Chapter 19, A Real Test
May 30, 2026 at 3:10 AM
In the break room.
Toshinori, in his gaunt form in a suit clearly suited for his muscle version, stares at his phone, puzzled.
“…This is how it works, right…?”
He taps the screen again.
Waits.
Nothing.
A faint frown pulls at his face.
Thirteen and Aizawa should be answering by now… I’ve called multiple times.
They can’t be working that hard…
He exhales, slumping slightly, placing the phone on the table—
Still trying to connect.
Speaking of working hard… I should at least make an appearance…
Hero work comes first, of course… but being a teacher—especially for the kid…—
Toshinori straightens.
In an instant—
He transforms.
All Might stands tall.
“Yes! Young Midoriya hasn’t put me out of commission just yet!”
“Hold on!”
The door swings open.
Nezu stands there, smiling.
“Oh! The principal!”
“Yes, that’s me! But am I a mouse? Or a dog? Or a bear?”
Nezu places a paw to his chin, tilting his head thoughtfully.
“Maybe neither… maybe all.”
A small, satisfied nod.
“But all you need to know… is that I’m the principal!”
He spreads his arms slightly, puffing his chest with quiet pride.
All Might’s smile freezes.
A beat.
…So adorable!
“Hoho! Fantastic introduction as always, sir! Might I add—your coat is looking splendid!”
Nezu steps further into the room, hands behind his back.
“My secret is keratin! No human can produce such luster!”
A small, satisfied nod.
“But enough of that, All Might-sensei… take a look at this.”
He produces a tablet, holding it out.
On the screen—
Yahoo News: All Might Resolves Three Incidents in Under an Hour
All Might looks at the screen. “Hmm!”
Nezu clasps his paws behind his back, smiling.
“The ne’er-do-wells in this city haven’t let up, even after you came to town. But rushing off the moment you hear trouble is so very like you.”
A soft chuckle.
“You really haven’t changed at all!”
All Might’s smile holds.
He shifts slightly.
Uh-oh…
Nezu raises a finger, still smiling.
“Your injury and its aftereffects have limited you as a hero. And on top of that, you’ve taken on the responsibility of training the successor of One For All.”
He tilts his head slightly.
“But you—being the stubborn Symbol of Peace that you are—refuse to make either of those things public knowledge.”
A small, satisfied smile.
“Which is exactly why I recommended that you teach here.”
Steam curls from Toshinori as he deflates back into his gaunt form.
Nezu continues, unbothered.
“So try taking it easy once in a while.”
He climbs onto the couch, small paws gripping the edge as he pulls himself up with ease.
“Even today, you’ll only be able to attend a portion of the class. I did offer you the position here, yes—but you were the one who accepted it.”
A small smile.
“So I’d appreciate it if you tried a bit harder to prioritize your role as a teacher.”
He adjusts himself on the couch.
“This city has more than enough hero agencies to handle common criminals.”
Toshinori rubs his neck.
“You’re absolutely right, sir. I apologize… I was actually just about to head out to USJ…”
Nezu leans over the edge of the couch, already pouring himself a cup of tea.
“But you’d be forced to return soon thereafter, no?”
A soft smile.
“So why not enjoy some tea and crackers with me? I can tell you about my theories of education.”
Damn..! He’s pouring tea…
There’s no stopping him once he gets going…
Toshinori exhales and sits down, crossing his arms.
…It didn’t even go to voicemail.
The fact that I couldn’t get through at all… that’s what worries me…
Nezu hands Toshinori a cup.
“First, on the inevitable stresses and burdens that come with walking the line between hero and educator…”
He takes a sip of his tea.
Toshinori looks down at the cup in his hand.
“…Sensei.”
A small pause.
“You haven’t changed either…”
…
Back at the USJ—
Students stand scattered.
Disoriented.
Iida steps forward, rigid.
“Where is everyone?! Can we confirm their locations?!”
Shoji’s arms extend, forming eyes that scan the area.
“I can’t pinpoint everyone… but they haven’t left the facility.”
From a distance—
the mist shifts.
