Chapter 4

It was dark all around, so Gregory had to get out his flashlight. There were a lot of garbage bags everywhere, as well as pieces of rebar, concrete slabs, and much of what the boy did not even understand. The only object he knew was Chick's chicken, or rather what was left of it, which was lying on the side, leaning against the wall. The animatronic looked terrible: her body was cracked, there were deep holes everywhere, there was almost no shell on her left arm, and the worst thing was her face, which now had no beak, and a hole gaped instead. The chicken sat motionless: there were no signs of life in its lifeless eyes, but there was something else that even Gregory could see-it was pain. The pain of being hurt by her best friend. Gregory still has the moment before his eyes when the bear kicked the chicken in the face with all his might, sending it back to death under the press. Freddy. How could Freddy do that? What happened to him? It wasn't the friendly teddy bear that helped Gregory leave the Pizza Place before closing. No, it was a completely different animatronic, but Gregory still does not know what to call him correctly: the boy has not yet managed to understand anything, everything happened too quickly. And now he has no desire to figure it all out. Now that Gregory has lost his last ally in this complex, he must look for a way out of this building more than ever, trying not to get caught by mad Freddy, and even more scary, that strange rabbit. Gregory didn't even think about the other animatronics, but for some reason it seemed to him that they were now, too, like Chika somewhere in this building, broken. But about them later. For Gregory, the first thing now is to get out of this sewer back to the complex, and then look for a way out of the pizzeria. But as soon as the boy started trying to get out from behind the garbage bags, he saw that the previously broken chicken began to move. There was a terrible creaking sound coming from her, mixed with static, and she was twitching as if in a fit. Gregory wanted to run away from her, but something stopped him again. He suddenly felt sorry for the poor animatronic, and despite his common sense, he went straight to her. As he got closer, he saw that some wires sparkled inside the animatronic, the tubes disconnected, and cracks appeared on the endo skeleton. For some reason, looking at the broken chicken, Gregory wanted to help her: but what could he do – it all looked so difficult. But Gregory decided to at least try. After all, he was a pretty smart kid: it might turn out that way. The boy began to connect the wires that had come off to their places, but some stubbornly did not want to hold on and slipped back. Then the boy had to be smart: he quickly ran around the neighborhood, and he managed to find several coils of wire, with which Gregory connected the wires to the body of the chicken. It was more difficult with the endo skeleton: he would not be able to remove the cracks, but at least he reduced the load on them, still wrapping them with wire. Only the tubes remained, there were holes in them, from which, even if they were attached in place, it would not have given any sense. Then Gregory drew attention to his arm, which still had bandages: he also had, so to speak, cracks on his hands, and they managed to be bandaged. Maybe with these tubes it will turn out: but what to bandage. Then Gregory decided to step over himself: he managed to tear off his sleeve from his shirt and tear it into several scraps, with which he was able to repair the tubes on the endo skeleton. After that, the chicken began to recover: the repair worked. But just in case, Gregory stepped aside. Chika finally woke up: she started looking around, looked at herself, and then looked at Gregory. She was still sad, but there was gratitude and concern in her eyes now. The chicken seemed to be worried about the boy. She stretched out her hand to him and said something, but only a terrible creak came from her, from which Gregory even had to cover his ears. Chika sadly lowered her hand, and regretfully closed her eyes, lowering her head. It was painful for Gregory to see animatronics like this. He knew he had to do something for her: maybe if he brought her to the surface, she could be repaired. Yes, it was risky, but we can't leave her here. Gregory walked resolutely up to the chicken and held out his hand to her. Chika looked at him and shook her head. Gregory had to say that she could do anything. Then, finally, Chika took his hand and was able to get up from the floor. And now, together, they went in search of a way out. This place resembled a real maze: in some places, in order to open the doors, you even had to look for special generators to activate the buttons on the locks. In some places, the road lay on wooden planks that lay over deep pits. A couple of times Gregory almost fell down there, but Chika managed to catch him by the arms in time. Gregory was very lucky to have a guitar player with him, because although he did not see, he felt that someone was hiding at the bottom of these pits, and if the boy had fallen there, he would never have gotten out of there. Finally, after wandering through these tunnels for a long time, Gregory managed to find a staircase that led up to the pizzeria. The boy was unspeakably glad that he would finally be able to leave the landfill area. He wanted to invite Chika with him, but the chicken was categorically against it. No matter how Gregory tried to persuade her to go with him, but Chika only pointed out her broken state in response, urging the boy to go without her. But Gregory really didn't want to lose his new friend, and then Chika was forced to take action: she turned around and ran away from the boy, leaving him alone. Gregory had no choice but to sadly go back to the pizzeria. He was alone again. No matter what he does, everyone always leaves him. But there was no time to be sad: he had more serious challenges ahead. Finally, he was back at the mall. More precisely, in the utility rooms. Gregory has repeatedly cursed those who designed this building: there were solid labyrinths. Even the map didn't always help the boy. And not only did he almost get lost, but some problems with the light also began to occur: it periodically blinked, plunging Gregory into darkness, which the boy was very afraid of. Finally, Gregory was able to get to the service elevator. While he was driving, he was trying to determine from his map where the nearest exit was from him. As soon as he was able to determine his location, suddenly singing was heard from the speakers that were in the elevator. It wasn't the usual music that was playing in all the elevators. No, it was singing. Gregory recognized that painfully familiar voice. It was Freddy. Freddy sang the song in his charming, intoxicating voice, and judging by the words, it was a lullaby. The boy tried not to pay any attention to the bear, but it was difficult because the voice was painfully loud. When the elevator doors finally opened, Gregory realized with horror that Freddy's lullaby was being heard from everywhere, from all the speakers located in the pizzeria. The bear's voice came from all sides, and Gregory realized that this way he would not be able to understand from where Freddy could attack him. The boy began to look around more, trying to determine where the bear might be. Looking out for the animatronic, Gregory completely forgot about his other danger until it overtook him. Suddenly, the rabbit's paws closed around the boy's chest and mouth, preventing him from escaping. The rabbit dragged the panicked child into one of the utility rooms: she couldn't wait to finally get rid of him. She dragged the boy inside and closed the doors behind her, and then threw the child to the nearest wall. Gregory bumped his head painfully: his breathing quickened, he was scared. The only ways out of this situation were the door that the rabbit had just closed, or the ventilation above Gregory's head, but it was closed with a grate, and in order to get to it, something had to be planted. But Gregory wouldn't have had time to put anything on himself: the rabbit would catch him right away, and the boy wouldn't have anything to open the grate with. Gregory was trapped. And the rabbit only mocked him, saying that the time of games was over for him and it was time for him to meet his fate.
