Panic coursed through me. I raced downstairs, calling out.
Silence.
I dialed the station and got passed around until someone knowledgeable answered.
“I just got back from vacation,” he said, “but yes, there’s talk about a team being sent to Kodiak.”
“I don’t understand why I haven’t heard from her.”
“Reception can be lousy.”
“True… but I thought technology was better by now.”
“Not everywhere. I’m sure she’ll check in.”
He told me to call again tomorrow if I didn’t hear from her.
I thanked him and hung up.
I made breakfast, planning my day. I wanted to get out of the house as soon as possible.
As I reached the stairs, I heard the garage door open.
Please be Carol,I prayed again.
I opened the door to the garage.
It was Brynn.
