Oceanus did not sleep. For three days and nights, Flora and Aestus worked alongside the townsfolk, transforming the peaceful coastal haven into a fortress bristling with defenses. The air smelled of sweat, salt, and molten stone. Every clang of a hammer echoed with urgency. They dug moats deep into the earth, filling them with molten lava conjured through Flora’s unstable flames and contained by Aestus’s water‑woven barriers. The heat shimmered across the ground, warping the air like a mirage. Titanium walls rose next — towering, silver‑gray, reinforced with golden spikes hammered into place by trembling hands. The metal gleamed under the sun, a stark contrast to the tranquil sea behind them. But the greatest defense of all slept in the heart of the stronghold. A dragon. Massive. Crimson‑scaled. Its body was covered in jagged spikes, each one the size of a spear. It lay coiled in a cavern carved beneath the cliffs, its breath rumbling like distant thunder. Flora could feel its presence even from afar — ancient, powerful, and fiercely protective. Aestus had found it first. “It’s bonded to you,” he’d said, eyes wide with awe. “It recognizes your fire.” Flora didn’t know how to feel about that. She barely understood her own flames — now she was responsible for a creature capable of leveling cities. But she didn’t have time to dwell on it. Because on the morning of the fourth day, the sky darkened. Aestus stood atop the wall, eyes narrowed. “They’re here.” Flora joined him, her stomach twisting. Beyond the clearing, a vast army gathered — giants with skin like cracked stone, mercenaries clad in scorched armor, and Flamebringers whose bodies flickered with fire.
