Night Hunt

Rosepaw sat down on the sand and began grooming her fur. They had just arrived to hunt on a small island in the middle of the shallows. "Alright, let's try our luck!" said Rosepaw, and opened her mouth. The rank scent of fish immediately tickled her jaws. "There's nothing here but fish!" Fallenpaw yowled in outrage. "What, don't want to get your paws wet?" the she-cat sneered, heading toward the water. "Exactly, Fallenpaw — it was your idea!" Dustpaw chimed in, running after the she-cat. Rosepaw stared into the dark flow of the river until her eyes ached and she finally spotted a dark shape. Her claws flashed in the moonlight, and in the next heartbeat, a fish was flopping on the shore. "That's one! Don't fall behind!" she called cheerfully over her shoulder. Soon, the three apprentices were sitting on the bank, catching fish. Only when dawn broke ahead, and sunlight began to filter through the willow leaves, did Rosepaw say, "That's enough! Gather the fish and let's go." But suddenly, her fur bristled, and the apprentices shrieked, "A badger!"
