The truth seemed impossible to comprehend. Grune—a goddess? And another goddess confronted them, threatening to destroy the world, to reduce their lives and priceless memories to nothing. And they were just humans. Weak and helpless before forces of such magnitude. After all, deities weren't even elements, but a completely different plane, the very essence of the world. What could they do against them? How could they defend themselves, uphold their right to life?
Their arms drooped, their legs dragged, their consciousness slipped away, categorically refusing to think clearly. It wasn't true. Some kind of mistake. A bad dream. If they slept, everything would be as before.
But no… There's no point in running from reality. They have to live with it somehow. Find the strength to fight despite the fact that there's no hope. After all, it's inaction that reduces any chance to zero. A miracle won't happen if they close their eyes and hide under the covers. Tears won't wash away all the troubles. Trembling won't shake the burdens off their shoulders.
There's only one way out: fight. Stand their ground until their last breath. As long as they're alive, as long as they fight for themselves and their world, there's a chance. And its significance isn't so important; its presence is enough.
They had time to think, to recharge with what was dear to them. Meeting at the city gates, neither of them spoke a word, silently touching souls—with their eyes—they nodded in understanding. Without a word, they gathered together. All that remained was to await the key to their destiny, so they could set out for the battlefield together. Silently, each immersed in their own thoughts, thoughts for which there would be no time once they set out.
Grune didn't keep them waiting long…
