Sitting at the table, swirling a fragrant fruit drink in his hand, Caius gazed thoughtfully at her—the light of his life. They were lucky enough to witness a flower festival in the deserted city after a long rainy season, and now Rubia was joyfully dancing a traditional local dance with the other girls. Simple in execution, but incredibly beautiful with so many colorfully dressed participants, especially in the light of the pre-sunset sun. The mixture of smooth and sharp movements, executed with graceful synchronicity, created a unique chaotic order. And Rubia fit into it perfectly, bright and positive, as if filled with the sun itself.
She was always by his side: in times of adversity, in moments of peace and joy. From childhood until now. And there was no one more precious to him. She gave him care and warmth without asking for anything in return. But she didn't need anything. Though sometimes rudely, Caius showed his concern, paying attention to the little things that didn't matter to him, respecting her petty feminine whims.
The dance came to an end, and Rubia, out of breath and laughing, returned to the table:
"How fun! You should try it too!"
"It's a woman's dance," Caius breathed out, as usual; Rubia often said stupid things in all seriousness.
"So what?"
"Really?" But then I wouldn't be able to watch you, the most beautiful flower in this dance," he confused her with his words and intense gaze.
"Oh, what are you saying…?" she raised her manicured hands to her flushed cheeks, her eyes downcast.
The southern sun was setting quickly. The first stars had already appeared in the sky, and the darkness on the festive grounds was driven away by the light of lit lanterns. And in this intimate atmosphere, a couple's dance was announced.
Caius stood before Rubia, extending his hand like a true gentleman.
"I know I've kept you waiting, but…" he spoke evenly and softly, "I'm finally ready to ask. Rubia, will you be my partner in this life?"
Rubia froze, her eyes wide and her mouth slightly open. She never asked, tried not to hint too much. But she always waited, cherishing the hope that her feelings would be reciprocated.
Still looking into Caius's eyes in disbelief, she extended her trembling hand. And only when she felt its warmth—real, not some illusory fantasy—did she smile, unable to hold back tears of happiness.
"Yes!"
A simple answer. A simple, yet tender, slow dance, held in each other's arms, their hearts beating in unison. The magic of the holiday took on a new meaning, becoming a special occasion for both of them…
