Chapter 6

Finally, the day came when Antsifer was going to be operated on. "Maybe I should go with you," said Milagros quietly. "No, you can't miss school. Your mother wouldn't approve. Albert will go with me," said Antsifer, trying his best to appear calm. Although he was terrified. "Promise me that everything will be okay," said Milagros, looking into his yellow eyes. "I can't promise that, but I don't think anything bad will happen," he said as confidently as he could. He arrived at the hospital on time. When he entered the operating room, he noticed two assistants, both young women in their early twenties. "Well, young man, take off your clothes and don't worry," the doctor said, noticing that Antsifer was hesitant to approach the modernized, large table with straps for securing his arms and legs. The demon slowly removed his vest, then his shirt, and turned to face the doctor. "No, no, young man, completely. The body must be free," the doctor said. Antsifer blushed, glancing at the girls standing nearby, who were smiling and quietly chatting. "There's no need to be shy, young man," the doctor chuckled. "Do you need assistance, Your Grace?" One of the girls asked, looking at him slyly. "Don't worry, I can do it myself," the teenager said quietly, unbuttoning his trousers. After a while, he stood in the middle of the room completely naked. The girls approached him and began to treat his wings with a strong-smelling solution, then laid him on a table and covered him with a thin sheet up to his waist, fastening the straps on his arms and legs to keep him securely bound. One of the girls brought a bottle of clear liquid, poured it into a glass, and gave it to him to drink. The burning liquid scorched his throat. Antsifer coughed slightly. The doctor made the demon put a leather-wrapped stick in his mouth. "This is just in case it's too painful, but we'll try to minimize the pain," the man said. One of the assistants opened a jar on the table, which contained a strip of porous fabric. The assistant took out the fabric, wrung it out slightly, and covered Antsifer's face up to his eyes. Demon began to shake his head and struggle, suddenly panicking. The second assistant held his head. Gradually, his mind began to cloud over, and the sweet smell coming from the fabric made his eyelids heavy and his vision blurry. He fell into a deep, dreamless sleep. "The alchemists didn't fail," said the doctor, and he opened a tray containing needles and thin leather cords soaked in a disinfectant solution. He would trim the jagged edges of the torn membranes, create a patch, and stitch it back into place, restoring the wing's integrity. The girls held the wing open. The doctor cleaned his hands with the same solution and began the operation. As he trimmed and sewed the patches, Antsifer occasionally winced and moaned, but he didn't wake up, which brought the doctor great relief. The operation took quite a long time, and a couple of assistants were needed. But soon he ordered them to unstrap the patient and remove the sedative mask. The young demon was still in a deep sleep. When he slowly opened his eyes, he felt pain in his wings and a gentle touch on his hair. He didn't know how much time had passed. "You're finally awake, Your Grace. How are you feeling?" asked one of the doctor's assistants standing next to him. "My head is buzzing, my wings are hurting, and I'm very weak," replied Antsifer. "That will pass. You can sleep some more if you want. There's no need to get up right away. Unfortunately, we don't have any human rooms, only animal cages. So you'll have to stay here for now. Dr. Marcos has canceled all surgeries for today because of you," she said with a smile. "That's right. "Give him my thanks," he said, rubbing his aching wrists. "I will," the girl smiled, and in the next moment she leaned down close to him, and he felt her lips touch his. The light caressing movements of her lips and tongue made him freeze and blush. He was alternately hot and cold, and his body was covered with sweat. The girl stroked his face, her fingers tangling in his thick, coarse hair. Suddenly, her fingers slid down his neck, over his collarbone, and stopped on his chest. He felt as if he had stopped breathing, and all he could hear was the loud thumping of his excited heart. Soon she pulled away from him and met his dazed gaze. “That’s for being such a good boy,” she said with a smile, then left the operating room. It took Antsifer a while to recover, just lying there staring at the ceiling, but soon he dozed off. It was about two hours later when he finally woke up and tried to stand. The weakness had subsided a bit and his head