Chapter 7

Settings
I woke up to someone stroking my head. Slowly opening my eyes, I saw Edward's face. – Good morning, dear, – the man smiled. – Morning, – I smiled. – You are in my house and this is your room. All the necessary things and clothes are in the closet and bathroom. You can clean yourself up and then go down to the first floor for breakfast. How are you doing? – Surprisingly, everything is fine, – I replied, listening to my feelings. – The doctor gave you an IV to get the chemistry out of your body. The man looked me straight in the eye and smiled. In his eyes, I saw the whole palette of emotions: tenderness, joy, sadness and pain. I didn't know what to do next, what to say. Suddenly, the man got out of bed, still looking at me. I had a lot of questions that I wanted to know the answers to. – I'll go, and you change your clothes. I'm waiting for you at breakfast. – OK. The man left the room, and I continued to stare at the closed door. Collapsing onto the pillows, I covered my face with my hands and screamed. I just couldn't believe I'd found my father. It's a pity that Mom didn't live to see this moment... Getting out of bed, I went to the closet and opened the doors. To my surprise, the closet was completely filled with different clothes. Taking out light jeans and a white shirt, I happily walked into the bathroom. After taking a quick shower, I felt much better. After changing my clothes, I looked at my reflection. The clothes fit me perfectly. Apparently, my father had thoroughly prepared for my appearance in the house. His lips were sore, and there was a wound on his lower lip. Clenching my hands into fists, I pushed unnecessary thoughts out of my head. After drying my hair, I combed it and left it loose. Also in the bathroom, I found a makeup bag with all the necessary cosmetics. After making a light makeup, I returned to the room. When I went to the closet, I noticed several pairs of shoes, boots and sneakers downstairs. Choosing white sneakers, I put them on and left the room. In the hallway, I met a woman in a maid's uniform. – Miss, I'll take you to breakfast, – the woman smiled. – Thanks. We went down to the first floor and found ourselves in a large hall. The woman led me deeper into the house, and we found ourselves in a spacious room. My father was sitting at the table reading a newspaper, but when he heard that we had come, he put it down and looked at me. – Have a seat, – Hamilton smiled. I sat down at the other end of the table and looked at the appliances in front of me. A minute later, several women appeared in the hall with trays, and they set the table. My stomach cramped. I haven't eaten anything since yesterday. After putting food on my plate, I picked up a fork and began to eat. I tried to take my time, but it was frankly bad. Hunger has completely taken over me. Out of the corner of my eye, I noticed that Edward was looking at me the whole time. Blushing, I raised my head and looked at my new parent. – It's all right, dear, I understand that you haven't eaten anything for a long time. Eat up, – the mafia smiled. Blushing even more, I continued to eat. Five minutes later, I leaned back in my chair and looked at the man. – You probably have a lot of questions. – Yes, I really want to get answers to them. – If you're done eating, then we can go to my office and talk. - OK. The man put down the cutlery and, getting up, went to the exit. Following my father's example, I followed my parent. We went up to the second floor and, after making several turns along the corridors, stopped at the right door. Hamilton opened the door and let me into the office. When I entered the room, I looked around. The office was not much different from Hiddleston's office. Clenching my hands into fists, I tried not to remember yesterday. I sat down in the chair opposite my father's desk and looked at the man. – So, I think I'll start from the beginning. Many years ago, your mother was a secret agent of MI-6 and she was given the task to kill me. She followed me for a long time and we met several times, as if by chance. I liked your mother at first sight, and I decided not to delay and offered her a relationship. She agreed and since then we have been in close contact, but I did not know that she was doing the task and who she really was. One evening, she raided my house. A lot of my people were killed or imprisoned. Your mother couldn't kill me and let me go. That day, I confessed my feelings to her. I saw and felt that they were mutual. I left the country for a while and lay low to let things settle down. When I got back to London, I met your mother and we spent some wonderful nights. And apparently they were enough for you to appear, – the man smiled broadly, as if remembering, – I had some problems with the mafia boss, and I had to leave, since many wanted me dead. Before I left, your mother and I signed, and I left. I tried several times to go back and find your mother, but it was too dangerous. I was being hunted, I couldn't risk her safety. The only right decision was to stay away from her. I watched her from afar. I found out that she had left the Secret Service and that she was pregnant. I knew it was my child. So many times I wanted to go up and talk to her, hug her, because I was so close and far at the same time. But he couldn't. I couldn't let the only thing that was truly dear to me be taken away from me. – Why did you decide only now? – I whispered, feeling tears running down my cheeks. – One day, I met your mother on your birthday. You were five. She was very angry with me and asked me not to appear in her life anymore. And I left. I did what she asked. And that was the biggest mistake of my life. I still can't forgive myself for that. From that moment on, I immersed myself in my work, building connections and business. All this time, I kept watching you grow up. All this time, I was there. And then on your tenth birthday, she was hit by