Chapter 4: The Eerie Secret

Settings
Flora froze. The old man’s eyes — once warm, gentle, and full of quiet wisdom — now glowed a deep, unnatural crimson. The color pulsed faintly, like embers breathing in the dark. He rose slowly from the floor, movements stiff and wrong, as though his limbs were being guided by invisible strings. “Sir…?” Flora whispered. He didn’t answer. He stepped toward her, each footfall deliberate, heavy, echoing through the small cottage. Flora backed away instinctively, her hand brushing against the arm of the couch for balance. Her pulse thundered in her ears. “What’s happening to you?” she cried, voice cracking. When he spoke, the voice that came out was not his. It was layered — a deep, resonant tone beneath his own, like two voices speaking through one mouth. “He is now under our control,” the voice said. “And he will never escape.” Flora’s breath hitched. “Who are you?” The old man — or whatever was controlling him — didn’t answer. Instead, he reached into a leather pouch at his side and withdrew a small vial filled with a dark red liquid. The glass glinted ominously in the firelight. “No—” Flora tried to scramble away, but her legs were still weak, her body sluggish from the tea. He grabbed her by the scruff of her tunic with a strength no elderly man should possess. His grip was iron. She struggled, kicking, clawing, but it was useless. The vial’s cork popped. A bitter, metallic scent filled the air. “Drink,” the voice commanded. Flora clenched her jaw, shaking her head violently. “No! Let me go!” But he forced the vial to her lips. The liquid burned like molten metal as it slid down her throat. She gagged, choking, trying to spit it out — but the substance clung to her tongue, thick and suffocating. Her vision blurred. Her limbs went numb. The room tilted sideways. The last thing she saw was the old man’s crimson eyes staring down at her, unblinking, as her own eyes rolled back and darkness swallowed her whole.
