The Hunting Lesson

Rosepaw trudged reluctantly toward her mentor, who was waiting impatiently at the entrance, flicking his tail. Seeing her, he sprang up and said, "Today we're going hunting." Rosepaw flattened her ears and protested, "But Flintstar said I already know how to hunt!"
Cattail let out a mocking snort. "Just because our leader said something doesn't mean you can hunt properly."
Rosepaw wanted to argue, but Cattail had already left without waiting for her. She lashed her tail in annoyance and followed him. They arrived at a small clearing bathed in sunlight. In the thick grass, the squeaking of mice could be heard. The she-cat instinctively crouched and spotted a mouse. "The fact that you managed to catch one at all is a miracle. To catch a mouse, you need to creep toward it slowly from downwind," he said, nodding as he glanced at the she-cat. "Keep your tail up! Watch not only the mouse but also where you place your paws. Shift your weight onto your haunches."
Rosepaw obediently crept forward, straining with all her might to perfectly follow her mentor's instructions. And then she leaped—the whole world froze. The mouse didn't even have time to turn around before the gray blur descended upon it and killed it with a bite to the neck. "I did it!" the she-cat purred in satisfaction.
Cattail nodded. "Bury the prey. We'll pick it up on the way back."
