Chapter 12: Operation Ha Ha Ha
November 25, 2023 at 6:13 AM
Oscar woke up the next morning to the sound of his alarm clock, which kept him from sleeping every morning. Waking up sleepy on the floor and barely getting to his feet, he took the alarm clock from the bedside table and threw it through the crack in the window, thereby making a hole. Then he saw on the floor where the tape was lying, and Rocket and Silver were standing motionless, he immediately remembered what he wanted to do this morning, or rather yesterday, before the thunderstorm began. And now in the morning the sunny weather had already begun and he was delighted and began to do what he wanted to do yesterday. Taking Silver, a rocket and tape, he patched the rocket to the hedgehog's back and ran outside, launching the rocket with the toy, shouting along the way:
— WELL, GAGARIN, LET'S GO-O-O!!! — he shouted, sliding down the railing and sitting on it.
As he ran outside through the emergency exit, Andrew and Stephanie, who were hiding in the kitchen at the time, secretly watched and began looking for the dog to temporarily put it through another exit into the yard, according to Sonic's further plan. Hurricane was lying on the sofa in the hallway at that time, where Dennis usually sat in front of the TV.
— Here he is. It lies where dad usually watches TV. — Stephanie said when she saw the Rottweiler.
— Isn’t dad himself visible? — Gerald asked hopefully, hiding in Andrew's shirt pocket. In response, he received only a negative shake of his head.
— Don’t worry, you’ll get to your owner. — the old man assured, after which he took out a walkie-talkie. — This is the Alpha group. The object is in place, there is no one else nearby.
— Great! Please report further if you notice anything. — Sonic’s voice came from the speaker, after which he turned off. Sonic and Shadow themselves were in Oscar's room all this time and were waiting for the right moment. A toy fishing rod with legs from some doll removed the ventilation grill and, together with the spring, went through the pipe. After going through several turns, they found a passage that led to the front door onto the street. Approaching the place where the lamp was, they removed it and the toy with a spool of thread instead of a head hung on a hook and began to swing to reach the bell.
— Only on signal! — Shadow said, looking at the mutant toys that were already ready to start. They planned to use a wind-up mouse to lure Hurricane out into the street, knowing how much he loves to chase everything that moves. Snake Eyes, with the bodies of Mario and Luingi, kept the wind-up mouse with him for now and wound it up more so that it would have enough time to run around. When the winding key would not turn any further, he began to wait to release the mouse.
A springy toy with a coil instead of a head at that time swung with all its might and at one moment pressed the bell, which was the signal for the toys.
— GO!!! — Shadow shouted and Snake Eyes let go of the mouse, after which it moved off.
Hurricane heard something making noise around him and immediately woke up. I saw that a clockwork mouse was driving around the sofa on its own and, like a cat, he chased after it. The mouse was cunning and first drove the dog with her to the kitchen, began to run under chairs and other places, only she could get in, and Hurricane, running after her, only sometimes stumbled, and sometimes knocked all the things out of the way. The mouse even went straight to the dead end in the form of a corner, where mother’s favorite vase stood, and then at the corner it sharply turned to the left. The dog did not have time to turn around like that and, when turning, accidentally touched the stand with a vase, after which it fell and broke.
Andrew and Stephanie did not interfere yet and just laughed at what they saw. When the wind-up mouse began to run out of power, which she felt at the last moment, she immediately went to the exit. Stephanie managed to run to the door and open it. A toy with a reel instead of a head took the mouse in his hand, and then a fishing rod with doll legs pulled them back up. Hurricane jumped at the exit, but did not have time to catch them, and Stephanie closed the door tightly. At that moment her mother came down.
— What happened, Stephanie?
— He's a bad dog. He made a mess in the kitchen and I had to throw him outside. — Stephanie explained.
— Really? — she panicked and ran into the kitchen. The destruction in the kitchen made her worry, but what scared her most was her favorite broken vase. — MY VASE!!!
— I am so sorry! — Andrew said, pretending that nothing was happening and the dog was just going crazy.
— Isn’t it time for you to go to your place... dad?!... — said Karen, emphasizing the last word with obvious sarcasm.
— Why should I leave? I just arrived. — the toymaker answered and continued to drink his coffee, ignoring the intonation. The woman did not like this answer and continued to remove the fragments, muttering something under her breath. Having finished cleaning, she left the kitchen.
— The path is clear, guys. You can go. — Andrew said into the radio, making sure that no one was nearby.
