Chapter 1

A luminescence lay over the room, the mortal completely unaware of her presence. She wasn’t allowed to interact with mortals directly most of the time; they needed to come to places like Mount Prism or interact with her Voice—her own daughter—in order to commune with her. However, she was not communing with the mortal this night. There was no rule she couldn’t watch over from a close proximity at night. She hated that she could not interact with her own children, but it was simply the rules she must follow. She could not break those rules, lest she be cast out and not able to provide them with anything at all. That would be a most egregious case. She couldn’t and didn’t want to be completely separated from her children to the point even her Voice couldn’t reach them. The rules had been put into place eons ago, though they continued to frustrate her to no end. She couldn’t even interact with the Exalt line, the bloodline she herself had chosen to watch over and give favor to. She sat in the chair near his bed, watching him as she did so. “Chrom, I’m sorry it’s taking so long… I didn’t expect Grima’s taint to run so deeply in Robin’s veins. It must be purged from her before she can return to you. She will return; I promise. But it may just not be in this lifetime… When the time is right, I promise I will allow both of you to meet again. Though it will be solely up to you two to decide if you want to rekindle your life and be together again.” How long this process would take, she had no idea. Grima’s taint ran so deep in Robin’s soul. Yes, her strong bonds with the Shepherds had almost brought her back, but as long as Grima’s taint remained, the possibility of the Fell Dragon rising again would also remain. She would reunite them. She hadn’t lied; it would just take longer than she anticipated. Possibly much longer. Of course, mortal lives were far shorter than her own and those of other Manakete. They would likely never be reunited in this lifetime, but when Robin was ready…she would allow it. They truly had loved each other deeply and Naga did not want them to be separated forever. Yes, there was the afterlife, but it wouldn’t be as fulfilling as this life. She would allow them their time, once the right one came. The luminescence faded out and Naga faded from the world as well. Chrom would never know of her promise, but it was one she intended to keep.
