Chapter 1

The wind was what woke Blake up even earlier than normal. It was still winter so snowstorms weren’t too uncommon in Vale, but she hadn’t expected to wake up to blizzard conditions. The cold seeped through even the thick walls of the apartment above the café. She could only imagine how Weiss would feel with her lack of body fat and everything else. Honestly, it would probably be a good idea not to open today. She wouldn’t get any business on the Vale side of things and she didn’t want to sit and waste power for two hours while she waited for nonexistent customers. She tried to roll over and go back to sleep, but the howling wind pierced her ears. She sighed and flicked the light on, then got changed into some sweats, thick socks, and a knee-length hoodie. She would have to bump the heat up today since Weiss would no doubt not handle the cold very well. She hadn’t been planning on bumping it, but she would need to for Weiss’ sake. At least Celica would be able to handle it better. Addy, Edelgard, and Hubert would just have to decide it for themselves. She went out into the kitchen where she sat at the table. It was the most inward point from the outside, so that meant it was warmer. She frowned when she saw Weiss there already. “Couldn’t sleep either?” Blake asked, her ears twitching. Weiss shook her head and rubbed her arms. “Too cold.” The hollows of her cheeks and eyes betrayed just how thin she was due to the torture that she had been through. “This is warmer.” “Couldn’t you have cuddled up to Inferro?” The Arcanine burned througha lotof energy due to being a Fire type. She still didn’t know much about Pokémon, but Althea the Gardevoir and Inferro the Arcanine had been ahugeboon to Weiss due to lacking body strength, stability, and stamina. “I…didn’t think about that.” Weiss frowned. “It’s fine, Weiss. Want some tea?” It might help chase away Blake’s own cold. Weiss gave a small nod and Blake got up. She looked through her own personal cabinet and found a lovely black tea with lavender and set the kettle on. She brewed it, then took one mug over to Weiss. “Here. Hopefully it’ll help you warm up.” She smiled at Weiss, ears twitching slightly. “I don’t think we’re going to open today.” “But won’t that lose you money? And…what about paying everyone? Will you not pay them for a day of work?” “I’ll figure it out sometime today, Weiss. For now, just enjoy your tea and try to ignore the wind.” Blake took a sip from her mug and smiled. Yeah. Hot tea in a winter storm was nice.
