The Story of NaNoWriMo
NaNoWriMo
was a nonprofit organization that hosted an annual writing challenge: write a 50,000-word novel during the month of November. It was an inspiring event that motivated thousands of writers to unleash their creativity and stick with it year after year.
Unfortunately, in recent years, the organization has experienced a steep decline due to lack of funding and poor management, leading to major controversies involving questionable AI sponsors and issues related to child safety.
And finally, the organization has announced it will be shutting down and 2025 event will not happen.
And this is where we’ve chosen to step in.
NaNoWriMo: New Chapter
We genuinely believe the core idea of NaNoWriMo is fantastic. It provides a clear goal, a solid timeline, and a shared sense of purpose in overcoming writer’s block as a community. That’s why we’ve decided to take on the challenge and make
NaNoWriMo 2025
the best version of the event to date.
We’re bringing our 15 years of experience to make

You’ll be able to participate with both original works and fanfiction, in any genre, fandom, or pairing.
Participation will be completely free for everyone.
We’re dedicating the next several months to ensure the best experience possible.
No AI-generated content allowed, this is a celebration of human creativity.
Everyone deserves to be heard. We are here to listen.
About FicFan
We are a team of writers and fanfiction enthusiasts from Europe, and many of us were part of the original development team behind ficbook.net which is a Russian-language fanfiction platform launched in 2009. Over time, Ficbook grew to more than 20 million users, becoming the second-largest fanfiction website in the world after AO3.
In recent years, however, the Russian government passed harsh anti-LGBTQ+ laws and pressured us to remove all slash and femslash content. We were threatened with criminal charges and even physical violence. But we refused to compromise. For us, writing is about freedom of expression and community. Giving in would have meant betraying everything we’d built.
As a result, Ficbook was banned in Russia. We lost a large portion of our audience, but many loyal writers and readers continue to access the site through VPNs.
Since then, we’ve expanded our vision, launching multilingual platforms based on the Ficbook codebase:
Hi there! 😊 My name is Sofia, I’m 15 years old and I’m from Ukraine. I’ve wanted to write a book for a really long time, so NaNoWriMo is a great chance for me to finally start writing! My book will be about the mafia — it probably won’t be fantasy, but something more realistic. The main character’s name is Sofia Reyland, and she’s the head of a mafia clan. I won’t reveal anything else 😉 I hope I can finish my book during this time.
The working title is Shadows of Naples: Code Lightning.
Thank you so much for this opportunity! Good luck to everyone! 💫

Hello, my fellow writers and lovely readers! November has begun, which means I am joining NewNoWriMo 2025!
Last time I participated was back in 2020, I wrote a novel in Russian. This year I plan to really challenge myself, and write femslash fanfiction based on Stranger Things in English! The story is going to be about unrequited love. I'm so excited to be a part of this creative month!

Almost there... Do I have enough chocolate at home? Better go and buy some discount halloween stuff to make sure. Also, rest your hands, carpal tunnel and all. Catch up on sleep while I still can?
...
Okay, that was funny.
Whatever is done, is done. Tomorrow, the journey starts: I've done it before, and I can do it again: I'll write a novel during November!

I don't know why I started following something like this, first of all, I've never followed a website like this, and all of this sounds very interesting. I found NaNoWriMo on one of the websites that explains about "Online writing community" recommendations. I hope I can grow more here :D
then I also felt that, it seems like all of this will be useful in the future.
I enjoy many things because I want to be a useful person. Furthermore, everything I try enhances my knowledge. I'm learning a musical instrument, starting to learn to write stories, songs, and more.
I hope that this way, I can develop much further and become much better than I am now.

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OF YOU 🍀🍀🍀
Hey everyone!
This November I’m joining NewNoWriMo 2025, and honestly, I’m both excited and terrified. The goal is to write 50,000 words in one month - that’s about 1,667 words every single day. It sounds crazy, but I’ve always wanted to write a sci-fi novel, and this feels like the perfect time to finally do it.
My story idea is still kind of messy, but it’s about a group of astronauts who discover that their ship’s AI has its own secret mission. There will be mystery, loneliness, and probably some space explosions.
The hardest part for me will be sticking to a routine. I usually get super motivated for a few days, and then I disappear into YouTube or just stare at the blinking cursor. To fight that, I’ve made a few rules for myself:
- Write every morning before work, even if it’s only 300 words.
- Don’t edit - just write. Typos are allowed.
- Reward myself with snacks and coffee when I hit word goals.
I’m also joining this discord server for motivation. It’s nice to know that lots of people around the world are struggling with the same blinking cursor.
By the end of November, I might not have a perfect novel, but I’ll have a story that didn’t exist before - and that’s pretty amazing.
Wish me luck!
