Hyungjun stood with his back against the wall of Seungmin’s house and waited. Day6's “You Make Me” was playing in my headphones and his feet involuntarily stomped to the beat of the drum part on the asphalt. The sun was blinding his eyes and Hyungjun covered them with his hand, enjoying the light through his fingers. A calm breeze ruffled her hair lightly.
When the last chord sounded and Justin Bieber’s ringing voice suddenly filled the headphones, the door of the house opened and Seungmin came out. He was wearing a snow-white shirt that he had once spilled coke on, a mint-green sweatshirt that he had placed on his back and tied the sleeves around his neck, blue ripped jeans and purple sneakers. Seungmin saw Han, smiled and approached him. The latter turned off Bieber and hugged Seungmin, which he almost never did.
– Hey, what happened? You don’t usually hug me. Are you sure you’re Hyungjun? — Oh tried to laugh it off, clasping his hands on Hyungjun’s back.
— Yeah… me. That’s exactly me, — he replied, pulling away. Seungmin’s eyebrows suddenly lowered, his gaze became more focused. He ran his hand over Hyungjun’s cheek and looked into his eyes.
— What’s the matter with you? Have you been crying? — he asked anxiously. Junhan looked away, embarrassed.
– Well… I had to, — he replied quietly.
— Because of what? Parents again?
– No. Seungmin… that’s why I wanted to meet you, — Hyunjun said. — You seem to be the only one who will understand and support me.
—Ah… okay, tell me, — Seungmin said, softening a little. Hyungjun took a deep breath and closed his eyes.
— Seungmin, I have leukemia.
Oh’s eyes widened and his mouth opened slightly. He instantly forgot all the letters that could be used to make words suitable for the situation.
– This is the last stage, — Junhan continued. — If you start treating it, it won’t have any effect — well, the pills will prolong my life and so what? I’m going to die anyway, my parents are just going to spend a lot of money going nowhere. That’s why I came to you, I feel dead at home — my mother is constantly crying, the room is dark, and everyone pretends that I am not…
Hyungjun didn’t have time to finish. Seungmin abruptly closed the distance between them and hugged him again.
– And how long… how long do you have left? — he asked in a strangled voice.
— A… a month…— Hyungjun whispered, feeling a nasty lump in his throat.
– But you’re not going to sit still, are you? — Seungmin asked, putting his hands on his shoulders and pushing him away from himself.
— Of course not! — Junhan exclaimed. His eyes became glassy, and large highlights appeared in them, which suddenly burst out in tears. Seungmin hugged him again and began stroking his back, trying to calm him down.
— Do you have any plans for this month? — he asked softly.
– Of course! I want to do something I’ve been putting off forever for 'later', or something I haven’t had a chance to do. But I don’t want to do it by myself, – replied Junhan, calming down a little.
– Then do you want me to do it with you? — Seungmin asked and stepped away from him. Hyungjun nodded. — Great. So what are you going to do first?
– I think this.
Hyungjun wrapped his arms around Seungmin’s neck and kissed him sharply. This might be something he’d been putting off for “later” since eighth grade. He was afraid of the confession, the reaction to it, and the consequences. But there’s nothing to lose now, right?
– I really like you, Seungmin, — Hyungjun whispered and kissed him again.
