APPENDIX IV: PROTOCOL “CELESTIAL BALLET”
February 16, 2026 at 4:50 PM
A document systematizing the astronomical and navigational principles of the Octa universe. Compiled by Architect Kai.
SECTION 1: GENERAL PROVISIONS
1.1. The Sole Luminary: Solus. The central and only source of light and heat in the system is the star Solus. Its radiation in the blue-violet spectrum defines the basic conditions for photosynthesis and the color scheme of Octa’s biomes.
1.2. The Starless Void. The sky of Octa is devoid of distant star systems. The night firmament is a velvet-black background where the only objects are the eight Moon-Sisters.
1.3. Eight Sisters: The Lunar Ensemble. Eight satellites (Moon-Sisters) revolve around the Layer-Continent system. They are key elements of the world’s astronomy, chronometry, and even energetics, constantly influencing the Weave.
SECTION 2: MECHANICS OF THE CELESTIAL BALLET
2.1. Principle of Unique Orbits. The eight moons do not move along a single trajectory. Each possesses unique, rigorously calculated orbital parameters:
Orbital Period: From fast moons completing a full revolution in a few days, to slow ones whose cycle takes weeks.
Orbital Inclination: Their paths lie at different angles relative to the world’s ecliptic.
Eccentricity: Orbits vary from nearly perfect circles to elongated ellipses, leading to changes in the visible size and brightness of the moon.
SUMMARY: Thanks to this, on any given night in Octa’s sky, multiple moons can be observed simultaneously in different phases and at different points in the firmament. The night sky is not static; it is a constantly changing pattern—a complex and predictable “ballet.”
2.2. Principle of Monthly Dominance. The concept of a “month belonging to one of the moons” does not mean only that moon is visible. Dominance is the period when a specific moon’s influence reaches its peak. This is determined by a combination of three factors:
Apogee of Phase: The moon reaches its full moon state, reflecting maximum light from Solus.
Perigee of Orbit: The moon approaches the minimum distance to the Layer-Continents, becoming visually the largest object in the night sky.
Resonant Peak: Its gravitational and energetic “echo” enters maximum resonance with the Weave, exerting the strongest influence on physical and metaphysical processes in Octa.
2.3. The Grand Conjunction. The apogee of the celestial ballet is the “Grand Conjunction”—an exceedingly rare configuration occurring once every 64 years (one Octave), when all eight moons align in a specific, harmonious pattern. This event marks the end of one great cycle and the beginning of the next.
SECTION 3: APPLIED SIGNIFICANCE
3.1. Lunar Navigation.
PROBLEM: In a world without a North Star or familiar constellations, navigation in open space (especially in the boundless oceans of the Archipelago or the Void between Sectors) requires a fundamentally different approach.
SOLUTION: Navigation in Octa is the complex art of reading the celestial ballet. Mariners and pilots of Aether Wanderers, known as “Moonfarers,” determine their location and course not by static points, but by a dynamic picture:
Triangulation: The vessel’s position is determined by calculating the angles between three or more visible moons.
Phase Analysis: The moon’s phase and visible size allow determining its position in orbit, which is a key parameter for long-term route planning.
Chronometry: Exact knowledge of time (down to the hour) is critical, as the celestial picture changes constantly.
STATUS: The art of lunar navigation is secret knowledge, jealously guarded by guilds of mariners and navigators. The loss or breakage of an octolabe and lunar maps in the open sea is unacceptable.
3.2. Chronometry and Calendar. The entire calendar and chronology system (see Protocol “Octa”, Section 6) is based on the observable cycles of the eight moons, making it intuitively understandable and natural for all inhabitants of the world.
3.3. Energetic Influence. Different moons affect the Weave differently. Shamans, alchemists, and even artisans check their activities against the lunar calendar to use favorable energy flows for their needs (for example, forging weapons under the Crimson Moon or performing illusion rituals under the light of the Ashen Moon).
