The wind caressed her cheeks and rustled the grass as she lay with her eyes closed. Her consciousness was still enveloped in the darkness of peace and tranquility. But when she opened her eyes, she realized her head and soul were completely empty. The unfamiliar landscape, the unfamiliar face, didn't awaken a single glimmer of memory.
Sitting among the flowers, Edna stared at her, shielding herself from the sun with a lace parasol. She stared intently at the girl who had suddenly appeared, trying to discern something familiar about her: after all, the spring from which she and Eisen had been born was nearby. However, the girl was not blessed by the earth…
"Who are you?" Edna finally asked, not beating around the bush.
The girl looked at her questioningly, then fell into deep thought. Somewhere in the back of her mind, a name blossomed. Alien, yet brimming with a gentle warmth. Like the sight of flowers in a meadow, caught by the girl's gaze: it seemed familiar.
"…Sopheria," she said quietly. But she quickly corrected herself: "Sophie."
'Did she choose her name spontaneously?' Edna was wary of the coincidence. However, that wasn't what she was asking. 'It seems she doesn't understand it herself…' Realization dawned. 'Perhaps she was born of a human? Like Meebo? Then she was lucky I was nearby, otherwise she would have been completely confused.'
"Well, I suppose welcome back to this world, Sophie. My name is Edna. I am earth seraph."
"A seraph?"
"Yes, like you. Listen to yourself. Which element is closer to you?"
Sophie closed her eyes again, peering even deeper into her soul. Somewhere out there, a drop fell, breaking the surface with ripples.
"Water?"
"Oh," Edna drawled, grinning involuntarily," just like Meebo. I should introduce you. You'll definitely have a lot to talk about."
Asking Sophie anything was pointless: Edna understood perfectly well that all memory of human life had left her with her last breath, and now standing before her was literally a newborn creature, not yet fully aware of its essence. Even her true name hadn't manifested in her soul.
'And she's very lucky to have such a good older sister by her side,' Edna smiled to herself, extending a helping hand to the girl.