— I understand you! — Saluting, Sonic answers and turns off the radio. After which he sits on a skateboard, along with Shadow and the rest of the mutant toys. Using a skateboard as transport, they go down to the first floor, pick up Gerald with them and, driving up to the emergency exit, climb through the dog door on the large door.
They found themselves in a backyard that somewhat resembled a garden, with a toilet to the right of two trees, somewhat reminiscent of a warehouse or container for storing tools rather than a place for an outdoor toilet. Inside, as you might guess, Oscar was muttering something under his breath until he shouted:
— Mom, where are the matches? A! Here they are! No need!
A reel on a spring, a fishing rod and a wind-up mouse went down the drainpipe following their friends and everyone was assembled.
— Everyone is in place! — Shadow commands and the toys scatter somewhere in the garden. Shadow himself lay down next to the take-off pad in the form of an empty five-liter bottle and a small square board on top, also wrapped with tape, over which Silver with the rocket, according to plan, was still standing in place. And Sonic stood next to the trash can and immediately lay down on the ground, although there were no people nearby yet. But still, Oscar at that moment came out of the warehouse with tools.
— Yuri, the systems are functioning normally. Allow launch! — Oscar said on the way through the matchbox, imagining a walkie-talkie instead of the box. Suddenly he noticed a black and scarlet hedgehog on the ground, next to the runway. — Hey! How did you get here? — he asked the toy, picking it up and without waiting for an answer, he put it on the picnic stove, leaving one extra match for the toy hedgehog under his armpit. — Okay. After the launch we will have a picnic with you.
— “Don’t even dream!” — Smiling, Shadow had a thought spinning in his head, which he wanted to say out loud, but restrained himself.
— Gagarin, is there permission to launch? — Oscar continues to introduce the walkie-talkie, takes out one match and lights it on the box. — I give you permission! The launch will take place in ten seconds. Start the report! — as soon as Oscar was preparing to lecture from ten to one, he just did not have time to say the word “Ten” when he heard someone’s voice:
— Hands up, guy! — Oskar turned towards the sound from what he heard and noticed that the voice came from another toy hedgehog, next to the trash can. — This planet is too small for you and me, Robotnik!
— What? — Oscar didn’t understand, he went up to the blue one, threw the hot match onto the sand and took the toy in his hands.
— I am the fastest creature on Mobius. — said the imitator of Sonic’s speech, since judging by his face, he was still pretending not to be alive and did not say anything himself.
— He's broken. — the boy said out loud and was about to throw Sonic in the trash when he heard another unexpected phrase:
— Who broken, master brokenter? — Oscar looked at the back of the toy, and the ring with the thread was not taut, but for some reason the speech imitator inside him still said: — Yeah, yeah. I'm turning to you, Oscar Omarov! — Hearing that the toy called his first and last name, he was slightly frightened and looked in surprise at the face, which was still not alive, but remained the same. — We don’t like being blown up, broken or torn to pieces.
— W-w-w-we?... — Oscar said, almost stuttering, and the speech imitator continued to repeat:
— Oh yeah! Your toys!
Suddenly, Shadow was the first to come to life, rising from the stove. Oscar drew attention to him, and the black-scarlet one, smiling, extended his arms to his sides and shouted:
— DADDY CARLO, I AM A REAL BOY!!!
Oscar got scared and fell to the ground, still holding Sonic in his hands and began to crawl away from him, as if he had seen the demon of Hell. At that moment, a torn Princess Peach doll and a red car, which was buried under a sand mountain, came out of the sandbox. From a muddy puddle that had not dried out for a long time and which had not been pumped out for a long time, two large toy soldiers crawled out, one of whom was headless and the other without arms. Following them, the clockwork mouse emerged, and from under Hurricane’s bowl came out a toy chao, who, judging by his face, was very stern and angry with the boy.
— Please don't touch me! Don't hurt me! — Oskar begged for mercy, breathing nervously.
— Hurt? We don't want to hurt you. We just want to play with you, just like you played with us. — Shadow said, approaching the boy among the crowd of mutant toys. Oscar crawled straight to the runway, where Silver stood with the rocket, and when he accidentally touched it with his back, Silver was the next to come to life and, stretching out his arms, spoke in a scary voice:
— But I want to hurt you!
Oscar screamed at the top of his lungs and rose from the ground to his feet, when suddenly something grabbed his right leg. The bully tried to resist and free himself from the mitten, instead of the jack in the snuff box, who was pulling behind him a skateboard with dolls Stephanie and Gerald.
