Chapter 1

Settings
Blake laid against Weiss’ chest, darkness falling around them. Blake’s breaths came short and shallow at this point. At this point, the nightmares usually didn’t bother her too much, maybe a couple times a month. She had largely healed from what Adam had done to her but…nothing would ever completely stop it. Not until she got some serious support in the afterlife from Melanthios and the passed-on mages. Soul healing from her mother and therapy in general had helped her a lot, but the nightmares still plagued her from time to time. She kept her head against Weiss’ chest, her heartbeat thrumming. She felt bad whenever she had bad nights like this. She knew just how much anxiety it caused Weiss and how much of a toll it took on her as they got older. She had to take care of the girls and get up bright and early to help Oscar with the birds. The girls would have to study on their own the following morning while Weiss took some extra time to sleep. Weiss kissed her head. “Blake… You’re feeling guilty again, aren’t you.” It wasn’t even a question at this point. She nodded and sighed, her ears going back. “Yes.” “The girls are old enough to study on their own for a few hours. Oscar will take care of breakfast for them. It’s fine.” Weiss spoke barely above a whisper as being so close to her chest would’ve set off Blake’s sensitive Faunus hearing. It didn’t stop her from feeling bad, though… She wished Weiss could take away all the pain and sorrow Adam had put her through, but that wouldn’t happen. She knew Adam was dead and being punished for the rest of eternity at this point. She and Weiss had seen to that in Atlas. There was no chance of him coming back. Even so…his ghost still haunted her. Nights like this where he still had power over her… She hated it. “Just listen to my heartbeat,” Weiss whispered. Blake closed her eyes and nodded, her ear rested against Weiss’ heart. The steady thrumming set a pace that Blake breathed to, trying to banish the cobwebs of the past from her mind.
