Clay's secret/ Part 1

Notes:
Here's a new chapter. I'm still not telling you exactly what's wrong with Clay. You'll find out in the next chapter. Actually, I thought I'd do the reveal in this chapter, but then it wouldn't be interesting. I have to keep the story moving. Morally prepare for the fact that in the next chapter you can expect NC. I'll have to mentally prepare myself to write it. If you find any mistakes, let me know.
April 13.
It's been about a week since he came back. I stopped going to training, stopped participating in battles, which makes me feel useless. Every day, one of the knights tries to cheer me up, but none of them know that the situation is no consolation to anyone. Looking at myself in the mirror, I don't see a valiant knight. More like a zombie. Pale skin, dull eyes and only armor hides my gaunt body. The change of appetite and its almost complete disappearance was noticeable two weeks ago, but I did not pay attention to it, blaming it all on fatigue, suspecting strong health problems I began only when a strong headache and here suspicions were confirmed. Today I looked through the papers, where the results of all the tests are written. And the worst thing is not to find out how bad the situation is, but what is written on the last page: paternity test. I'm scheduled for surgery tomorrow with only a ten percent success rate. I've accepted those risks. What difference does it make when to die: now, quickly and painlessly, or in a couple years, slowly and painfully. Queen Halbert has found the best doctors. If successful, she'll only help pay for half the cost of the treatment, and somehow we'll have to pay for the other half. That's a plus, of course, but where are we going to get half a million? Well, let's hope for a miracle....
Clay heard a knock and, quickly tucking his journal away in his bedside table, climbing under the blanket with his head up, said "come in." The door opened quietly and Lance walked over to the bed.
“Hey, Clay. Why don't you come eat lunch with us at the table today instead of sitting here alone?” He sat down on the edge.
“I don't think that's a good idea.” answered Moorington in a slightly husky voice.
“You've been lying here for a week now, and you haven't gotten out from under the blanket. Why don't you explain what the problem is?” The blue knight only burrowed deeper into the blanket.
Richmond stood up and pulled the blanket off Clay. He flinched in surprise, but didn't say anything.
“Stop moping around” The white knight sat down on the edge of the bed and put his hand on his friend's back, stroking slowly “We know that when you lose the opportunity to fight, you think you're useless and unnecessary, but you're not. You don't even try to listen to us. There are no unsolvable problems.”
“There are if you're in the same position as me." Clay turned on his back and propped himself up on his elbows.
“So explain what the problem is! We'll help.” He moved his hand to his shoulder.
“Can you realize there's nothing you can do to help anymore!” Moorington snapped into a shout.
Lance hesitated a little at first, but then enclosed Clay in a tight hug. The leader could feel his friend's trembling and hear his intermittent breathing with quiet sobs.
“Please tell me what happened!” Richmond said through his tears “My main fear is not to stop being famous, but to lose you! I need you! I love you!”
The blue knight's eyes rounded and he froze, processing the information. He couldn't believe that a white knight could love anyone but himself. Moorington hugged him back as tightly as his condition allowed him.
After sitting like that for about ten minutes, Clay still agreed to go and have lunch with his friends. Lance accompanied him all the way and even gave him a shoulder to lean on because his legs refused to hold him up at all. Everything might have gone well if the leader hadn't felt a severe headache, and after a couple minutes he lost consciousness before reaching the kitchen. The last thing he heard was his friend's scream, and then darkness and nothing else.
