Description:

“Hey, Jackson,” called Officer Jones from down the hallway of the new Star Jail in Phoenix. “Yeah?” “I hear you’re leaving soon.” “Yeah, just a little over a month to go. Barajas will be replacing me,” Jackson replied as she unlocked a door in the middle of the hallway. “Oh, so it’s not an April Fool’s joke?” “Nope. That’s right, though, it’s already April 1st, huh?” “Yeah, time flies when you’re having fun,” Jones said, rolling her eyes. “You got any room in there?” “One bed, but that might turn into two. The lady I’ve got might be bonded out tonight. Why? We got someone new coming in?” “Looks that way. Anyone else got beds available?” “I’m pretty sure Hann and Brea do. Maybe even Nottelmann.” Just then, Jones’s walkie-talkie squawked a message, to which she quickly responded. “Gotta go. The new people are here. I think only one’s headed this way, though.” “Okay,” said Jackson, who began chatting with another DO who had recently begun her shift as well.
