Notes:
There we go, the «Extra» chapter with the following guest stars, Manfred Reynolds (AKA Red) and his wife Scarlett, who live in the town of Greenwich.
[Note: Greenwich is the real life town.]
It was a brisk summer evening in the quaint town of Clayton, London. The sun had begun its descent, casting a warm golden hue upon the picturesque houses and cobblestone streets. Amongst these streets, you could find a trio of lifelong friends — Robin, Doi, and Drake.
On this particular evening, they found themselves strolling along the outskirts of town, the familiar sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves accompanying their footsteps. The conversation meandered from life's mysteries to the mundane, as they enjoyed the simple pleasure of each other's company.
“Do you guys remember the Reynolds family?” Robin asked Drake, breaking the comfortable silence. “I heard they moved to Greenwich.”
Drake nodded, a smile playing on his lips. “Ah, yes! Red and Scarlett, right? It's been a little while since we last saw them. I wonder how they've been doing.”
Curiosity piqued, Doi interjected, “You know, Red is going to be a father soon. Just imagine, a little bundle of joy gracing their lives.”
The mention of Red's impending fatherhood intrigued the trio, filling their minds with excitement and wonder. They decided it was high time to pay their old friends a visit.
With newfound determination, they adjusted their path, veering towards Greenwich. As they strode through the vibrant streets, they noticed the vibrant floral bouquets and welcoming decorations adorning the houses, heralding the arrival of summer.
After a few minutes of walking, their steps took them to a small cul-de-sac. At the end of the lane, embraced by a white picket fence, they spotted the picturesque house of the Reynolds family. The Victorian-style house was nestled amidst a blooming garden, thriving with roses of various hues.
“Do you think they're home?” Doi pondered aloud, his voice sounded childishly naïve. Robin patted his friend on the back and grinned. “There's only one way to find out.”
Drake rolled his eyes playfully, “Oh, just look at how self-confident our Robin is!”
With a mixture of excitement and anxiety, the trio marched up the cobblestone pathway, Robin taking the lead. The doorbell chimed with a melodious tune, echoing through the air.
Seconds passed, and just as they began contemplating their next course of action, the door creaked open, revealing a slightly round, red-furred, and relatively athletically built figure framed by the doorway.
“Robin, Doi, Drake! Is that really you?” Red exclaimed, his eyes widening in surprise. A wide smile graced his face, accentuating his cheery personality.
“It's been too long, Manfred!” Robin enveloped Red in a bear hug, laughter bubbling between them. Doi and Drake exchanged warm greetings, their faces beaming with happiness.
As they stepped inside the inviting abode, the interior exuded warmth and a welcoming aura. The walls were adorned with cheerful artwork and family photographs, capturing precious memories frozen in time. The subtle aroma of freshly baked cookies wafted through the air, making their mouths water.
Red, rubbing his slightly big, round fuzzy tummy, chuckled. “Don't mind it this much,” he motioned to his burgeoning belly. “Little Richie here seems eager to make his grand entrance.”
Drake's eyes widened, his disbelief giving way to genuine astonishment. “Red, congratulations! That's incredible news!”
A wave of joy washed over them as they settled in, catching up on the years that had slipped by. Stories of adventures and misadventures filled the air, laughter and camaraderie the soundtrack to their reunion.
Scarlett entered the room, a plate of freshly baked cookies in her paws, a mischievous glint in her eyes. She noticed Doi and Robin eyeing the plate with anticipation, their mouths watering in anticipation of the sweet treats.
“Doi, Robin, Drake! I made you some chocolate chip cookies,” Scarlett said, a playful smile dancing on her lips. “And I see you couldn't wait for me to offer them.”
Doi and Robin exchanged mock guilty glances before bursting into laughter. They quickly reached for the cookies, not leaving a single one for Drake, who watched with mock disappointment.
“Hey, what about me?” Drake protested, giving them an exaggerated pout.
Scarlett chuckled and approached Drake, ruffling his hair affectionately. “Don't worry, Drake. I saved some just for you.”
With a sly smile, she pulled out a hidden stash of cookies from behind her back, eliciting a surprised gasp from Drake.
“Wow, thank you, Mrs. Reynolds!” Drake exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with gratitude. He eagerly joined the others, savoring the delicious cookies and indulging in the warmth of the moment.
As they enjoyed their treats, Red joined the conversation, sharing his thoughts on impending fatherhood. Scarlett listened attentively, her eyes filled with adoration and admiration for her partner.
With a gentle touch, she stroked Red's big red-furred tummy with her chocolate-brown fur-covered mitten-like paw. “You're going to be an amazing father, Red,” she whispered, her voice filled with love and excitement.
The room buzzed with laughter and heartfelt conversations, the bonds of friendship weaving tighter with each passing moment. It was a reunion filled with joy, happiness, and the anticipation of a new life about to join their cherished circle.
