Chapter 1

Weiss sighed heavily as she looked around. The girls were having a bittoomuch fun with their nighttime camping trips out into the woods. Being half Faunus, they were able to see in the darkness where Weiss couldn’t. They were at the age where they were really starting to become independent and wanting to pull away from their mothers. She loved them, but this age was difficult. Kali had warned her justhowdifficult it would be, but nothing had prepared her for the reality of it. Even the parenting books hadn’t prepared her for it, and she’d reada lotof those. Nothing prepared one for the realities of parenthood until it happened to them. “Girls, come on, please! We need to get you to bed!” She understood why they were rebelling, but it didn’t make it any easier. Weiss knew her own life hadn’t been normal. She’d been isolated and abused just like most Atlassian upper-class girls had been back then and continued to be now. She really was just trying to raise her girls nothing like she’d been raised. They had restrictions, of course; she and Blake weren’t going to let them run wild. But they werereallytesting those boundaries and restrictions now. She heard giggles and saw a flash of reflective eyes in the campfire. Weiss let out a haggard sigh. This was a mess. If the tween years were this bad, how much worse would the teen years be? She wasn’t looking forward to them being more rebellious and more independent. They did have to grow and she didn’t want to stop them from growing into their own people… It was hard to balance their needs and her own. She saw another flash of eyes in the campfire and went into the tent, retrieving the flashlight. “All right, if you’re not gonna listen, I’m gonna have to come find you.” She hated dealing with things in the dark… Her daughtersverymuch had the advantage. They could see where she couldn’t. At least Weiss had aura sight as well… Without it, she would have been completely at their mercy.
