Azriel’s passenger was a man in a black hooded sweatshirt and dark jeans. He gave the address clearly and sat sullenly in the back seat.
- Are you upset about something?
- I’ve got a knife in my pocket, so don’t talk to me.
- No, I was just asking. And about the knife, I’m not afraid. I used to box as a kid.
- Shut up! Or I’ll cut you like that guy!
Asriel drove faster.
- Did you kill someone?
- Yeah, what are you gonna do to me? If you tell anyone, I’ll find you!
- Don’t get mad. It’s not necessary.
- Grrrr. How much longer?
- We’re almost there. Just bear with me for a few minutes.
The cabbie pushed the pedal even harder.
- Is this your first murder?
- Yours will be your eighth.
- Did someone force you to become like this?
- It’s my own decision!
- Then there’s nothing more that can be done to you.
Azriel smiled sadly and continued the ride in silence. After two minutes, he said:
- We made it. Two hundred rubles.
- It’s not going to cost you anything! Be glad you’re alive at all!
Without paying, the man quickly got out of the car and went into the house.
Asriel glumly looked at the passenger and drove off.