“They’ve been separated.”
Calm. Certain.
Sero fires his tape—
It passes through the swirling figure.
“—Tch! Physical attacks are useless! He just warps! This guy’s Quirk is too tough to handle!”
Thirteen turns sharply.
“Class president!”
Iida straightens instantly.
“Yes!”
“Your task is to return to the school and report what’s happening.”
Iida freezes.
“…What?”
Behind them—
the portal user remains still.
Watching.
Waiting.
“The alarms haven’t sounded. Communication is down.”
Thirteen’s voice remains steady.
“UA’s system runs on infrared detection. The fact that it hasn’t activated—even with Eraser Head nullifying Quirks—means the one interfering isn’t here.”
A beat.
“Which means our best chance of getting help… is you.”
Iida clenches his fists.
“Thirteen-sensei! Your reasoning is sound, but—!”
His voice tightens.
“The class president cannot simply abandon his class!”
“Hey—!”
Sato steps forward—
and shoves him.
“He said GO!”
Iida stumbles.
“Emergency exit! Move!”
Iida digs his heels in.
“But surely… there could be more villains outside—!”
“The external alarm system is still active.”
Thirteen cuts in immediately.
“That means the disturbance is contained within the USJ.”
“So what are you waiting for?!” Sero snaps. “Go! With your speed, you can shake that mist guy!”
“But—!”
“Iida-kun.”
Thirteen’s voice softens—just slightly.
“Please. Use your Quirk… and save us all.”
Iida’s lip trembles.
I must follow Thirteen-sensei’s instructions…
His fist tightens, eyes shut.
…But this feels cowardly!
Uraraka steps forward.
“Just like in the cafeteria, Iida-kun!”
Her voice is firm.
“We’ll support you! You won’t have to act alone this time!”
“Do it, Class President!” Mina calls out. “Save us!”
A beat—
Iida’s jaw locks.
“Aside from the fact that you have no hope…”
The mist swells, expanding outward.
“…what sort of fool discusses strategy within earshot of the enemy?”
Thirteen steps forward, raising his hand.
“It hardly matters if you overheard...”
His fingers form the shape of a gun—
Two fingers extended.
Thumb raised.
The seams along them split open.
A powerful suction roars to life.
“You can’t stop us!”
——
Back at the USJ Flood Zone—
Shallow water ripples underfoot.
The remains of the shattered cruise ship drift behind them, broken in half. Villains lie tangled together along the surface, bound tight.
Above—
a massive water slide continues to churn, part of the facility’s design. Ice chunks ride its current before spilling down into the zone below, one after another.
The system hums on.
Uninterrupted.
Tsuyu walks behind Izuku, dragging Mineta along by his scarf.
“I took a really clean dump this morning, so they should be stuck together all day,” Mineta says, oddly nonchalant.
A beat.
Izuku doesn’t react.
“The plan worked…”
His voice is low, distant.
“If they had been smarter and hidden deeper underwater, I would have needed to sustain my flicks until it flushed them all out. If I had gotten in the water myself, I could have—”
“Stop it, Midoriya. That’s scary,” Tsuyu cuts in, blunt.
“So what should we do now?” she asks.
Izuku’s eyes sharpen.
Right… first priority—keep everyone safe.
He glances at Tsuyu.
She’s capable. Calm, fast, agile… she can carry Mineta.
A beat—
If they stick to the shoreline… avoid the plaza… they can reach the exit. Call for help.
His gaze shifts outward.
I find Todoroki. Bakugo, Kaminari.
Izuku looks out across the zone, to where Aizawa is still fighting, surrounded by a mass of villains.
They stabilize Aizawa-sensei.
A beat—
Then I move.
Find the others.
Uraraka.
A beat—
I’ll run into villains along the way…
And they don’t know my Quirk.
His fingers twitch.
…A real test.
“I agree with Mineta, Midoriya.”
Izuku stops muttering, looking at Tsuyu.
“…Huh?”
“You should come with us,” Tsuyu says plainly. “Wait for the pros to handle it.”
