Chapter 1

What was she doing here? Only moments ago she was up in the trees, looking down at the meadow from her perch, then- a tumbling feeling. Oh. She had fallen into the meadow. This forest really was bad luck, the rest of her town had said so. There was still no sign of the beasts that supposedly roamed these woods.
A pulse of pain suddenly ran through her leg. Fuck! As she looked down, she saw her ankle, already swollen and clearly broken. Aya would never have come out here, had she known it would end up like this.
Pulling off her sneaker with a wince, she more closely inspected the damage. Definitely broken. Attempting to stand, she yelped and immediately collapsed back onto the grass, quickly discovering that the injury was a lot more serious than she had initially thought.
“Goddamnit, just my luck.” She mumbled, looking around for nearby sticks. Something to make a splint, maybe even a larger stick to use as a crutch?
Seeing a straight, seemingly sturdy branch nearby, she began to crawl towards it, grabbing it quickly. Sitting up, Aya carefully moved her sock, wincing at the pain that shot through her foot at the movement, and inserted the stick as a support. A makeshift splint… though it’d probably work better if she has two sticks. Crawling towards another, she grabbed this one as well, adding it to the other side of her pulsing, swollen foot with a pained grimace.
This time, when she attempted to stand, she was able- but not well, nor comfortably. Aya’s foot throbbed at even the slightest bit of weight, and she knew she wasn’t going to get anywhere on foot. She’d be better off crawling around, toddler style. It wouldn’t put weight on her foot, and she needed to move.
It was getting late. She was tired, exhausted, actually, and she definitely couldn’t sleep out here. It was getting late, and cold. Aya didn’t have any sort of heat source, no matches, no lighters. She knew damn well her best bet was to find shelter.
Crawling back towards the trees on hands and knees, she looked about for any hint of shelter. An abandoned cabin, an old tent… anything really.

Everything was dark. It was cold, and she was half conscious. Having bumped her ankle on some branch or another, Aya had passed out from pain. Vaguely, she could hear voices.
“What is it?” A gravelly voice. Hushed, like it was trying not to wake her.
“A human girl. Broken leg, by the looks of it.” Another voice groused.
“SHHH!” Another one hissed. “Look! It- She is waking up! You’ll scare her!” This voice was higher, more feminine.
Stirring, Aya peeked open one eye, blinking blearily as her vision cleared. A group of people, standing around her and looking down at her like she was some odd specimen. Three men, and two women. One of the guys looked to be about her age.
“Wh- What's going on?” Gasped out Aya, scrambling back. These people seemed… off, at least to her. Something wasn’t right, even if they looked fairly normal. It was dark and cold out, what were these people doing out in the middle of the woods? In short sleeves and shorts, no less. And her foot still hurts like a BITCH.
“Shhh…” The feminine voice from earlier soothed. “You’re okay. We aren’t gonna hurt you. We can help. That foot looks like it hurts.”
One of the males snapped his gaze towards the woman, blinking incredulously. “What?!” He hissed, only to receive a harsh elbow to the side and a glare.
Aya squirmed slightly, feeling the scrutiny of their gazes. “I… Yeah, it does hurt…. But… You guys don’t have anything… how are you gonna help?” She questioned, rubbing at the back of her neck awkwardly.
“We’d take you back to our camp- erm, Village. We'll take you there, get you cleaned up.” Interjected the last male, an older, grizzled man with a greying beard and sharp grey eyes.
Village? There was a settlement in these old woods? She’d never heard of any such thing back in town...