As the evening wore on, they exchanged stories, shared dreams, and reminisced about the adventures they had embarked on together. Time seemed to stand still, allowing them to bask in the warmth of friendship and the comfort of cherished memories.
As the group finished eating the cookies, Drake exclaimed, “Red, listen! How about I'll make you some spicy fried chicken? And I'll make sure it'll be so crispy!”
Red's eyes brightened at the mention of spicy fried chicken, his mouth watering at the thought. He glanced at Scarlett, who nodded with a playful smile.
“That sounds amazing, Drake!” Red exclaimed, his excitement evident. “I'd love to taste your crispy, spicy masterpiece.”
Drake beamed, his culinary skills well-known amongst the group. He quickly set to work, gathering the necessary ingredients and prepping the kitchen for his culinary creation.
As he seasoned the chicken with an array of spices, the tantalizing aroma filled the air, teasing everyone's senses. Robin and Doi watched with anticipation, eager to taste Drake's renowned dish.
Drake meticulously coated each chicken leg with a blend of seasoned flour, ensuring the spices clung to the meat, promising a burst of flavor with every bite. His hands moved with practiced grace, dipping the chicken into a buttermilk bath before giving them one final roll in the flour mixture.
Meanwhile, the oil in the deep fryer reached the perfect temperature, crackling and sizzling in anticipation. Drake carefully lowered each chicken leg into the hot oil, the golden bubbles enveloping the meat, sealing in its succulence.
The scent of the spices intensified as the chicken legs crisped and turned a beautiful, golden brown. The kitchen became a symphony of sizzling oil and the clattering of utensils, with Drake's focused determination leading the culinary orchestra.
Occasionally, he would skillfully turn the chicken, ensuring an even cook and a crispy exterior. The anticipation grew tangible as the fragrance filled the room, drawing the attention of the entire household.
Minutes later, Drake carefully lifted the chicken legs out of the fryer onto a wire rack, allowing excess oil to drain away. The sizzling ceased, but the enticing aroma lingered, enticing mouths to water.
With a flourish, Drake presented the platter of crispy and spicy fried chicken legs, their golden hues and tantalizing spices promising an explosion of taste. The enticing smell filled the room, causing everyone's mouths to water.
“Doi, Robin, dig in!” Drake announced, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. “And, of course, Red and Mrs. Reynolds, this is specially made for you two!”
They gathered around the table, eagerly grabbing a piece of the crispy chicken. With each bite, their taste buds erupted with flavors — a medley of spices, perfectly balanced and absolutely delicious.
Red couldn't help but let out a delighted moan as he savored the first bite. “Drake, this is incredible!” he exclaimed between mouthfuls. “You've truly outdone yourself.”
Doi and Robin expressed their approval with nods and satisfied smiles, their plates quickly emptying as they devoured the mouthwatering chicken. It was a culinary triumph, a testament to Drake's talent and passion for cooking.
“Leave some for me!” Scarlett said, laughing as she looked at the others chowing down the meal. Red passed his wife some legs, making her eyes wide in excitement.
Scarlett took a bite of the crispy chicken, her eyes lighting up with delight. She chewed slowly, savoring the explosion of flavors that danced on her taste buds. Her delighted expression was mirrored by the others, their faces filled with satisfaction.
As they enjoyed the delicious meal, the conversation flowed effortlessly. They reminisced about their shared experiences, from childhood antics to recent escapades. Laughter filled the air, intermingling with the lingering aroma of spices and the clatter of utensils.
Time seemed to slip away as they indulged in the warmth of friendship and the pleasure of good food. They shared stories, dreams, and hopes for the future. It was a night filled with love, joy, and the comfort of being surrounded by cherished friends.
As they finished the last piece of chicken, they leaned back in their chairs, their bellies full and spirits uplifted. The room was filled with contented sighs, and smiles adorned their faces.
“Do you remember when we used to have picnics in the meadow?” Robin asked, breaking the blissful silence. “Those were simpler times, but full of laughter and happiness.”
Drake nodded, a wistful smile tugging at his lips. “Yes, those were special moments. We should plan a picnic soon, relive those memories and create new ones. Red, Mrs. Reynolds, you'll be our special guests! And, probably, your little Richie too.”
The idea sparked excitement in each of them, the prospect of spending more time together in the great outdoors enchanting their hearts. They began tossing around ideas for the perfect picnic spot, suggesting picturesque locations and recalling their favorite moments from past adventures.
As the evening drew to a close, they said their goodbyes with promises to stay connected and create more memories. The bond shared by Robin, Doi, Drake, Red, and Scarlett was unbreakable, their friendship a constant source of joy and support in their lives.
With hearts full and spirits high, the trio bid farewell and made their way back to Clayton. The moon, now shining brightly in the sky, guided their journey, casting a gentle glow upon the cobblestone streets. The familiar sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves accompanied their footsteps, whispering tales of everlasting friendship and the magic of reunions.