“Yeah!” Mineta chimes in. “We’ve been here a while—someone’s gotta be coming soon!”
Izuku shakes his head.
“No. No one knows something’s wrong.”
A beat.
“The alarm system’s being interfered with. Remember?”
His gaze lowers slightly.
“The only one who might notice… is All Might.”
Another beat.
“…But he’s resting.”
Izuku nods.
“If we follow my plan, I can make sure everyone stays safe. Aizawa-sensei included.”
He gestures with his hands.
“That’s better than just standing around waiting, right?”
Tsuyu watches him.
“I’m worried you’ll take it too far again, Midoriya.”
Her voice stays even.
“And seriously hurt yourself… or worse.”
“I’ll be fine.”
Izuku offers a small, reassuring smile.
“It’s what Aizawa-sensei said. Keep the class safe.”
A casual shrug.
“That includes me.”
Mineta puts his hands behind his head.
“Well… whatever you think is best, Midoriya.”
He shifts awkwardly.
“You do all this crazy stuff and somehow it works out, so I’m not even going to question it.”
Mineta walks ahead.
“Come on, Asui-san.”
“Ribbit.”
Tsuyu glances back at Izuku.
Just once.
Izuku offers a small, reassuring smile.
Tsuyu doesn’t smile back.
“…Don’t be reckless, Midoriya.”
Then she turns—
and follows after Mineta.
Izuku looks back at Aizawa.
Sensei…
You jumped into the fray knowing you would lose…
Just to buy us time…
Izuku’s fist tightens.
I won’t let your heroism end here!
Izuku’s gaze shifts—
to the next zone.
The mountain rises in the distance.
“…High.”
A brief pause.
His stance lowers.
——
Scene shifts—
The Landslide Zone.
Todoroki looks over the scene.
“‘Divide and conquer,’ huh…”
The battlefield comes into view.
Ice blankets the ground.
Villains stand frozen mid-motion.
“…Guess that didn’t work out.”
A villain closest to him—encased in ice up to his torso—scowls.
“You cold, disfigured bastard—! The moment you were warped here…-!”
His teeth grit.
“…Are you really a kid?!”
“Are you really an adult?”
Todoroki’s lips barely lift into a faint smirk.
“That’s embarrassing.”
“Why you—!”
The smirk fades.
“Be quiet.”
The villain stiffens.
Todoroki’s eyes narrow.
“You’re only making it worse.”
Flash—
A man covered in hands. That grin.
“Brought some of my friends to ‘train’ you…”
Todoroki looks off to the side.
They want to kill All Might…
A coordinated attack… or that’s what it looked like.
But these aren’t elites.
His gaze sharpens.
Most of them are just here for us.
Distractions.
Fodder.
…Only a few are actually dangerous. About four or five.
“Hey.”
Todoroki crouches, lowering himself to the frozen man’s level.
“At this rate… your skin will start to rot from frostbite.”
The villain stiffens in alarm.
“Huh?!”
Todoroki’s gaze is steady.
“But I’m trying to be a hero. And heroes don’t do things like that.”
Flash—
Midoriya. Fingers cracking.
Todoroki exhales softly, eyes glancing to the side.
“…Most of us, anyway.”
He meets the man’s eyes.
“So. You want to find out which kind I am…”
His voice lowers. The villain’s teeth begin to clatter.
“…or be a responsible adult… and tell me how you plan to kill All Might?”
——
Scene change—
Mountain Zone.
“Uwahhh!”
Kaminari ducks as a massive fist swings past his head, just barely missing.
“Gee-wiz! My whole life just flashed right before my eyes!”
He scrambles back toward the center, where Jiro and Yaoyorozu stand.
Surrounded.
Jiro grips a machete.
Yaoyorozu holds a metal staff.
“Who the hell are these guys?! What are they doing here?!” Kaminari blurts.
“Worry about that later!” Jiro snaps. “We need to figure a way out of this!”
She glances back.
“Yaoyorozu-san! Any ideas?!”
No response.
Yaoyorozu stares ahead, brows furrowed.
Eyes fixed on the enemy.
Thinking.
