FPE Impetus AU: Grading

For the next few classes, things go normally. Break time arrives. Riley and RUBY go towards the library and Lizzy and Petunia go towards the pool. As RUBY and Riley enter the library, Riley doesn't even attempt to draw. RUBY notices.   RUBY: Would you like to skip the studying today? *No response. * I can tell that you're upset. I know you don't want to talk about what happened. *Riley turns her head to face away from RUBY. * Riley: Can you just shut up? RUBY: I'm jus- Riley: I know. I don't want help. I want to be alone. Go away! *RUBY walks out of the library. * *Zip and Chip are still sailing on the pool. Lizzy and Petunia are sitting at the pool bleachers when the doors open. Lilly walks towards Lizzy. * Lilly: hello? Lizzy: w- oh, its you. Are you feeling better? Lilly: yeah. I wanted to t-thank you for rescuing me. *Lilly hands Lizzy a drawing. It's a drawing of Lizzy standing on a hill with the words, "thank you" drawn on the side of the page. It's drawn in crayons. * Bye. *Lilly walks out of the pool. * Petunia: Hey, Lizzy? Lizzy: What? Petunia: There's nothing wrong with being orphaned. I just wanted to know why you didn't tell me. Lizzy: I don't know. Whenever I brought it up, people just made fun of me for it. I know that you wouldn't, but I just didn't want you to worry. Petunia: Worry about what? Lizzy: I would've been worried that you'd be worried about me being adopted and moving away. I used to think that. Now? I don't think anyone's going to take me in. I guess I just didn't want to be embarrassed. Petunia: I'm sorry. I guess I should've been a better friend if you'd think that I'd make you embarrassed for something that isn't your fault. Lizzy: *Lizzy tears up slightly. * How do you know that it wasn't my fault? Petunia: You've always been nice. It couldn't be your fault. Speaking of, what's it like there? Lizzy: It's ok. The caretakers treat me like I'm their own kid. Better parents than my actual ones. The other kids are kind too. Petunia: See. If anything, you've probably lived a better life there than you would've with your parents. Lizzy: Are you saying that I should be glad that I'm an orphan? Petunia (Shocked): That's not what I meant. Lizzy (Lauging): I know.  *The bell rings as the students go back to class. * Zip: Hey, Chip? Chip: yes? *Zip hands Chip a candy bar. * Zip: I wanna cheer up one of the teachers. Could you have Lilly send this to Miss Circle? Make sure they don't know it's from me and make sure they don't tell Miss Circle that you're the one who asked for this. Chip: Sure. *The students return to their class. During the kindergartener's time drawing, Chip starts talking. * Chip: Lilly, could you give this to Miss Circle? Lilly: What is this? Chip: A candy bar. Lilly: Where did you get it? Chip: My parents bought it for me. *Lilly is reminded of Zip's last prank. * Lilly: I can't. I'm - *She tries to think of a response, but before she can, she's interrupted. * June: I'll send it. *June grabs the candy bar and asks Mister Compass to leave after the bell rings. * Chip: Thanks. Don't say it's from me. *She walks to Miss Circle's class. * June: hello? Miss Circle: Shouldn't you be in your class? June: I asked Mister Compass. I wanted to give you a gift. *June hands over the bar. * *Miss Circle stares at it and then back at June. She stands up. * *Eventually, the school day ends, and the students move towards the front entrance. When Riley exits, RUBY walks next to her. * Riley: I asked you to leave me alone. RUBY: I just wanted to check on you. I'll leave you alone, but I just want to know when we can talk. Riley: I, I, I'll, ... later, okay? RUBY: Alright. *It follows. * *Riley enters the rundown kitchen but notices a notice at the door. * Note: "Due for demolition in 5 months. " *Riley enters the kitchen and looks at the notice; tears falling onto the paper. * *The door is kept open. It enters. * "D*MN IT! WHY? wHy? why?  WHY WON'T YOU LOVE ME?! WHY AM I NOT GOOD ENOUGH?! " *It enters. It walks closer. * no one cares, do they? i'm alone. again. i always was.   ruby ... she cares.    but if they won't love me, th-   ???: Riley, - *Riley turns around and sees the same creature she saw at school this morning. * are you okay? Riley: I - what are you? ???: I- I'm Oliver! Remember? Riley: You're not them. ???: ... ? *Tears run down the creature's face. It looks at the ground and starts to walk away. * Riley: Wait. *The creature stops. * You don't have to leave. ???: Aren't you mad at me. I tore off your tail. Riley: You're not them. You didn't do anything. *The creature walks back to Riley and sits down. * Thank you.  ???: What do you want to do? Riley: I just don't want to be alone. Why do you think that you're Oliver/K? ???: Because I know what they know. I went on dates with ∆lice. I saw myself taking care of Claire and I saw myself cause her death.  Riley: What does Oliver think of me? ???: "Maybe that b*tch will stop trying to talk to me now that I tore off her tail. " Riley: ... ???: Why do you like me? Riley: I like them. I like them because their beautiful. They're smart. They'd be perfect. ???: Then why did they hurt you? Riley: They didn't hurt me. They were testing me so they could see how much I love them. They wanted to know how committed I am to them. Wait, what was that about Claire? ???: I- Riley: You're not Oliver/K. How about, Keith? I don't know what name to use for Katie's other name. Keith/O: Okay. I - sorry, they took care of Claire. What else? Riley: Why did they get her killed? Keith/O: ∆lice didn't like her. Riley: ... Did they feel bad about it? Getting Claire killed? Keith/O: *Keith/O looks through all the memories they have about how Oliver/K feels. Their face turns to one of distress. * I ... They don't anymore. Riley: What did ∆lice tell them? Keith/O: "She's the whole reason I got into that fight with Agetha. There's no reason for you to care about what happens to her." Riley: I would probably react in the same way if someone caused me to get beat up. ... If you believe that you're Oliver/K, then you should agree with them. You do, right? Keith/O: I don't know why I should. I don't understand why I - THEY feel how they do about you, Claire, or anyone else. ... Riley: I don't need you to confirm. I already know that they'll love me. It'd be a waste of time for you to scour your mind to find their reaction. I'm going to go to sleep. Can you stay? Keith/O: I will.  Riley: Alright. Bye. *Riley goes into the bathroom and goes into her sleeping bag. When she sees the pictures of Oliver/K, she starts tearing up. * "It was a test. It had to be a test."
