Summer

Spring left us like a ghost upon the stair,
A fleeting breath of lilac, gone too soon;
It seemed a week of blossoms in the hair
Before the heat usurped the afternoon.
The tulips bowed their heads to meet the dust,
The cherry petals scattered in the gale,
As emerald green replaced the silver rust
And told the springtime’s short and sudden tale. Now summer arrives with heat,
Kids are jumping in pools, a welcome treat.
The sun shines bright, a golden ball,
As laughter rings out, answering summer's call.
The sun glints on the surface, a blinding gleam,
While laughter echoes, loud and clear and high,
A vibrant, splashing, sun-drenched, summer dream,
Beneath the vast expanse of azure sky.
The scent of sunscreen mingles with the breeze,
A warm and humid fragrance, sweet and light,
Carried on whispers rustling through the trees,
A soothing sound that calms the afternoon's bright might.Small, colorful buckets rest beside the edge,
Ready for sandcastles that will never stand,
Their tiny builders stand upon the ledge,
Imagining castles built on solid land.
The concrete warm beneath bare, sun-kissed feet,
A gentle heat that radiates around,
Where happy sounds and summer smells all meet,
A joyful, carefree, sun-soaked, splashing sound.
