Shouts came from the boss's tent again. Ever since Norma and Moses had moved in together, the gang had known no peace. The restless girl always found reasons for adventure, and her talkativeness knew no bounds. Even the monsters would envy her voice, too… But the gang loved her. Like part of the family. Like a source of unquenchable positivity.
"A-a-ah, Red! You promised to buy us a house! Where!?"
"I only managed to buy you a bed! A soft one, just like you wanted! Not everything at once!"
"Bed… Bed…" Norma raged, repeating the same thing over and over, preparing to launch her "weapon". The pillow hit Moses square in the face, and he barely managed to squeak. "I asked for this a year ago! So what? Are you going to buy a house one wall at a time now?"
"And I will!" Moses caught the second pillow with surprising dexterity. "The materials aren't cheap, and we haven't robbed anyone in a long time!"
"But you weren't robbing anyone back then either! You found a stash of gold and were overjoyed like kids!"
"Hey!" Moses was almost offended, but he chose not to push the issue further. "What do you need this house for? We're hardly ever in town anyway!"
Csaba stopped by his boss's tent as usual, finishing his rounds. He chuckled. Somehow, the pair managed to fall asleep peacefully after their regular nighttime squabbles, as if they weren't chasing away sleep with wild activity, but lulling each other to sleep. Csaba would have assumed they were simply exhausting each other to the point of exhaustion, if he hadn't known how boundless their energy reserves were.
"And you're planning on raising the child in a tent too?! That's not Giet!"
"Don't mention Giet in vain! By the way, I should go and see him…"
"A-a-ah! You have nine months to get a roof over your head! No, eight!"
"Why not a year?! Or can't your nerves handle being without a house for longer? You managed without a bed for a couple of years!"
"Fool! The baby in my belly won't last much longer, and once it's born, we'll have no time for anything!"
"Eh…" Moses and Csaba blurted out simultaneously.
'So it turns out we lived in a quiet time…' Csaba thought, as a flashback of all the frantic days since the boss's chosen one had arrived in their camp flashed through their minds. They hadn't known any other since then.
"Ih-yah-ah-ah-u-u! I'm a father! I'm going to be a father!"
"Fool…" Norma sighed wearily, looking at Moses. "Since you finally understood, at least don't delay about getting a house. And we'll need more than one bed now…" she said, embarrassed, imagining Moses and the boys making a cradle.
"It'll all be over tomorrow! I'll find the best house!"
"Weren't you planning on building it?" Norma asked suspiciously, narrowing her eyes.
"I'll build it later! I'll give it to my son!"
"Or our daughter…"
"We could give it to her, too. But I'll still have a son, no matter what!" he said excitedly. Then, under Norma's gaze, he trailed off. "Will he…?"
"We'll find out in eight months."
"What, are we stopping at just one?" Moses said disappointedly. "I was counting on a big family with lots of kids."
"Well, not right away…" Norma hesitated, remembering Moses's family ambitions all too well. But she wasn't confident in her own abilities: the more children, the fewer adventures. And she couldn't live without them. "Let's do it this way: one house, one child!" she found a solution, knowing how slowly Moses moved.
"Excellent! I'll build up the entire Legacy! And the mainland, too, if need be!"
'This isn't how I thought our gang would grow…' Csaba shuddered, imagining a horde of miniature copies of Norma and the boss. 'Do we even have enough nannies?'
Csaba frantically began counting the people in his head. After all, the boss always kept his word, even if he was a little slow at times. Then he exhaled and waved his hand: they'll manage somehow. They always managed. The main thing is it won't get any worse. It'll only be more fun! And noisier…
'Maybe I should learn carpentry? The boss isn't the only one who'll have kids… Though, I'm afraid we'll have to build an entire city. For our big… growing family.'