Calculating.
Jiro clicks her tongue and turns back.
“Hey!” she barks at Kaminari. “You’re the lightning guy, right? Fry them!”
Kaminari throws his hands up.
“Were you not paying attention during battle training?! We were partners, for Pete’s sake!”
His fingers spark, electricity crackling.
“I can only coat myself! Yeah, I can discharge it, but I can’t control it! I’ll hit you guys too!”
A beat.
“It’s AOE—like Todoroki’s!”
He taps the device at his ear.
“I’m trying to call for help, but my transceiver’s jammed! Get it?! You can’t rely on me—I’m relying on you!”
Jiro grimaces.
“You sure blab a lot for a guy! Where’s your balls?!”
“Oh, I’m sorry!” Kaminari snaps, “I left them at home when I thought this was a normal school TRIP—!”
Jiro kicks him.
“Fine! Be a human stun gun!”
“YOU BITCHHHHH—!”
Kaminari stumbles forward—
straight into the charging brute.
Contact—
Skkkrrttt—
“GWAHHHHH!”
Electricity erupts as the villain convulses.
Kaminari blinks—
still frying him—
then glances back.
“…Hey, it worked!”
A grin spreads.
“I’m hecking strong!”
“GWAAAAAAH!”
Kaminari gives a thumbs up.
“Just rely on me, guys!”
Jiro exhales sharply.
“…Dumbass.”
Her eyes widen.
“Watch out!”
“Huh—?”
Kaminari is still shocking the guy—
but turns—
Too late.
A massive arm swings down—
fist hardened into a boulder—
slamming toward his head.
At the same time—
another villain leaps in from above—
two knives drawn.
Closing in.
Suddenly—
A burst of sound SHATTERS the boulder mid-swing.
The impact dulls—
the villain’s fist barely presses against Kaminari’s cheek.
“What the—?” Kaminari blurts, his voice muffled against the man’s hand—
Before the villain joins in getting electrocuted.
“GWAHHHH!”
Flap!
The airborne attacker jerks, caught mid-leap.
“A net?!”
The mesh tightens around him, dragging him down.
Momo stands firm.
“Pay attention, you two!”
Her elbow seals shut where the net deployed.
Jiro clicks her tongue as the jack from her ear retracts, unplugging from the speaker on her leg and sliding back into place.
“Take your own advice, prissy!”
Kaminari grins, still frying the villains.
“Thanks, you guys! Wow, I sure do feel popular!”
“GWAAAAAAH—!!”
Jiro blocks a sword strike with her machete—
At the same time, the speakers on her legs pivot—
A focused blast erupts—
hammering into a cluster of villains.
They recoil instantly, hands flying to their ears, some collapsing outright.
“GAAAH—MY EARS!!”
Momo steps in, sweeping a villain back with her staff.
“Sorry! It takes a moment…!”
She stumbles slightly.
Her back presses against her shirt—
then bulges.
The fabric stretches—
tears—
Jiro’s eyes widen.
Momo grits her teeth.
“…Larger objects take more time!”
Jiro spots the villains closing in.
“Yaoyorozu!”
The bulge halts.
Momo looks up—
A shadow looms.
A fist swings down—
Fear flashes across her face.
Then—
A shadow cuts across the ground.
Jiro looks up. Her eyes widen
“…!”
Impact.
The earth cracks.
The villain in front of Momo is driven into the ground.
The surrounding villains freeze.
Stunned.
Dust settles—
Momo blinks at the figure standing atop the villain.
“…Midoriya-kun?”
Kaminari stares, still electrocuting.
“Midoriya?! Where the hell did you come from?!”
“GWAAAAH!”
Izuku doesn’t reply. He exhales quietly.
“…Too much force. Adjust the angle next time…”
He straightens.
Looks up.
Scans.
The villains shift uneasily.
“Who is that—?!”
“Did he fall from the sky?!”
“Why is he talking to himself…?”
Izuku’s gaze sharpens.
“…Eighteen.”
Then—
He moves.
Front line unstable. Two rushing. Right side slower.
