6. Dr. John Watson

Settings
Granada Hooray! Finally someone is getting some attention other than Brett! Let's start with David Burke. He scared me a little. Especially when he laughed. Why does he look so much like a bear? But by the end of the season you begin to get used to him and regret that he was replaced. I'm even ready to forgive him for his fake game in Switzerland. Well, I didn’t believe that Watson had just lost the most dear and important person in his life. I remember Edward Hardwick very well because... how much the hell he pissed me off! How tomatoes will fly at me, and maybe something heavier, but I don’t know who took him for this role! He doesn't know how to play at all! I'll name a couple of things that pissed me off the most. 1. Distinguished client Holmes is beaten by Gruner's men, and Watson, learning this, comes running to him. I can imagine what emotions Watson must have experienced at that moment when he saw his friend in such a deplorable state: fear and concern for the life of a dear person; great happiness and gratitude to God that everything worked out; anger and hatred towards the people who did this; and in the end, anger at himself and a feeling of guilt - how could he leave his friend alone, knowing that he was in danger? That’s what the doctor felt. I honestly don’t understand what Hardwick showed on his face?! With some kind of hatred he looked at Sherlock, who lies in front of you on the verge of death! As if he wants to finish him off! Bus at the same time his face says “twenty-five again... I’m bored!”».  2. The end of Charles Augustus Milverton. Book: Holmes is going to rob Milverton, Watson dissuades him and threatens to turn him in to the police if he does not take him with him. Series: Watson several times calls on Sherlock to come to his senses and think. And then he utters a phrase with which he destroys his image and kills me. Just think about the words: «You have power, you don’t need intelligence». Don't rush, think. Have you thought? And now the screenwriters are out of their minds?! Are you trying to say that the great Sherlock Holmes, the best private detective, is stupid?! Are you stunned?! I can barely keep myself from saying something worse! And these are only 2 cases. For more details, read the article “Watsongad from Granada”. The link will be below in the comments to the chapter.  BBC Martin Freeman coped with this role much better than Edward. But I can hardly call the relationship between John and Sherlock friendship. More of a camaraderie. strong camaraderie. The doctor always wants to get away from Holmes's company. And Watson can be understood. Not everyone can get along with such a highly active sociopath. For this he gets respect and 1 point, well done. The only thing that really annoyed me was that from the very first episode, anyone who saw them together considered it their duty to confidently tell them that they were a couple. The question arises: What the hell?! For what?! USSR Vitaly Solomin. Well, it's just a tower. What can I say? Solomin and Livanov were very friendly in life and were family friends. This can be seen in the film as well. There is chemistry between them. Vasily Livanov says about their duet this way: «You can play love with some looks, touches. How to play friendship? it cannot be played, it is simply impossible. if there is friendship, then the viewer will believe and everything will work out, but if not, then it will look implausible». I really like that Watson is not a decoration here. He has his own point of view and does not follow Holmes like a dog, agreeing with him in everything. They are completely different people with dissimilar views on this or that phenomenon, but they respect each other’s opinions, perfectly complementing each other. They support each other in difficult times, they have something to talk about and laugh at. It’s even nice for them to just be silent in each other’s company. This is the case when it is customary to say “one family” and it’s amazing! Another important distinguishing feature is intelligence. Yes, yes, Soviet John is really very smart and quick-witted. The creators did not have the goal of making Sherlock a genius and everyone around him absolutely stupid. Here the intelligent, educated doctor admires the very high intelligence of his friend, which doubles the latter’s abilities. Do you agree, it’s also better? Images become more voluminous and therefore interesting.  In terms of acting, there is nothing more to say. I have already said that at the Reichenbach Falls I cried with the doctor. I felt the same. Even when the detective is not around, we don’t want to rewind and return to him, we savor every moment with Solomin as well as Livanov. Without hesitation for a second, I will give 2 points to Vitaly Solomin. May his memory be blessed. Result: USSR 12+2=14 points Granada 6+0=6 points BBC 6+1=7 points
