As the nights grow longer and the air turns colder, a whisper spreads through FicFan... the Masquerade of Shadows is about to begin! From November 20 to November 27, writers are invited to join a 7 day Halloween-themed challenge filled with eerie objects, mystical creatures, and stories that blur the line between beauty and fear.
Your task is simple — and yet not at all. Write a story of at least 700 words that includes one mystical creature (ANY! It’s your call!) and one cursed object from the list below. Step into the ballroom of shadows, where nothing is as it seems, and every mask hides a secret...
🎃 The Cursed Objects 🎃
- A broken mirror
- A candle that won’t stay lit
- A crimson mask
- A letter sealed with black wax
- A wilted flower
- A music box that plays on its own
- A key that opens any door
🕸️ Authors who complete the challenge (at least 700 words, including one mystical creature and one cursed object from the list) will receive a unique profile gift and 100 coins as a reward!

✅ Each work must contain any mystical creature and one cursed object from the list;
✅ Please, put the object of the list that you used in the Notes;
✅ Translations are allowed if you’re the original author and your work fits the narrative (at least, 1 object from the list and any mystical creature of your choice);
✅ Each work must be a new one, (i.e., not published on FicFan previously);
✅ It is prohibited to publish works that violate the Rules of our website;