A step—
A flick—
Too much force—
The first villain is launched too far—
slams into the ground.
…Too much.
He adjusts.
Second attacker—
A smaller flick—
Controlled—
The man crumples, not thrown as far.
Better.
Another closes in—
Izuku pivots.
Low guard. Opening. Don’t use Quirk.
A strike—
Clean.
The villains panic.
“A-attack that kid!”
“ARGHHHH!”
They rush him. All at once.
Izuku’s eyes sharpen.
Too many. Terrain uneven. Don’t overcommit. Don’t Smash.
A step—
He shifts left—
A swing passes his shoulder—
Close.
Too close.
Late.
He adjusts—
A flick—
Controlled—
The attacker folds, skidding across the ground.
Another from behind—
Izuku ducks—
A blade whistles past—
Timing off.
His heel digs in—
A short burst—
He drives his elbow back—
Impact—
The man stumbles—
Not down.
Not enough.
Izuku pivots—
A second flick—
Stronger—
The villain is thrown into two others—
Bodies collide.
Better.
“Th-This isn’t a kid—! It’s a pro!”
“Screw this!”
One breaks—
runs.
Others follow.
Kaminari stops frying his targets as they collapse, eyes spiraling, completely shorted out.
He staggers back toward Jiro and Momo, whose back still bulges beneath her shirt.
“W-what the hell?! Is that really Midoriya?! Why’s he fighting like he’s possessed?!”
He jolts suddenly, pointing.
“And why’s an alien coming out of your back?!”
Jiro keeps her eyes on Izuku, a crease forming between her brows.
“Yaoyorozu! You had a plan, right?!”
Momo glances at Jiro.
“Do it!”
Momo nods. “…Right!”
The bulge shifts—grows.
Kaminari scoffs.
“What’s the point?! Just let Midoriya handle it—he’s got this!”
Jiro snaps.
“Are you stupid?! He’s going to get overwhelmed!”
FOOM—
Momo exhales.
“It’s ready!”
A thick sheet bursts from her back—
unfolding instantly—
shielding the three of them.
She pushes Kaminari out from under the sheet.
“Hey—!”
Momo lifts the edge slightly.
“Midoriya-kun! This way!”
Izuku halts mid-motion.
His gaze flicks—
sheet—
Kaminari—
calculation.
He moves.
A quick slide—
He slips under.
Momo lowers the sheet.
“Kaminari! Now!”
Kaminari blinks.
“…Ohhh!”
Realization hits.
A grin spreads.
“Sorry, guys…!”
He raises his arms.
“But Midoriya’s not actually—”
He slams them down.
“—the MVP!!”
Electricity detonates outward—
engulfing the battlefield.
FZZHHHH—
“GYAHHHHH!”
FSHHH…
A few seconds pass.
The sheet smokes, scorched in places.
Izuku lifts the edge slightly, peering out. He surveys the scene—
villains collapsed across the ground.
He begins murmuring to himself, evaluating.
“Ow—!”
Jiro kicks him.
“Stop murmuring, jackass, it’s creepy!”
Izuku frowns, rubbing his butt.
“And what were you thinking, taking them all by yourself, you reckless tryhard—!”
She freezes.
Eyes snapping to the side.
A blush spreads across her face.
“Yaoyorozu—?!”
Kaminari stands nearby, staring at them—
eyes spiraling—
arms thrusting constant thumbs-ups.
“Woo-hoo!”
Izuku blinks.
“Kaminari, what—?”
“Kyaaa!!! Don’t look!!!”
Momo collides into Izuku’s back, pressing herself against him to cover up, eyes squeezed shut.
Izuku freezes.
The light leaves his eyes.
His expression goes blank.
Jiro stammers, flustered.
“Y-Y-Yaoyorozu! It’s okay! Kaminari gets like that whenever he goes over his max wattage!”
Momo peeks up cautiously.
“…Huh…?”
Kaminari’s drooling.
“Woo-hoo!”
Izuku remains kneeling there, half under the sheet.
Completely gone.
…Yaoyorozu’s… boob-orozus……
