Edna was strolling with her little sister near their home mountain. Playing with the younger ones is the responsibility of an older sister. However, given how Keith and Joachim had turned out, Edna was beginning to doubt her own parenting skills… Especially since those two had already exerted a strong influence on their younger sister, so skinny Hilda was playing the role of a superhero, practicing earthen techniques. With a sharp gaze, she would imagine a target and attack it decisively!
The boys took a more brutal approach, preferring fists and weapons. Case was literally beside himself when he found unique swords. He was especially intrigued by the alloy they were made from, as they had all been dug from the depths of the earth, processed, refined, and created into works of art. He made one of these swords his vessel. Joachim didn't stand on ceremony at all, tearing out a piece of rock that suited his taste, and then returned with a pillar from the ruins… Each time with a different one. Edna tried not to ask unnecessary questions, simply resigned herself to it.
Only Eizen wasn't above using the earth artes, though he loved to fight like a mere mortal, one of whom he became a loyal friend to.
'It seems Eizen and I are the only normal ones,' Edna thought with a sigh. She loved all her brothers and sister, but the youngest were so loud and restless that there was absolutely no chance for a quiet moment with them. 'Why are you the only one who never comes back…?' she raised her eyes to the sky, questioning. To the one she loved most, no matter what. The first…
Edna secretly missed the days when she was the only sister in a growing group of men: she was never left alone. No matter how much she grumbled about loving peace and quiet… But she always had the opportunity to exercise her sharp mind with caustic phrases, finding an individual "needle" for each of the brothers. Only Eizen reacted humorously, seeing right through her.
When Hilda appeared, the brothers seemed to think Edna wouldn't be lonely with her if they decided to set out together to accomplish heroic deeds. Even Eizen was fired up by the idea… of protecting the dear members of his extended family from the curse that troubled him. But it never bothered any of them. And Edna was downright afraid that because of it, Eizen would never return at all…
Thinking about her older brother, Edna completely failed to notice how Hilda, saturated with the earth's energy, had swelled up. The youngest had a habit of doing that…
"Don't overdo it," Edna had to remind her. "Or you'll burst like a balloon."
"Oh," the plump Hilda said, genuinely surprised.
Not only her appearance had changed, but her gaze as well. It had become much softer and kinder, as if the earth itself were purifying her thoughts.
"Come on, it's time to go back. Those idiots will move a mountain if they come back and don't find us…"
Edna never imagined that one day she would miss Hilda too, when she, too, decided to explore the world, seek adventure and find people yearning to be saved. And even less did she know that she would succumb to the family habit of traveling the world herself, having managed to become sad in loneliness. She would become a hero who saved the world…
'That must be what we're all about,' she would think then, allowing the irony to slip through with a slight smile.
