Chapter 31.5: Week 2: Monday: Watch Out
May 23, 2026 at 7:40 AM
Lilly wakes up in the corner of her room.
*She looks at her shoulder. Her skin has black spots on it. More than yesterday. She has no one who can help ... No one. *
"Maybe I could ask ... " Lilly thinks.
*...*
*She's gone. *
*Lilly exits her house. Her father doesn't even bother to say goodbye or even wake her up for school. Neither does her mom. *
*Lilly makes her way outside the house and gets on the school bus. She sits in the back ... alone. Other kindergarteners arrive on the bus as she looks out the window.
The world outside has always looked pleasant. The sun. The plants. The sky. It feels like ...
If she could ...
"If I could be somewhere that wasn't here, where would I go?" Lilly thinks. *
???: hi.
*Lilly looks away from the window. It's June. *
June: Can I sit with you?
Lilly: ... yes.
*June sits beside Lilly. *
June: Why does your arm look like that?
Lilly: ... ∆lice.
June: Why?
Lilly: I hurt my shoulder. She ... I don't know. It's not ble*ding anymore, but my whole arm hurts now.
June: ... It looks cool.
Lilly: ... wh - ... thank you.
June: Miss Sasha said for us not to talk to ∆lice. Or go to her room. How did you meet her?
Lilly: She ... I don't want to talk about it.
June: ... okay ...
Are ...
Do you want to draw?
Lilly: ... I ... I don't know.
...
*Miss Sasha always wanted her to talk with the other kids. It's what she always wanted. *
Lilly: okay.
I'll try.
*The bus arrives at the Paper School, and the kindergarteners arrive at the room that used to be Miss Sasha's class. ... Now ... a person with horns stands there. His arms are pitch black up to his elbows. *
Mister Compass: Hello. I'm Mister Compass and I'll be substituting for Miss Sasha. I'm sure you know why. Just follow the rules and everything should be fine. Lilly, can I speak with you?
*Lily walks toward Mister Compass. *
Mister Compass (Whispering): I've talked to Miss Grace. You won't get any special treatment from me. Don't make a scene.
Lilly: ... y - yes ... sir
*Lilly returns to her table. Mister Compass hands out paper and crayons for the kindergarteners to use. *
*She walks over to June's table. They don't talk. They just draw. It's ... it isn't so bad as Lilly thought *
