A comfortable sofa was positioned by the window so Keele could enjoy reading in the sunlight. And now he was engaged in his favorite pastime, studying the literature of a once alien world. He could now manage without a dictionary and didn't make the stupid mistakes that made Meredy laugh. The longer Keele lived among the "aliens", the more he realized that his decision to stay on Celestia had been more than right. His intellect could finally find outlet in science, which was not favored in Inferia. Here he learned so many new things, received a huge dose of inspiration and was ready to create new creations, combining technology and magic.
A book was incredibly interesting and informative, but Keele was distracted by the sound of cheerful singing. Meredy danced among the flowers, basking in the sun's rays with them. Her image always warmed his heart, evoking fragile yet pleasant, priceless feelings. Keele had once considered her behavior stupid. Now he himself felt despondent when Meredy behaved quietly. After all, it meant something bad had happened, and sad thoughts washed over him.
'Sing. Dance. Be close to me,' Keele begged sincerely in his heart.
'Look at me! Smile at me! I'll be your sun!' Meredy's heart echoed.
Feeling eyes on her, Meredy beamed, waving quickly at Keele. However, she wasn't just having fun. Recharged with energy from the early morning, she was getting ready to begin work in the garden. The garden was meant to be a feast for the eyes during the short summer months. The cold weather was expected to arrive soon, so Meredy slowly began harvesting. Keele tried to help more than once, but he found it easier with paperwork and machinery, so at some point he simply gave up: he had his own work, his own ways of caring.
Having found the answer to his question in the book, trying not to read any further, Keele quickly sketched out a diagram of his next invention, but before he could write down all the details, a child’s cry was heard.
The little treasure in the cradle woke up. The two-month-old baby, she took after her father in looks, and only inherited her mother's eye color and love of music: singing soothed her more than anything else. The daughter was hungry, so he had to carry her to her mother. Holding this tiny creature in his arms and looking at his happy wife, Keele never doubted for a moment that staying on Celestia was the right decision. Although he might never see his friends again because of the planets that were gradually moving away, the best things in life — his family and his work — were here. Neither the cold nor the past could change his mind, because here, in the present until the boundless future, the warmest, most radiant sun warmed him, and a second one was growing, and a third was in the plans.