a car. I found out about it when I was on the other side of the world. I was very angry and heartbroken. My world seemed to have gone out, collapsed. I flew in as soon as I could and tried to find you right away. But, it's like you disappeared, disappeared. The only thing I've been able to find out is that you've been adopted. But there was no information about it, who adopted you and where you are. Nothing. I've been trying to find you for years, but it's been in vain. You've been hidden very well. Sobbing, I put my hand over my mouth. My head was spinning and my nose stopped breathing. Memories from ten years ago flashed before my eyes. Clenching my hands into fists, I bit my lower lip to keep from screaming out loud. The death of my mother hit my child's psyche very hard, which caused me to visit psychologists for several years afterwards. Because I had nightmares at night, and I experienced the same moment every night. The moment of my mother's death is in my arms. – I found you by accident. One day, I visited "The Golden Tree" and you were there. That was about a year ago. I didn't know then that you were my daughter. But, you were a copy of your mother. I couldn't believe my eyes. Since then, I've been following you and discovered that you're the adopted daughter of the Kravts family. And just recently, I talked to John. He told me where and how you came from. Then all the pieces of the puzzle fit into one big picture. You were my daughter, whom I lost for so many years. I found out that you went down a dark path. I've heard a lot about your business and how you've been giving Hiddleston a hard time. Then I found you and ordered a brooch from you. You completed the task and that's when I decided to act, asking you to give me the letter. I didn't tell you about it personally because I was afraid you wouldn't believe me. You'll think that I decided to make fun of you or something. That's why I decided to give you time to think about it and find out for yourself. I was hoping that you would call me that evening, but apparently fate had its own plans.… I sat and cried silently. My brain was diligently analyzing the information I had heard. I looked straight into my father's eyes and grinned through my tears. – I'm being hunted. One of Tom's killers was able to find me and, – I clenched my fists and swallowed. – How did you find me? – Alexander called me. He said you were missing, and I immediately realized that it was Hiddleston's doing. You know that when the boss himself arranges a hunt, everyone will know about it instantly. – Kravts. I have to call him! He must be very worried! – I whispered. – He should be here soon, – Hamilton smiled. – Really? Thank you. But what should I do? I don't want to marry Hiddleston! – I started crying again. – Kristina. I don't want you to marry him either. But... – But what?! – I hissed. – You have no other choice, – the man said sadly. – Why?! – I cried out. – Be quiet. The fact is that Hiddleston's father was my best friend, despite the significant age difference. He and I ruled the mafia of London. And on this occasion, we signed an agreement with him that if I had a daughter, she would become Tom's wife. This practice is very common in mafia families, you know. Shocked, looking at Hamilton, I abruptly got up from my chair. – I hate it! – I shouted. – I don't want to marry him! I hate him! And moreover, he wants to kill me! Getting up from the table, Edward came over to me and hugged me. Burying my face in my father's shoulder, I began to cry. Hamilton was stroking my back. – Everything will be fine. I will always be there for you and I won't let anyone hurt you. To nobody. I promise. Hugging my father tighter, I gradually began to calm down. – Do you want me to show you the house? – Come on. Taking my hand, my father gave me a tour of the house. And I, as a little girl, walked and looked at the luxurious interior of the estate. The building was two storeys high with living rooms on the second floor and a large living room and library on the ground floor. At lunch, I decided to rest a little and went to my room. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door, and Alexander entered the room. – Alex! – I screamed and ran to hug my friend. – Kristina, – Kravts smiled, hugging me and circling the room. – Sorry, I wasn't busy much. How are you?! Is everything okay?! – Yes, everything is fine now, – I smiled, looking into my brother's eyes. – Let's sit down and I'll tell you everything. – Come on. Sitting on my bed, I began to recount everything I had learned today and what had happened to me at Hiddleston's house. Kravts was shocked, but he listened to me in silence, holding my hand and stroking my back. – In a month or so, I have to marry Hiddleston, – I smiled sadly. – But... – But I have no choice. If I try to escape, I think he's going to kill me, you and Dad. Therefore, I will have to accept my fate, – I whispered, smiling tightly. – Darling, – Alex hugged me. – If he hurts you, I'll personally shoot him. Just say the word! – Alexander! – No one will dare to offend my little sister! – Thank you, – I whispered, smiling. As the conversation dragged on, we skipped lunch. Alexander stayed with us and went home after dinner, promising to call. After talking with my father a little more, I went to my room to sleep. After changing into my pajamas, I lay down on the bed and closed my eyes. Today, I got all the answers to the questions that have been bothering me for many years. I thought I would hate my father after I found out the truth, but I couldn't. I can't hate him. He's my father and he didn't know this was going to happen. I don't hold a grudge against him. Of course, it was very painful for me to think that I would soon become Hiddleston's wife. I could run away and live somewhere in the wilderness, but... So, I have lost a lot in so many years and I do not want to destroy the fragile world that I have found now.