was no longer throbbing. When Dr. Marcos came in, Antsifer was sitting up on the table. "How are we feeling, young man?" he asked with a smile, followed by his assistant. "I'm fine," the demon replied, although he was a bit pale. "Please have the gentleman's servant come in. Let him help you get dressed," the doctor instructed the assistant, who then left. A couple of minutes later, Albert came into the hall, who had been waiting for him in the break room all this time. When Ancifer was already dressed, the doctor took a pair of long straps from the table and tied them around the wings. "Don't open it until it heals. If they get numb, untie them and just hold them in a relaxed state," then he handed Albert a large bottle with a clear liquid." This will treat the stitches every day. Can you handle it yourself, or should I send one of my assistants?" "I can handle it," Albert replied. "Strict bed rest today and for the next two days. You need to rest and recuperate. Try to sleep on your back so as not to disturb the wings. The temperature may rise, this is normal. Eat plenty of meat, milk, and fruits. This will speed up the healing process. Also, don't let anyone touch them, it can cause infection. If the remedy runs out, let me know, and I'll bring more," the doctor instructed. "Thank you," Antsifer said quietly. He tried to stand up and suddenly felt dizzy. Albert managed to pick him up and helped him out of the operating room, heading for the emergency entrance, near which his crew was standing. Marcos helped Antsifer into the carriage. When they left, the doctor returned to his office. After a while, a young woman who looked vaguely like him came in. "How did it go?" she asked. "It's not bad, but who knows how his body will react to such an intervention," Marcos replied, looking at the heavy bag full of gold coins that Antsifer's servant had left behind. "It's enough to repair the hospital and buy medicine from the alchemists," the woman said. "Not only that, but we'll also have some left over," he said. "It's been a busy day. I've taken over all your work," she said. "I knew you could handle it, little sister. And it was worth it," the man smiled. She responded with a tired, reserved smile. Once in his room, the demon changed into his usual sleeping clothes and lay down on the bed. He spent a long time thinking about the kiss, wondering why the girl had done it and how pleasant it had been, blushing with embarrassment over and over again. He didn't even know the nurse's name. Albert set up a bedside table and brought him some food, realizing that his master was hungry since he had been forbidden to eat before the operation. Antifer had never eaten with such an appetite. Afterward, he asked Albert to bring him a book, a notebook, and writing utensils, intending to study. Then he dismissed the servant to rest. When Milly returned from school, he recognized her immediately, as she immediately came to his side. "How did it go? Was it painful? Let me see," she said, climbing onto his bed and stretching out her hand to the wing. The demon intercepted her and shook his head negatively. "The doctor forbade them to touch them. You can put something in there," he did not remember the difficult word for himself. "An infection," the girl guessed, "it's like an infection. "It hurt a little, but I was asleep," Antsifer answered her questions. The girl climbed onto his lap and hugged him. "It's good that it's over. I was so worried," she said softly. The demon smiled and stroked her soft, silky hair. The girl was a little upset when she found out that he would not be attending school for the next two days, although she took the assignment for him from Lady Laura this time. She expressed a desire to have dinner in his room, but the governess insisted that she go down to the dining room. After dinner, Aldo and Sofia came into his room. They were quite pleased that he felt well, clearly wondering why he should stay at home when he could go to school tomorrow. "What the doctor said must be done, and I will definitely make sure of it," Sofia said with a smile, looking carefully at her adopted son. Ancifer blushed slightly, trying to hide how pleased he was with their attention and care. For a long time, Mili did not want to leave his room before going to bed, trying to stay longer under any pretext. "Good night, Ciri," she finally said before leaving, when the governess insisted on it. Ancifer quickly fell asleep and, through a deep sleep, felt a touch on his wings and a quiet, malicious whisper.: "Die, you nothingness." The demon didn't think much of it, thinking it was just a bad dream. In the dead of night, Albert