Chapter 1

Settings
Blake shivered as she walked into the house, Sabina perched on her glove. She absolutelydespisedthe winter. She had lived in Vale a good chunk of her life now, almost as long as she had Menagerie, but nothing would shake how Menagerie had shaped her. She missed the tropical warmth and humidity that she had grown up in. She had chosen to stay in Vale when her parents had left the White Fang to go back home. She missed them dearly, but Sienna kept her company. She hated how she was always the one that had to take Sabina out hunting, though. It was awful. Star of Hopeknewthat she despised the winter, but no, the rescue relied onherto be the one to take the unruly goshawk out hunting when her aggression started getting too intense. Sabina would scream and scream and scream until she got her way and was able to be taken out hunting. They wereso luckythat Blake knew somebody with appropriate terrain for hunting goshawks and was willing to put her up for the weekends. The forecast hadn’t foretold of the intense snows that currently wracked the forest, though. Shehatedthe cold. She had been forced back inside early rather than staying out all day like Sabina would want. She knew the gos needed to hunt, but there wasn’t much she could do about it. It was practically whiteout conditions right now. Being out in such intense conditions coulddefinitelylead to her own death if she got lost. Shecould notrisk her life for a stupid bird. She did care about Sabina, but not enough to lose either her life or the bird. The telemetry was malfunctioning in the extreme cold and the snow interfered as well. With a sigh, she sat Sabina down on her perch and tied her off with the falconer’s knot. She was soaked through from the intense snow and went to the dresser, grabbing a new outfit. Nope, she was not staying in these cold, wet clothes. Best to warm up with a shower. She wasn’t going to risk frostbite.
