The shadows surged like a living tide.
Flora braced herself as the first wave of shadow‑creatures lunged. They moved like smoke given claws, their forms shifting with every step. She unleashed a burst of fire — but the flames passed through them harmlessly.
Aestus cursed under his breath. “They’re not physical!”
The Harbinger’s voice echoed across the plaza.
“Purpose cannot be proven with violence.”
Flora clenched her fists. “Then what do you want from us?”
The shadows circled, tightening the ring around them.
Aestus’s eyes widened. “Flora… they’re reacting to your emotions.”
She froze.
The shadows closest to her flickered — growing larger when her fear spiked, shrinking when she steadied her breath.
Aestus grabbed her hand. “You have to control your purpose. Not your fire.You.”
Flora inhaled slowly.
The shadows paused.

“I’m not here to destroy. I’m not here to burn. I’m here to stop Malum — not because I want revenge, but because he will keep hurting people if I don’t.”
The shadows rippled.
“I want to protect,” Flora continued. “Not punish.”
The shadows shrank further.
“I choose purpose over anger.”
The last shadow dissolved into dust.
The Harbinger stepped forward, its form stabilizing into a tall, humanoid silhouette.
“You have passed.”
A doorway of swirling darkness opened behind it.
“Enter Oblivion.”
Flora exchanged a glance with Aestus.
Then they stepped through.
