Phase 2: Silence. Chapter 4

Luca’s estate was located on the outskirts of Naples, hidden among cypress trees and old stone walls. It served as the perfect place for negotiations — neutral ground where no one felt like the host, but neither did anyone feel like a guest.
A tense silence filled the main hall. People from both sides sat facing each other, as if weighing who would make the first careless move. Sofia and Javier stood side by side in the center of the room — two leaders about to change the history of their clans.
“Shall we begin?” — Luca’s voice broke the silence.
Sofia nodded and began to speak:
“We all know why we’re here. Enemies for decades, today we have a chance to become allies. I understand that many of you doubt this idea. But I also know that our rivalry only weakens both sides. It’s time for change.”
An irritated snort came from the Dark Wing’s side, but Javier’s sharp gaze made everyone fall silent.
“Sofia is right,” he said firmly. “We’ve lost too many people in these pointless wars. But now we have a chance to become stronger together. And if anyone still doubts this, speak now.”
A short silence followed. Then one of the Dark Wing veterans, Daniel Bloom, rose to his feet. His voice was cold and hard as steel:
“How are we supposed to trust you, Reyland? I’ve fought against your clan for most of my life. Your Order spilled our blood just as we spilled yours. And now you want us to forget all that just because it suits you?”
His gaze was heavy, almost contemptuous. A few men from the Dark Wing nodded in agreement.
Sofia kept her expression calm, but her eyes flashed with icy determination. She was about to answer, but Javier stood up first, his voice calm yet edged with authority:
“Enough.”
Daniel turned toward him, raising an eyebrow skeptically.
“Oh, so you think old blood can be washed away with a single signature?”
Javier crossed his arms over his chest. His voice remained steady but carried a hidden threat.
“I think Sofia is right. If we don’t stop clinging to the past, it’ll consume us. We’re not talking about forgetting — we’re talking about surviving. And I won’t let anyone here speak to her as if she hasn’t earned her place in this alliance.”
Bloom’s jaw tightened. His hand gripped the edge of the table, but he said nothing. The room fell silent once again.
Sofia tilted her head slightly, watching Javier. In her eyes appeared something between surprise and gratitude. In that moment, she realized — he truly stood by her, not just in words.
Javier glanced back at her and gave a faint smile.
“All right then. Let’s make it official.”
Luca placed the contract before them — several pages detailing the terms of the alliance. Sofia took the pen first and signed her name in a graceful hand. Javier followed, hesitating for a brief moment before adding his signature.
The room was thick with anticipation.
“Well then,” said Luca. “Congratulations. We’re one now.”
Silence filled the hall once more — but this time, it wasn’t a hostile one. It was the silence of a new beginning.
---
After the signing of the agreement between the Order of Lightning and the Dark Wing, the atmosphere remained tense, though filled with cautious hope. Members of both clans began discussing the future — how they would cooperate now that the deal was sealed. Sofia and Javier stayed close, joined by Luca, Maximilian, Jan, and Federico, who wanted to talk openly about the next steps.
Luca studied the document, then looked up at Sofia and Javier.
“We’ve signed the agreement, but this is only the beginning. There’s still tension between our groups. People haven’t forgotten the old grudges. How do you plan to bridge that gap?”
Maximilian added,
“You’ve promised change, but it won’t be easy. People need to believe this isn’t just words on paper. We have to show them that cooperation brings results. Everyone has fears and doubts. So the first thing we need is clear communication.”
Sofia nodded.
“Yes, I understand that. We’ve already spoken with our people. The first steps will be small but important — joint meetings, shared projects, ways to build trust. Everyone needs to see progress.”
Javier continued,
“We’ll also need a clear structure. We’re considering joint operations to show both sides the benefits. What if we start with shared control over certain territories? That would prevent conflicts and demonstrate real advantages.”
Jan, standing near Federico, smiled slightly. He was skeptical but chose to stay silent.
“You’re trying to bring everyone under one roof,” he said finally, “but that won’t be easy. We can’t just promise peace without a solid strategy. Still, if this works — we could be unstoppable.”
Federico, an old veteran, agreed.
“The real test begins when we start working together. Talking about unity is one thing; managing it is another. Old grudges don’t fade overnight.”
Sofia glanced at Javier, knowing they’d need to make difficult choices.
“You’re right,” she said calmly. “It won’t be easy, but if we stay firm, we’ll succeed. We’ll organize regular councils to coordinate actions, and if problems arise — we’ll solve them immediately.”
Javier nodded.
“But we also have to give people time to adapt. They need to feel this is a partnership, not a forced truce.”
Maximilian spoke again,
“I agree, but time isn’t always on our side. Tensions will rise from time to time. We must act fast and decisively — and have a backup plan if things go wrong.”
Sofia exhaled, feeling the weight of leadership but confident in their path.
“We’re ready. The road will be hard, but we’ll walk it together — not just for ourselves, but for our people. If we stand united, we’ll make it.”
A thoughtful silence filled the room. Despite their doubts, everyone sensed that this alliance could change not only their future but the fate of their entire world.
---
While Luca, Jan, Federico, and Maximilian continued discussing future cooperation, Javier turned to Sofia. He gave her a small smile and said quietly:
“Let’s take a walk. We need to talk about a few things.”
Sofia nodded. They left the estate. The night was warm, the air filled with the scent of the sea and jasmine from nearby gardens. They walked slowly, side by side, as if no enmity had ever existed between them.
The pavement was uneven, and as Sofia was lost in thought, she stepped on a loose stone and stumbled. Before she could fall, Javier caught her by the elbow, holding her firmly.
“Careful,” he said softly but firmly.
Sofia looked up, meeting his gaze. He was still holding her, reluctant to let go.
“Thank you…” she said, a little flustered, then added with a faint smile, “But you can let go now.”
Javier blinked as if realizing he was still holding her arm. He quickly — though a bit reluctantly — released her.
“Sorry,” he said shortly, sounding almost surprised by his own reaction.
Sofia smiled gently, taking a step back.
“It’s fine. We still have a lot to discuss,” she said, her tone slightly softer than usual.
Javier nodded, continuing beside her — though he could still feel the warmth of her skin on his fingers.
They walked through the narrow streets in tense silence before Javier finally spoke:
“We can’t avoid this question any longer — who will lead the united clan? It’s an important matter for our people.”
Sofia paused for a moment, knowing this would be difficult.
“It is,” she agreed. “But we can’t just place one person above everyone else. That would tie us to the old ways. I think we need balance — a structure where both sides share authority.”
“You’re suggesting a council-style leadership?” Javier asked, intrigued.
Sofia nodded.
“Yes. You and I, along with a few key figures from both sides. We could form a council to make major decisions together. That way, no one feels overpowered.”
Javier thought for a moment.
“That makes sense. But we’ll need to define who decides on crucial matters — missions, conflicts, responsibilities. If everyone has an equal voice, things might get stuck.”
Sofia smiled faintly.
“I agree. But we can find a compromise. We’ll coordinate big-picture strategies together, and handle details collectively. You and I can act as first among equals.”
Javier nodded slowly.
“I can live with that. But for it to work, both clans need strong internal order. Everyone must be on the same side.”
“Exactly,” Sofia said. “And they have to see this as real — not just another truce. This alliance must mean something.”
Javier looked at her thoughtfully.
“You’re right. Now we just need to make sure it works — not just on paper, but in reality.”
Sofia smiled softly.
“Then let’s make it happen.”
They continued down the quiet street, both lost in thought — two leaders united by purpose, ready to face whatever came next.