woke up in his room and began to dress, as he was instructed to keep an eye on his master. Upon entering his room, he was stunned to see the demon standing near the huge open window, completely naked. His skin was steaming, as if he had just come out of a steam room. "Master," the servant called out in surprise. The man turned around. His eyes were burning with a yellow fire. He looked at the man and then turned back to the window. The cold night wind blew against his body, stirring the light curtains. Albert looked at the clothes on the floor, then approached Antifer and touched his shoulder. His body was burning with fire. "He has a fever," Albert realized. The guy picked up his clothes from the floor, they were wet, as if they had just been washed. The bed linen was also wet. "Sir, you shouldn't stand by the open window, you might catch a cold," he said and closed the window. Antsifer didn't react to this. Albert changed the bed linen and approached the young man to dress him. Suddenly, the young demon began to fall to the side from a sudden wave of weakness. The servant caught him in time and helped him to the bed, dressed him, put him in bed, put a wet, cold towel on his forehead, in order to somehow reduce the temperature. An hour later, he realized that it was useless. Antsifer was delirious, so and so he was trying to get up, tearing his clothes. Albert had no choice but to go to the women's wing. To wake up Milady at this hour, it was not acceptable, but the situation was too serious and Albert did not think that he could cope with it himself. He knocked loudly and clearly on her bedroom door. "I'm sorry, Lady Sophia, for coming so late," he said, hoping that the woman would hear him anyway. A couple of minutes later, she opened the door, throwing on a long, loose-sleeved housecoat. "What's wrong, Albert?" She said excitedly. "I'm sorry, madam, but Mr. Antsifer is very ill. I do not know what to do. He has a high fever and is delirious," the servant said, looking down. The woman left her room in silence. When they entered, Antifer was sitting on the bed, his shirt torn, and he was breathing heavily. Sophia approached him and embraced him. "Calm down, dear, it will pass," she said, and she ordered a servant to bring warm water and vinegar from the dining room. She mixed the vinegar with the water and had the servant undress the young man and wash his body with the solution, while she helped to wash his wings, which had to be freed from their restraints. "Albert, has the gentleman left his room?" Sofia asked sternly. "I don't think so, mistress. The young master would not violate the doctor's recommendation," the servant said confidently. He knew that he would certainly not violate Lady Sophia's orders. "Then why are his wings out of the mud?" she asked, pointing to the dirty water and towel. It became clear that someone wanted to harm the young demon. Albert looked at her in bewilderment and guilt. The wings had to be re-treated with the medicine and tied with straps. The woman ordered a chair to be brought to the bed, and after arranging the pillows so that the chair would not fall, she sat with her back against the pillows, placing one of them on her lap, and then using a towel to cover it, she laid Antiphera down with the help of a servant, so that his head rested on her lap. "Albert, go rest," she ordered, noticing the dark circles under his eyes, and asked him to keep what had happened a secret. "Yes, my lady," he said, bowing and leaving. Antsifer tossed and turned in a feverish state until almost dawn, mumbling incoherently. Soon, Lady Sophia felt his body's fever begin to subside. When demon awoke, the first thing he felt was a gentle touch. When he opened his eyes, he saw Lady Sofia sleeping next to him, who finally dozed off when she realized that he was feeling better. His head was resting on her lap and she was gently hugging him. The guy smiled at her. "Mother," he said softly, touching her hand on his chest. The woman opened her eyes. "How are you feeling?" she asked excitedly. The guy was incredibly pale, but he didn't have time to answer. The door to his room flew open, and a crying Milly rushed in. "Tsiry, please don't die, don't leave me alone," she sobbed, hugging him. The guy looked at the girl in surprise. Apparently the servants had already informed her that he had been unwell last night. The demon was quietly stroking her head. "Calm down, honey, everything's fine with Antsifer," Sofia said, smiling. The girl looked at him sobbing, clung to him, hugging his neck. "Swear you'll never leave me," she said, looking into his eyes. "I swear," he said, smiling to reassure her.
