Rocking Chair

Cries echoed in the house and Weiss sighed as she got up. It was the warm seasons, so Blake was out on her digs over in Mistral and Atlas. Weiss knew what it would entail when Blake had finally talked her into having children, though Coco had carried for them. Aleka was three now and their second was on the way. However, Aleka struggled with Blake when she was gone. It was always a whirlwind when Blake came back from her digs and had to be reintroduced to Aleka. She hoped it wouldn’t scar the girls, having one of their mothers gone for half the year. One day, Weiss would have to be gone as well. Oscar lived on the property with them, so it wasn’t like they would betrulyalone, but still… Weisswasvice president of the SDC and only so much could be done with timezone differences and virtual meetings. But, right now, that wasn’t her prime concern. She went to Aleka’s room and knocked on the door. “Aleka dear?” she asked quietly. “Materrrrr…” came the whine through the door. Weiss opened the door and flicked the light on. The nightlight twinkled in the corner, but the room was dark otherwise. “What’s wrong, sweetie?” She went over to Aleka and picked her up. Aleka’s cat ears twitched and her blue eyes focused on Weiss, tears glittering in them. She brushed a hand through Aleka’s white hair. “Bad dreams,” she sniffled. Weiss sat down in the rocking chair and started rocking. “Oh honey, it’s okay. They’re just dreams. They can’t hurt you. They’re scary, but they can’t actually hurt you.” She patted Aleka’s back and started to sing softly. Honestly, she still hated music to this point, but lullabies went a long way in helping calm her down. She sung the familiar lyrics to a Menagerine lullaby that Kali had taught her while they’d been there, though translated into Valian. wandering child of the earth, do you know just how much you’re worth…?
