heat.” “Yes, but he's been in a downpour for a few hours and I'm worried he might have something more serious than a normal fever.” “It's possible. I'll be there soon. “ “Oh, good.” “Cover him with a blanket and see if you can get him some antipyretics.” “I will.” “Goodbye.” "Goodbye” I'm hanging up and going into the room. “What's up? Did you call the doctor?” Macy asked. “Yeah." I said, sitting on the edge of the bed, stroking Lance's head. "I didn't think the news of the wedding would hit him so hard that instead of coming to Fortrex and sitting alone in his room, he decided to run off into the woods.” “He loves you very much." She got up from the chair beside the bed and put her hand on my shoulder. I turned to face her. “And you love him very much. I think if someone told you that, you might run away somewhere where they wouldn't look for you, to be alone.” “Maybe." I turned to Lance, still stroking his head. "What are you doing? - I said in a whisper. END POV Clay.