All the toys surrounded the boy and the latter did not know what to do now in a hopeless situation, and at that moment the simulator of Sonic’s voice spoke again:
— From now on, Oscar, you will take care of your toys. And if not, then we will find out everything and don’t know what we will do with you. But we promise it will be worse than when you abused us all. We are toys. We see everything and always. — at the last phrase, Sonic’s head independently rotated three hundred and sixty degrees to the right and Oscar’s hands began to tremble. After that, Sonic was the last one to come to life and said with anger on his face: — So be a good boy!
And the bully, jumping quickly from one foot to the other, screams heart-rendingly into the sky in fear, after which he throws Sonic to the ground, and he himself jumps over the circle of toys and runs into the house. As soon as he ran into the house, he was immediately greeted by Stephanie.
— Oscar-Oscar, what's the matter? — she pretended to know nothing.
— TOYS!!! THEY ARE ALL ALIVE!!! — he shouted in panic, took his sister’s hand and led her behind him to show her. — LOOK!!!
But as soon as Oscar returned to show his sister the living toys, they were nowhere to be found. Even Silver with the rocket disappeared somewhere. In fact, Stephanie, of course, believed him, because she herself knew about it yesterday, but according to the plan, she began to pretend that she knew nothing and pretended to suspect that Oscar was allegedly playing too much and was fantasizing, after which she looked sternly and distrustfully into his eyes. The toys themselves all hid at once at that moment so that no one could see them at all.
— So where? — she asked him about toys.
— I'M TELLING YOU EXACTLY! THEY WERE HERE! AND ALL ARE ALIVE! — the bully continued to shout, running all over the yard in search of toys.
— Are you sure everything is okay? — the girl asked, still pretending that she didn’t know anything and looking at her brother as if he were crazy.
— THEY WERE HERE FIVE MINUTES AGO! I'M NOT CRAZY, I ACTUALLY SEEN THEM!!! — Oscar assured, but seeing that his sister did not believe him, he rushed into the house in search of his parents.
— Oscar, are you okay? — Dennis asked worriedly when his son dragged him into the yard, saying that the toys were alive.
The boy looked at his sister, hoping that she would support him, but this did not happen. Omarov looked at him like he was crazy. In the end, Oscar freaked out and ran to his room. Dennis decided it wouldn't hurt to take him to a specialist.
— Dad, look! — Stephanie said and pointed to the mountain of sand next to which the toy lay. Coming closer, the man could not believe his eyes.
— Gerald... — Danny muttered and took the childhood toy in his hands. — B-but... Karen said you were lost! How did you get here?
— He was with Oscar all this time. — Andrew stood on the threshold of the house, who heard everything. — Your wife said that he was lost, and she gave Gerald to Oscar. Forgive me, son, but she didn’t like it when you played with him. I thought you were too old.
— D-dad, h-how are you f-feeling? — Omarov asked stuttering, looking at his father. Even though his grandfather began to behave completely differently, he was still afraid of him.
— It couldn't be better. — the old man answered, after which he approached his son. — Look, Danny, I'm sorry about everything. I acted like a complete idiot. After the collapse of the Union, children began to be interested in foreign toys, but mine lost interest. You know that making wooden toys was the work of my whole life... Therefore, I could not come to terms with the changes and started drinking... I realized that I had become useless to anyone...
After listening to his father, Dennis was shocked. He always knew that wooden toys had been his family's business for many years, but he didn't think that the change of generations would affect him so much. It simply did not occur to him that this could be a strong longing for the distant times of youth, and not early senile insanity. Looking at the toy in his hands and at his parent, Danny hugged him, barely holding back his tears. He was glad that dad came to his senses and had already forgiven him for everything that happened. Gerald perked up for a second when he saw Stephanie wink at him, and he winked back at her, smiling.
Sonic, Shadow and Silver, who were hiding in the bushes, looking at Andrew hugging his adult son, imagined for a minute instead of them David and Ivan, who would also hug, holding one of them instead of Gerald. Together, looking at this, they understood the essence of who they were playing for and for how long. Shadow was finally able to understand the words Sonic said back during David’s birthday:
— He will never throw any of us away, because he loves us all individually and values each of us. After all, now we are not talking about us, toys, but about David. After all, it doesn’t matter which of us plays for and most importantly how often he plays. The main thing is that he always has us all at hand when he needs us. After all, this is what we are all made for. — Sonic’s voice sounded in the black-scarlet’s head, after which he looked at Silver.
— Silver! — he turned to him and, sighing heavily, extended his hand to him. — I'm sorry!
— Shadow, I forgave you for everything a long time ago. — Silver answers him, smiling and shakes his hand.
